With Winter Storm Fern targeting the Waco area and much of the U.S., the owner refused to allow us a refund, insisting the storm would not be an issue—despite widespread weather alerts and government travel warnings. We attempted to contact the owner multiple times starting five days before the storm through the app and VRBO with no resolution. Thankfully, we did not check in, as the area was later crippled: airports, churches, schools, and most businesses were closed due to record-low temperatures and ice, compounded by limited local infrastructure. Then, we received a message from the owner stating the home’s plumbing was not equipped for this type of weather. That and their unwillingness to refund during a national emergency may explain the high vacancy rate.Renters beware—this owner showed a clear disregard for guest safety.
