Description

One of the largest labour camps during the dark days of World War II, Mauthausen is a poignant memorial of around 200,000 people who perished here. Drive from central Vienna to pay tribute to the victims at this site of utmost historical significance.

Between 1938 and 1945 hundreds of thousands from all over the continent were imprisoned and used for forced labour in the vast complex of Mauthausen. Today, the site stands as a solemn reminder of the most gruesome period of Austria's history.

Enroute to the camp listen to your guide explaining the historical context and learn about life
at Mauthausen concentration camp before its liberation in May 1945. Listen to a sensitive presentation and insightful facts from an audio-guide through your personal headset as you see the quarters of the fearful SS, the macabre prison cells, barracks, and gas chambers.

Visit the Wiener-Graben quarry, the infamous Stairs of Death, and the highly-acclaimed Mauthausen Museum. Gain a deep awareness of the tragedies of the 20th century and honour the victims—part of the proceeds of the tour is donated to the Memorial.

John the tour guide totally made our day on this tour! He was fascinating and interesting and we thoroughly enjoyed His commentary. Lunch was fabulous at a lovely restaurant with lots of choice. Again John was very considerate. Highly recommend this tour, it won’t disappoint.

It was a more private tour, on a bus of only 6-7. I felt the driver was very knowledgeable of the camp and pointed out a few landmarks as we were passing on the highway. I would highly recommend taking the tour with this company.
