Une bonne adresse avec quelques petits défauts
Nous avons passé une nuit au 1849 Backpackers Hotel dans une chambre double avec salle de bain partagée. L'accueil a été très bon et très sympathique avec le staff nous donnant absolument toutes les informations nécessaires pour visiter Albany et tous ses environs. La chambre était assez grande et confortable et la parties communes grandes et agréables avec en particulier beaucoup de place dans les frigos partagés. Le petit déjeuner inclus avec pancakes (en fait il s'agit de crêpes!) à volonté est top et très bon. En points négatifs, beaucoup de bruit jusqu'à plus de 23h, notamment des gens courant dans les couloirs. Et comme une soirée avait lieu dans le bâtiment en dessous de l'hostel, des échos de basse arrivaient jusque dans les chambres jusqu'à plus de minuit, heure à laquelle nous nous sommes couchés. Rien d'insurmontable avec des boules quies cependant. Autre point négatif, le ménage pas fait sur le sol de la chambre (mais le lit et ses draps étaient propres) et le wifi ne fonctionnait pas très bien.

Don’t come. Staying in your car overnight is even a better decision!! The worst hostel I’ve ever been. Drugs and addicts wandering. Dirty floor and dirty bed, dried blood and plenty of dust on the bed. Not expecting a perfectly clean room as it’s a hostel, but it’s still way too terrible. Not mentioning its price is not cheap. Also it was super noisy. People were singing and shouting at night so loudly that nobody could sleep. We literally walked out and stayed in our car at the end.

I enjoy this place, it was built in 1849 as the name of the place. The room is simple, with 1 window, 1 fan, 1 table lamp, no TV. However, there is a common area with Books, TV, Table Tennis, Board Games, etc There is also a common kitchen with all the pot and pans. The best of all, free Pancakes for breakfast. Location wise, this place is walking distance to town centre, very convenient. I deduct 1 star is because the place is a little old, and need some repair on certain areas, like some shower cubicle door is broken, gents urinal flush is leaking, kettle needs replacing. If you can get pass those minor defect, this place is fantastic

This place are in the centre of the town. Walks easily everywhere. Rooms only and shared toilets and baths, however, it is perfect just for a couple who loves travelling and exploring places, not looking for a decent room. Good for a group of friends. Totally recommended to all explorers and backpackers.

Big hostel with good communal spaces, well equipped if disorganised kitchen. Free pancakes in the morning were delicious. Bed was very squeaky.

Thank you for your feedback Alan. We're sorry to hear it wasn't to your standard. Everything gets cleaned twice a day every day, however its hard to keep it 100% clean when we occupy 50 plus people daily. We are a backpackers that mainly serve the likes of 18 to 35 year old's who do socialise, so there is a bit of noise around however we have a 'quiet after 10pm rule' that we in force every night. There are plenty of 3/4 star hotels in the area, perhaps one of those would best suit the next time you stay in Albany. Regards.

The room in the photo was nothing like the one we got. Ours was just a bed with very dark sheets and a filthy carpet. We were so disappointed that we payed to stay somewhere else even though we had payed for this room.

Full of free loaders and people with no respect
The two people running the place, Abraham and his Irish lady colleague are very helpful, polite and trying to do a good job. But they are understaffed and under resourced, and have to deal with a lot of people who have NO respect for others in the building. Blocked up toilets, not flushing them after 2's! People literally stealing the teabag out of your cup while you are washing up in the next room. People rummaging through the pantry in other peoples supplies, and THEN when they see you have a jar of coffee, having the cheek to ask for your jar, AND your own spoon.... Who stays at a place like this on a long term basis and doesn't provide their own tea, coffee, utensil??...SO many of them do NOT wash up the common room, even leaving their food in pots, pans, bowls, and leave it to the over worked staff to deal with... It is truly disgusting and pathetic. One "long term" resident even walked in front of two of us watching TV, and just changed the channel without even asking or saying anything, because, you know, he is entitled to, because he is 'long term'. SO many people doing self centered things with no thought for others sharing the common facilities and space. Will Never stay there again and do not recommend anyone doing it either, worst and dirtiest "back packer" experience of my time... This isn't a reflection on the staff, they try, do great pancakes, but are hamstrung by so many people who don't give a rats about anybody but themselves. Not all obviously, but a lot!

1849 is a very bussy backpacker hostel! The rooms are of reasanoble size and the staff is very helpfull and friendly. I recomend it to all backpackers and to those who want to stay in Albany (Western Australia) at low but convenient price. There is one free pan-cake in the morning between 8:30-10;30 ($2 each for susequent ones). Dr. Raul Raiter

One thing to note is that it is quite run down and old, which has a bit of an appeal. However, we got locked inside our room as the door lock was broken and were told to just leave it unlocked, so just be aware and double check!

There are many original and period features which makes this a heritage listed building which can mean sometimes repairs require specialist craftsmen and certain issues cannot be addressed instantly for this we are grateful for your understanding! Absolutely unpleasant environment to stay especially with family. Passage smell stinky. Couldnt stay in this property. Had to find other room with xtra cost on our own expense

Thank-you for your review!We cannot control what people choose to eat and cook and as a result that is what you would of experienced,furthermore the guest threatened staff members & emailed the establishment again threatening with legal action.We hold all the appropriate certifications and licenses and have been always regularly inspected.Even after all this we still offered a free stay as a good will gesture and a partial refund is in progress.Would most defiantly avoid bookings from this individual.Best wishesTeam 1849!

They hold a $10 for key but they don't pretend to give it back as nobody answer the phone in early morning. Bedroom smells bad, full of stuffs of other occupants and you don't have space for anything in the room, even walk. People smoking everywhere. Don't recommend at all.

The staff were lovely, room was decent and the resident animals were adorable. Bathrooms were very clean but kitchen was filthy, and we had an extremely loud family who seemed to think it was OK to take over the entire bathroom for most of our stay and their screaming children could be heard at the other end of the hostel with nothing done about it. Otherwise it was a quiet and pleasant place however I didn't appreciate the fact that I was charged double upon check in (when I booked, and again when I checked in) so even though I told them I had paid on booking they denied it, and I had to check my records and have it corrected.

Disappointed with facilities - toilet paper ran out in 2 of the 3 female toilets. Wooden passageway - noisy clomping ALL night.. Car park full - parked on street. Left after 1 night, originally booked in for 3. No sleep. Have to go outside to get to kitchen.

If coming to Albany, 1849 backpackers is inexpensive, well setup, very friendly, has an excellent culture, everyone is respectful and is extremely child and pet friendly. The activities and happenings are fuelled by the imaginations of the people. Live, share, laugh and get taken back to a lost time of your youth, reconnect and find yourself again at 1849 backpackers. I only stayed for one night but was a great stay!! Al the staff were so friendly and helpful and they had pets there that were just as friendly, so cute. Woke up to free pancakes and the best ones I’ve ever eaten!!
