  • The California Condor was a common sight along the Columbia River in Lewis and Clark's day. By the early 1980's, there were only twenty-two left on the face of the planet, all in California. Today, thanks to a massive effort to re-populate the species via in-captivity pairing, there are some two-hundred members. But their recovery is far from assured. The Oregon Zoo has undertaken its own recovery effort whose ultimate goal is the re-introduction of the species into the protected wilderness area around the Columbia River Gorge. In short, to bring them home. For now, they live out their days in a vast, outdoor aviary designed specifically to mimic their habitat in the wild. If you have never seen one up close before, I urge you to come take a look. They are larger than any flying bird you will ever see, unless you go to Peru. And though black and white practically from head to toe, their plumage shines and reflects the light like dark, polished metal. If that doesn't suit your fancy, I will tell you that, as with all big birds, if you wait around long enough, they will do something so awe-inspiring that it will take your breath away, and something so goofy that you will laugh out loud. Perfect! Very comfortable and very well appointed. We were able to cook a complete Thanksgiving dinner without bringing any of our own kitchen items. The view from the place is absolutely stunning. Everything inside is like new, is very clean, and they haven't missed a single thing. Couches, beds and other furniture are very comfortable. Our hosts were very responsive, although we didn't need them for anything because they have already thought of everything! We will definitely be back.

Everything was great!! Great hosts, including willow the friendly outside cat. The casita could not have been better—fully stocked kitchen, regular size fridge, coffee/tea keurig, extra towels, washer/dryer. Proximity to so many wineries and cute towns and hiking. Not one complaint. Loved this place…we’ll be back again to continue to explore Oregon.

As most have said, Lisa and Mark are great! The house is awesome and great touches are everywhere. I was really happy to find nightstands and lamps on both sides of the bed and an easily accessible power strip next to the bed as well. We would definitely stay here again!

This is an excellent choice for a stay in Sherwood Oregon area.Clean! Semi rural quiet environment yet close drive to Portland.Comfortable wine country decor and furnishings.I will stay here again.Was spacious compared to hotel rooms.Host quickly replied to all messages.AC works great.The Murphy bed was not comfortable for adult (225 lbs) who said it felt like a foam pad over plywood. But that may be all you could expect from a Murphy bed. I have no experience there.Kind regards,Stephen M. From Idaho

The casita was wonderful! Spotless and fully stocked with amenities. It was perfect for our needs. Mark and Lisa are wonderfuls hosts, allowing us to enjoy the bounty from their fruit trees and tomato plants. Our favorite part of the day was sunrise on the porch with coffee. The "Wine Country Casita" is nothing short of AWESOME! Mark and Lisa, the owners, have decorated it beautifully and have thought of literally everything you could possibly need during your stay. The kitchen is absolutely amazing and fully stocked with plenty of nice dishes, silverware, utensils, pots/pans, and small appliances. We were there for a week, so we also put all the major appliances to the test. The refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, washer, and dryer were all really nice and worked great! Check-in was super easy and Mark and Lisa are easy to contact, if there are any issues. The casita is extremely clean, comfortable, and relaxing. The front porch offers gorgeous views and you can see Mt. Hood on a clear day. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Best VRBO Hosts Ever!

This property was perfectly positioned outside of the city for all of our adventures and activities. Not only was it white glove spotless but it was beautifully appointed, super cozy comfy, and had absolutely everything we needed. Mark and Lisa are the world's best hosts! They were attentive when needed and invisible when not. Such lovely people! I would give this a Hundred Stars.

Beautiful place to stay!

This property, which is an apartment above a workshop, separate from the main house, was beautiful inside and out! Exceptionally clean, modern, and cozy. The views of the valley and Mt. Hood are exceptional. It was cold while we visited and the two "split" units kept us nice and warm. Every type of kitchen and bathroom supply is provided. For us, it was perfectly located to the family we visit in the area. We will absolutely return to this home!

Simply the Best!

Wine Country Casita is fabulous! Every amenity you need or want is provided and the hosts were so welcoming and friendly. The property is super clean, spacious for the two of us and convenient as a home base for travel in all directions. My absolute favorite thing was waking up each morning to a beautiful sunrise over Mt. Hood to the east. Breathtaking! Rated a 10 out of 10 in our book!

Another comfy Stay at the Casita

The Casita has a perfect view of Mt. Hood, and a front porch overlooking the valley. The hosts are so welcoming. A nice get away from the hustle and bustle.
