The LINGE is a first world war (1914 - 1918) battlefield, where one of the bloodiest confrontations of the war took place between July 20th and October 15th 1915, resulting 17000 deaths. Near this impressing graveyard there a museum.
The LINGE memorial museum displays French and German objects found on site: weapons, munitions, personal objects and relics. Models of French and German infantry men, scale models of the battlefield, photos, texts, maps. Outside you can walk over the battlefield with the remains of the trenches.
Situated in the Alsace is the pretty village of Kayersberg.

You can climb from the town up through the vineyards to the castle, which is free, for some great views across the town.

At the time of year we visited the grapes still had a lot of growing time left but you could see vineyards for miles around from the top.
