Nice hotel hospitable staff

A welcoming family run business. Comfortable bed. Very clean crisp white sheets. Staff extremely hospitable. Overall a reasonable price considering the time of year.

GNU inn stay

Lovely village, easy to find. Friendly and helpful hosts. Breakfast when we wanted and what we wanted- perfect poached eggs!! Family room was double and 2 single- however note on door that if booked as a double can only use double or singles and not both as may be charged? I had booked it for 2 people as only room available but didn’t know what to do so both slept in double bed. Noisy water pipes but old building. For £60 was ideal.

Very accommodating hosts but rooms need attention

We went to North Newbald to investigate family history. We had booked a twin room but the shower didn't work so we were put into the family room with a king bed. The shower still had little pressure but at least it worked. The bathroom and bedroom could use some updating and some additional amenities (nails in the wall to hang your towel?) but it was quiet and in a small quaint village. The breakfast, served in the pub, was very good. And the hosts went out of their way to suggest how best to navigate the area and what to see in nearby York. And the owner even did some laundry for us! (above and beyond the call of duty!)

Hotel in a very pretty village on The Wolds Way

First of all I got a fantastic welcome from Lee and Carol who are very chatty and a really nice couple who couldn't do enough to make you feel at home. Their daughter was the chef and the food was excellent, generous portions and to be honest I thought was underpriced for what you got. I'd thoroughly recommend this hotel to any walkers doing the Way in fact it'd be the first place to book to make sure you get in! Hope to return again 1 day. Keep up the good work, enjoyed it immensely.

Fantastic meals

The meals produced by Giles were fantastic and very reasonable in price. The cask ale was very enjoyable but the location of the room was very close to the outside smoking area that became very noisy late at night. The location of the pub was ideal for visiting Beverley.

Staff very friendly and welcoming, breakfast service was friendly, fast and very informative. Rooms were as expected. Woke with a rustling from food delivery just before 7 am which we could have done without. Nice inn with pretty surrounding area.

Lovely country location

My wife, daughter, her friend and myself had the pleasure of staying at The Gnu Public House on the 22nd September 2012. It was very busy when we arrived at about 7pm, which told me that the landlords ran a very good house. The double room that we had was very comfortable and the twin that my daughter and friend had was the same. We had our evening meal here which was very good and value for money. Really good home cooking. The breakfast the following morning was also of good merit. Had a very pleasant chat with the landlady before we left thanking her for a very pleasurable and comfy stay. Both she and her husband Steve are very nice and competent hosts. Would recommend whole heartedly . Many thanks.

Great Place for quiet night

If you are looking for some were nice and quiet this is the place, excellent value for money. Steve and his wife could not be more helpful, food was excellent also

Our stay was only for one night. We arrived too late for a meal but it was no trouble for them to prepare us sandwiches after our long drive. The atmosphere was warm and friendly and the room was clean and very comfortable with tea and cofee making facilities. We went on our way with a tasty, well cooked full Enlish breakfast. Would venture back.

Blown away by the whole experience 11/10

I can not rate this hotel highly enough. From the minute we walked in and recieved a very warm welcome and the lay out i knew we had made the right choice. Once we had been shown to our room and got sorted we came down stairs for a "quick meal" and a drink to unwind. We ordered our meal from the wide range of choice on the menu, and both to our delight they were perfect with regards to price, value for money and quality of food served. Our quick meal turned in to a night of socialising in the bar with both the regulars and the staff (but not over the top, just made to feel very welcome). The following day we came down for breakfast and again we were served the perfect breakfast with the customer service we had come to expect from the previous day. Anything we asked for they ensured we recived, wether it was bus timetables,taxi numbers, ect ect. To top it all off for us, when the bus timetable didnt fit in with our plans, the landlady spoke to her husband who drove us 4 mile to a more convient bus route. We stayed at this hotel to visit York races,even though it is a little far out for York i wouldnt think twice about staying here again (infact we are returning in September). We had a lovely day in York, but the staff at the Gnu made our weekend so extra special and i am writing this review to say a massive THANK YOU. The service you deliver is a credit to your small team and it just shame some of the "so called " larger hotels couldnt take a leaf out of your book.

Fijn verblijf

Goed hotel voor een snelle overnachting. Ligt ongeveer een uur van de stad York. Kamers zien er goed uit en alles is aanwezig. Eten in de pub is zoals alle pubs, gewoon een goede meal voor een normale prijs. Vriendelijke en behulpzame mensen.
