To check in, i had to remind the owner, as they didn't send the instructions. We arrived to the strong scent of disinfectant in the room; surprising, they certainly didn't use it on the bathroom as it was quite dirty. There was a helpful sign warning us that the water is unsafe to drink and saying water was provided- but there was none, they forgot it. The internet password was wrong, a major issue as we did not have phones that work in the USA. Forget the outdoor spa, its filthy and obviously hasn't been used in years, by anyone. The coquil frogs keep you awake all night. That was just the beginning.
The next day, only the second time i used the key, it snapped off in the door lock. Probably due to years of being weakened in the sticky locks in this unbelieveably humid place. Luckily i was able to extract the broken key, but now we can't lock the room. We had to go to town to get internet to talk to the owner, who started out un-helpful and then went the rip you off route.
I have the messages to prove it- at first they said they had to go get the spare key; then that they couldn't come out yet. Amazingly, the spare key then evaporated, replaced by an unbelieveable demand for $200 ! To get a key cut? Who are you kidding? I refused. Faced with a room that was unsecure and terrible anyway , and an owner whom i obviously couldn't trust, we found another much nicer place and left immediatley. Don't trust these people and its a dump anyway.
nice room with amazing views. Room was perfect and property was gorgeous. Jacuzzi was filthy and run down so could not use but the rest made up for that
While the room is cute and we enjoyed the view of the forest, it did not compensate for the deficiencies. The cleaning fee we were charged is hard to accept considering the conditions. The room smelled of cigarette smoke immediately upon entering the unit when we got there on Friday afternoon around 4:15-4:30pm. The floor had dirt and dust and bathroom mirror had previous occupants toothpaste spittle on it. Then we went to the jacuzzi: cover is falling apart, not connected to the removal bar. Piles of dirt on each step/bottom. No chlorine tablets in blue and white floater. Unpleasant smell of the water that intensified when the jets were turned on. Path lights from parking area to room to hot tube not working.
We did take home 2 dinner knives by accident and we will gladly return them as we live in Kona and visit Volcano often.
My family recommended your place to us as they stayed in the main upstairs unit a few months ago and gave us good reviews.
We were sadly disappointed with our experience.
Mahalo,

The VRBO communications system seemed difficult. We did not receive info on how to access the property until a couple hours before our arrival after I wrote to the owner. Parking was challenging. The space offered was quite tight. There was no WiFi available. The property is in a rain forest- very humid but beautiful.
Pahoehoe room was lovely and well kept. We had easy access to Volcano National Park. The room maximizes the rain forest experience with large windows and beautiful flowers. We would stay here again! Mahalo!
