A BEAUTIFUL LUXURY LODGE IN THE HEART OF THE SUFFOLK COUNTRYSIDE Step out of your tranquil lodge onto the patio and watch the wildlife on the lake, or walk into the unspoilt countryside and explore this unique part of stunning Suffolk. Visit the nearby historical towns of Needham Market and Lavenham and the medieval town of Bury St Edmunds.
Oak Lodge is ideal for weekend escapes to just unwind and relax, or longer breaks to visit so many different places within easy reach. The lodge has two bedrooms. The largest has a king size with an en-suite bathroom. The second bedroom has twin beds with a separate bathroom. The living area has a television above the fireplace, with a comfy sofa and chairs to relax in.
There is strong WiFi signal available, which you are able to switch off if you wish to disconnect completely. The fully fitted kitchen has everything you need to make your self-catering stay very easy and relaxing. There is an electric oven and gas hob and also a microwave so cooking is straightforward. There is a utility room, perfect for muddy boots, with a washer and dryer.
To respect our other guests, we ask that a maximum of two dogs stay in the lodge and sleep in the utility (and in their crates if you have them) and request they do not go on the beds please. There are two allocated parking spaces for Oak Lodge, with extra visitors spaces too. There is a comfy patio seating area which is ideal for BBQs, please bring your own charcoal.
Welhams Meadow is surrounded by the family farm, there are lots of public footpaths on the farm which are perfect for long walks. The two lakes are stocked with fish - mainly carp, roach and perch, and if you have a fishing licence you are more than welcome to fish here. Each lodge has a club permit for guests to use, issued by the Gipping Valley Angling Club who oversee the fish management of the lakes.
Please be aware that if you have small children they will need to be supervised as the lakes are not fenced off. Welhams Meadow is a three acre site for you to enjoy, but please respect the privacy of the guests staying in the other lodge.
My daughter Georgie and I live 300 metres up the road at the farmhouse, so we will be available to help if there are any issues. At the other end of the village is the community-run pub, the Punch Bowl. It has a great atmosphere, especially in the evenings and at weekends. Also the French chef there serves delicious food for you to enjoy!
Needham Market is full of character and less than a 10 minute drive away. Alder Carr Farm shop is ideal for a coffee and homemade cake, or a light lunch with a farm shop and a handful of small independent retail shops. Needham Lake is great and the Duck and Teapot cafe is very dog and family friendly. Lavenham is stunning historical landmark in the heart of Suffolk and famous for it's architecture as it's the most complete medieval town in England.
Bury St Edmunds is less than a 30 minutes drive away and has been recently voted a top destination to visit in the country by the Sunday Times! At Welhams Meadow you'll have many public footpaths on your doorstep, we provide some suggested walks in our Welcome packs. Other local pubs include the Bildeston Crown for a real treat or The Rampant Horse , both are a short drive away. Plus, there is Burnt House Vineyard a few miles from Welhams Meadow. It is easiest to drive to Welhams Meadow (IP14 2HF), as we are a short distance from the A14, A12 and M11.
The narrow country roads nearby show you the stunning Suffolk countryside and wildlife. The closest train station is Stowmarket, which is on the main train line from London Liverpool Street to Norwich.
On departure day we request guests to leave the lodge by 10am. On arrival day we request you check in from 4pm onwards. However we may be flexible on this check in time if we have had the time available to get the lodge ready after the previous guests have left that morning.
