A world of subterranean wonders, a milestone in geological discoveries, Luray caverns, is a wonderful weekend getaway for those who are living near DC or Virginia. It is around 2 hours (or more) drive from washington DC.
This is a picture of the "Dream Lake", a spring of water which has a mirror-like appearance. Stalactites are reflected in the water making them appear to be stalagmites. This gives an illusion that the lake is deeper. The lake is connected to a spring that continues deeper into the caverns.
All in all, it was my first time exploring caverns. It was a fun filled day, learning the stories of the cavern.

Tips:
1) It is very crowded on weekends and holidays. If you want to enjoy peaceful, slow paced, less crowded tour of the caverns, go on weekdays.
2) If you visit the caverns, look for these things-
Saracen's tent - scarves and shawls of translucent calcite, falling in graceful folds, fringed with a thousand patterns, and so thin that a candle light can reveal the structure within!
The fried eggs formation - yes, it looks like fried eggs ;)
The Great Stalacpipe Organ - An actual organ which plays music- sounds of Stalactites! DO NOT miss this one!

« We really enjoyed a relaxing stay here. It is located in lovely VA farm/vineyard country with beautiful views from various rooms in the Manor. The accommodations and common areas where beautifully appointed. We didn't have dinner there but the breakfast was substantial and very good (fresh eggs from their chickens apparently!). The staff was warm and gracious always anticipating our needs. They even had a Lucid EV charger that they allowed us to use prior to leaving to allieve my range...

« We spend two wonderful days. The room was clean, really nice and unique. All the available rooms are open so you can enjoy and see all the different decoration. Bed was super confortable, local and very nice toiletries available in the room and hostess so welcoming and available. Then you go to breakfast in the morning and you definitely say that you will be back! It was gorgeous, made with fresh products and so well prepared. We also dine one night there and diner was as good and well prepared...

« My husband and I travelled to Hillbrook Inn over the weekend to celebrate his birthday. We stayed in Summit Room in the farmhouse. It was clean, private and a beautiful space with extra sitting room area. We took advantage of the charcuterie board on our arrival and it was a nice treat before heading to dinner. « The Inn was on a lovely property near a river walk. An amazing ale house is also on the property. Very quaint and comfortable. Games, books and a front porch swing were provided. Our hosts were accommodating and friendly. The Breakfests were exceptional with delightful farm fresh eggs and produce. Overall it was a very relaxing and fun getaway. A side note that Sperryville is a weekend town there was not much to do during the week. »

"Tout est sale puanteur..un édifice à détruire le bain ,les rideaux ..j’ai eu peur aux infestations..je n’ai pas osé déposer mes bagages sur le plancher..Nous avons dormi dans notre V R de peur de infester nos bagages . Nous avons utilisé le stationnement pour dormir dans le véhicule.. je ne comprends pas vous êtes associé à cet établissement.c’est à ne rien comprendre !"

"Propreté de la chambre, confort absolu! Personnel courtois, serviable, le repas du restaurant savoureux, le buffet du petit déjeuner très complet et délicieux. Seul bémol le service de navette de l’aéroport pour se rendre à l’hôtel, très complexe de rejoindre le desk et attente de 45 min. dans notre cas nous avons opter pour une autre option ! Pour le retour vers l’aéroport c’était simple et rapide. "
