The Gaslight is a music-inspired mid-century home on three hillside acres overlooking Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley. Paying tribute to the legendary Greenwich Village café, it pairs archival performer portraits and modern design with sweeping desert views. Spend afternoons in the seasonal cowboy tubs, evenings around the fire pit, and nights in the six-person hot tub. A detached casita gives friends or family room to spread out.
The Space:
There's a creative spirit to this house that feels right at home in the desert. Inspired by the Gaslight Café, the 1960s gathering place for musicians, artists and poets, the interiors mix archival photography, bold artwork and warm natural materials with clean architectural lines. Timber ceilings rise above the open living area, while expansive glass doors frame Joshua trees and distant mountains. The layout encourages an easy rhythm between cooking together, listening to music and heading outside to enjoy the hillside.

-Outdoor Amenities-
The hillside is a big part of life at The Gaslight. Three acres of Joshua trees, desert plants and open views surround the home, with several places to settle in depending on your mood. The covered patio feels like an outdoor living room, complete with comfortable seating, a television, colorful artwork and a dining area beside the propane BBQ. It's an inviting spot to spend an entire afternoon, with shade overhead and the landscape stretching out beyond the patio.
For a change of pace, head into the desert garden, where three cowboy tubs offer a refreshing place to cool off during warmer months. One is a larger 6-foot private cowboy tub, while two smaller tubs provide additional places to relax. The cowboy tubs are seasonal and unavailable November through March.
Four hammocks overlook the valley, particularly beautiful as the sun drops behind the mountains and the lights of town begin to appear below. Later, gather around the custom 5-foot propane fire pit or settle into the six-person hot tub beneath the night sky. An outdoor shower makes rinsing off easy between dips.
The outdoor fireplace on the covered patio is decorative and not operational. The property is not fully fenced.
-Living Area-
The living room is bright, open and comfortable without losing its personality. A generous sectional anchors the space, with a leather reading chair, patterned textiles and photography that nods to the home's musical inspiration. Floor-to-ceiling glass brings the desert into view, and the accordion doors can open wide to extend the gathering space onto the patio.
It's a room made for spending time together without needing a plan. Put on a playlist through the in-ceiling Sonos speakers, settle in for a movie, bring out the board games or pick up the house guitar. Books and comfortable seating invite quieter moments, while the open layout makes it easy to stay part of the conversation from the kitchen.
-Kitchen and Dining-
The kitchen keeps things straightforward and sociable, with open wood shelving, contemporary cabinetry and a stainless steel gas range. It's equipped with cookware, dishes, a dishwasher, blender, spices, olive oil and the essentials for preparing meals at home.
Mornings can begin with coffee from the Keurig or locally roasted Joshua Tree Coffee Company beans. The round dining table and colorful teal chairs create a casual place to gather, whether for breakfast before heading out or dinner after a day exploring. When the weather is inviting, take your meals onto the covered patio, where the outdoor dining area lets you enjoy the views a little longer.
-Bedrooms and Bathrooms-
The Gaslight has three bedrooms and two bathrooms across the main house and detached casita, giving guests a comfortable balance of shared spaces and personal room to retreat.
The primary bedroom sits at the end of the main house and features a king bed, soft textiles and an orange accent chair. A large sliding glass door opens directly outside, making it easy to step into the desert air first thing in the morning.
The second sleeping area has two twin beds in an open-concept arrangement, with an archival performer portrait adding a playful touch. It's a good option for children or friends who are comfortable sharing a more open sleeping space.
The third bedroom is located in the detached casita, offering a separate place to unwind. Inside, a queen bed is complemented by a private living area with zebra-print chairs, a dedicated workspace and its own bathroom. It's especially convenient for two couples traveling together, friends keeping different schedules or anyone who wants a little extra independence during the stay.
The main house bathroom features a walk-in shower and access to the outdoor shower. The casita has its own private bathroom with a walk-in shower, bringing the property's total to two full bathrooms.
