23 minutes from Victoria, 23 minutes from Sooke, Blue Sky Retreat is a quiet respite and rest for anyone wanting to get the best out of their stay at the southern end of Vancouver Island.

We have a suite available with a private living room, bedroom and private balcony with swing, gravity chairs, BBQ and your own private entrance, a kitchenette and private bathroom with shower. An additional guest can easily be accommodated on the memory foam full size sofa bed in the living room. We provide additional bedding (pillows, duvets, blankets) as required.

The kitchenette includes our own freshly roasted and ground coffee, assorted midnight snacks, teas, milk and bottled water in the fridge/freezer. A countertop convection oven/toaster and microwave are also included. (The new kitchen in July/August 2025 will include dishwasher, induction stove, and OTR microwave.)

The front yard has a secluded glade surrounded by Arbutus and pine trees. Please note that Spring cleanup of the garden occurs in April / May of each year.

The location is conveniently close to amenities, Lookout Lake Park, Olympic View Golf course, hiking, Galloping Goose Trail, about 8 minutes from the ocean with many off-leash beaches. Ask us about dog parks, beaches, hiking trails, and local sights to see.

We have two large dogs, a playful 6 year old Bernese mountain dog that loves everyone but gets momentarily very excited to meet new guests, and our new addition, a 1 yr old Berner pup that is still adjusting and is happily chewing up everything she can find.

We always bring them out to greet you upon first arrival so that they get to meet and know you.

If you are not comfortable being around dogs our location is probably not suitable. The suite downstairs has its own door closing it off from the rest of the house so no cats or dogs can stray in. We'd prefer that any guest dogs also not stray outside the suite or outside area.

Amazing place to stay between Sooke and Victoria. That lake beneath the property is spellbinding. The two dogs are so sweet and the apartment is roomy and filled with light. Would definitely stay again!

Doug was very welcoming and gave us a great tour! The dogs are so sweet, and the property is as described. The snacks and coffee are so thoughtful, and we made great use of them! So close to lots of amenities, and a nice short walk to the lake below. Would definitely stay again!

What an incredible view! Was lovely to just sit in the zero gravity chairs and enjoy it all evening. The bed was very comfortable, with great linens and pillows. The bed itself does not have a box spring, and is very low to the ground which could be important if your knees aren't great. The bathroom was wonderful, with lots of extras if you forgot anything. There were snacks in the cupboard and cream for your coffee which is lovely if you havent had time to shop before arrival. Very much recommend, and the owners dogs are lovely!

Stunning views from our balcony and bedroom. Easy vehicle access to Victoria and surrounding communities but not recommended for cyclists - didn’t realize Colwood could have such steep hills. Loved the experience. Thank you

Doug is an excellent host and has a clean, quiet, comfortable suite. Many amenities are provided such as coffee cream, fresh roast coffee, "midnight snacks" etc.The area is quiet and secluded and offers beautiful views of the countryside. His dogs are friendly and in our opinion were a non issue throughout the stay. We enjoyed ourselves and would stay again.

We very much enjoyed our stay in this location. It was exactly as described. My husband was happy to see an eagle land in a tree nearby. I enjoyed the introduction to and relaxed approach of our host. I would definitely stay here again if in the Sooke area.

The place was spotless and the owners provided several extra touches like freshly roasted coffee beans. The only reason we didn’t give a 5 star rating is because the property description said there was a washer and there wasn’t. We were on a long trip and selected places with washers. The owner offered to wash our clothes but we didn’t feel comfortable doing that. Otherwise it was great.

The property was exactly as pictured, Doug’s hospitality was great, and getting to pet some dogs is always a welcomed bonus! There was also some water bottles in the fridge, some toiletries if you forgot anything, and even a snack drawer! Lovely stay.

We had a fantastic stay at this VRBO! The owner is incredibly helpful, super kind, and very accommodating. The place is clean and comfortable and also dog-friendly, which was a huge plus for us. Our dog had a blast playing with the owner's dogs. Highly recommend this place for anyone traveling with pets!

Doug was super responsive to all my messages and made me feel welcome. Sophie and Teesha were very glad to greet me. The inside of the space looks exactly as advertised, but the views are absolutely spectacular. I arrived to see the sun setting over the bay and the mountains. Everything was super comfy. I would definitely stay again.

An ideal location for our stay in Victoria. Close to abundant shopping in nearby Langford and fairly easy to get into Victoria or noth towards Sooke. Only negative (for us in Feb) was a lack of cable TV. We were unable to watch the national news or a hockey game. We'd be interested in staying again in the future.

We booked 12/18-23, really needing a tranquil getaway - this wasn’t it Doug was very welcoming & sent directions on getting there & parking. Typically, we’d leave after b'fst & sightsee until after dinner. The noise from upstairs was very noticeable, more insulation desperately needed between their living space and ours. An area rug beneath their dining room table would also help towards less noise. The apt. had dust on tabletops/bookshelf, many wet cigarette butts on the deck, & the bathroom corner had 2” of black grime & the shower had hairs. But the location was great, & we were only there for a few waking hr’s daily. However, on the 3rd day, we woke to a vacuum cleaner upstairs. We left by 10am & didn’t get back until after 7pm - to no parking spots - they were having a party. Upon request, Doug cleared out a parking spot for us. We walked downstairs to our apt.& it sounded like the party was in OUR apt. It sounded like ppl. were playing musical chairs upstairs. On the 3rd call upstairs (prev. replies from Doug were that they'd quiet down - but never happened), Rick answered & said, "I'm sick of you calling us!" We decided to check out the next morn, regardless of a refund. I knocked on their door at 10:20am to advise Doug - he reimbursed us for 2 nt’s, but the trip still cost 200 more than planned. POSITIVES: great view of mtns/lake, artistically deco'd, universal chargers at both nightstands, plenty of closet space, friendly (big) dogs, great convenient location.

Loved the great welcome from the pups !The view was great ,the place cozy.The freshly roasted coffee was excellent ea morning .Close to all the places in Victoria.Short drives each way .Will definitely return.
