Avant-Poste Good Luck · Piscine, Jacuzzi, Salle de Jeux
Summary:
Up on 2.5 hillside acres of Yucca Valley, Good Luck Outpost pairs an in-ground pool and hot tub set among natural boulders with mountain views and a game room built for rematches. Swim through the afternoon, toss horseshoes under the shade tree, then light the gas fire pit as the sky over the valley changes color. Inside, this 70s-flavored midcentury home brings a popcorn bar, a record player and vinyl, and a mural in every bedroom. Luck is optional. Snacks are not.
The Space:
Good Luck Outpost is a midcentury home with a warm nod to the 70s, mixing retro flair, Western touches and modern comfort. It sits on 2.5 hillside acres in Yucca Valley with natural boulders and views, on paved roads with great cell coverage. Tongue-and-groove wood ceilings, mustard leather chairs and Navajo-style art set the tone, and a sunlit dining sunroom and a big game room give everyone somewhere to land. Three bedrooms, each with its own mural, share two bathrooms, which makes it an easy pick for families and friends who travel with a competitive streak.

-Outdoor Amenities-
The pool curves around boulders that were here long before the house, with the hot tub just beside it and the valley and mountains laid out beyond. Slip in for a sunrise swim, or stretch out on a lounger and let the afternoon go by. When it gets warm, the big shade tree over the patio is the place to be, with loungers underneath and the horseshoe pit close by.
Grill dinner on the gas BBQ while someone claims a hammock facing the sunset. As the light fades, pull an Adirondack chair up to the gas fire pit on the patio above the valley, then take a short walk out among the hillside boulders before settling into the hot tub under the stars.
-Living Area-
Tongue-and-groove wood ceilings, big windows and warm tones make the living area feel lived-in from the first evening. Sink into the leather sofa or a mustard swivel chair, set a record spinning from the nook by the bookshelves, and fill a bowl at the popcorn bar before movie night on the large smart TV. The wood stove is decorative and not functional, but it still gives the room its center.
Across the house, the game room is where the noise lives. Wood beams overhead, a painted mural wall and a row of games keep everyone busy: speedball, foosball, air hockey, shuffleboard and Skee-Ball, plus hanging chairs for whoever is sitting out the next round.
-Kitchen and Dining-
The fully equipped kitchen has wood cabinets, tile counters, an island and a breakfast bar, and it sits right between the living room and the dining room, so the cook never misses the conversation. Coffee and sugars are provided. Carry plates into the sunroom, where a round table, yellow chairs, a cactus garden and a daybed sit in all-day light with the valley in view. Long breakfasts tend to turn into lunch here.
-Bedrooms and Bathrooms-
The primary bedroom wakes up to a painted mountain mural and a Sputnik chandelier, with a smart TV, mirrored closets with plenty of space and an ensuite bathroom with a large shower. The second bedroom has a queen bed beneath a rainbow mural, and the third is made for kids, with a Star Wars-inspired space mural, a double bed and a twin bed. The hallway bathroom has a shower and tub combination and a round mirror over the vanity.
-Surrounding Area-
Yucca Valley has a relaxed, artistic feel, with cafés, boutiques and vintage shops to wander. Joshua Tree Village, La Copine, Pappy & Harriet's in Pioneertown and Joshua Tree National Park all make good outings, and the drive home ends with the fire pit and that view over the valley.
