Description

Hidden under the heart of bustling Naples lies a 50-mile (80 km) network of caves and tunnels. Originally built as mines for the stone used to construct the buildings above, they have since been used as cult sites, catacombs, secret meeting places and even shelter during World War II.

Venture below the city to see the underground world that sits 131 feet (40 m) below the soil. With your expert guide at hand to provide fascinating anecdotes and history, walk this system of 2,700-year-old Greek tanks connected by 2,000-year-old Roman aqueduct channels. Learn all about the history of the structures, including how the tanks were used as a bomb refuge during the war.

Next, step through a secret trapdoor inside a seemingly normal Neapolitan home to visit the Greco-Roman theatre where the emperor Nero once held song exhibitions. With your feet back on land, indulge in a traditional lunch of pizza with drinks, then celebrate your afternoon's adventures with cake and coffee at the Napoli Sotterranea bar.

Fascinating and informative trip. Very narrow tunnels underground at one point but worth going through to see the water cistern after. Pizza lunch was excellent quality.

Always want to participate in unusual activities. This was one of them. If you enjoy history and culture this trip is for you. Be thin and physically fit. Vincent the guide was knowledgeable and I organized the group efficiently.

it was basically a tour through the bomb shelter /previous water reservoir of Naples / trash landfill. The tourguide was really nice but there is not much history to the place. The Roman theater tour showed two cellar rooms built by the Romans; the remainder cannot be excavated because of the residential structures built on top of it.
