Indulge in historic Downtown Savannah in this artfully decorated 2 story carriage house. Great location steps from Forsyth Park! Shared courtyard and patio area to enjoy the coastal weather. Downstairs bedroom and full bathroom with clawfoot tub/shower plus upstairs loft bedroom offers a serene escape. Full kitchen. Washer and Dryer.

​​​​​​​While the property offers manicured comforts and Southern panache, the surrounding neighborhood, known as the Victorian district, affirms Savannah's status as a premiere vacation destination. The Victorian District was home to famous Revolutionary war heroes and dignitaries, including Eli Whitney and Juliette Gordon Low, founder of The Girl Scouts of America. This quaint, pristine landscape is pedestrian friendly, with quick access to guided bus tours, horse-drawn carriage rides, and The Fragrant Garden for the Blind. The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) main campus is close by, as are numerous world-class, trending restaurants offering a plethora of dining options an easy walk or bike ride away.

  • Designed by John S. Norris for General Hugh Weedon Mercer, construction of the house began in 1860. Construction was interrupted by the American Civil War, and finally completed around 1868 by the new owner, John Wilder. Before Hansford's death, as retold in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, the house had already been the scene of two deaths. In 1913, a previous owner tripped over the second floor banister, fractured his hip, and suffered a concussion, dying three days later. In 1964, a boy chasing pigeons on the roof fell over the edge and impaled himself on the iron fence below.

The House was fine and looked exactly like the pictures. Parking was a headache, considering I had to circle a few times to find street parking. The tub is extremely high, so be prepared for that. Other than that, it was fine.

Great place, stocked with everything I needed to cook simple meals. Location is perfect to the park and for walking to many popular locations. I was visiting my college son and the loft bedroom gave extra space for him to stay and hang out during my visit. Great for friends or a couple . Tiny, quaint, and full of character.

This space held me so well. I enjoyed the neighborhood and park nearby. The coffee shop and restaurants nearby were great as well. Parking was something to figure out but not too bad.

Decent. We only stayed for one night. There was no lightbulbs in one of the bedrooms and a pretty significant ceiling leak in the main bathroom that puddled on the floor and the labeled toiletries were not stocked. The garbage receptacle was a little difficult to find outside of the back gate. If everything was taken care of it would have been great, but you could find a nicer place for the same price. As is, we would not stay again.

False advertisement

If you are staying on this property, what they don’t tell you is that you have to find parking on an adjacent street! this property obviously has not been kept up. The back door knob is about to fall off and the whole door jam moves with the door. We could not lock the property by the front door because it wouldn’t lock from the outside therefore we had to leave out of the back door. Warning if you are above 5 foot two staying in the upstairs bedroom will be a nightmare. The ceilings are very low and our guess bumped his head on the ceiling fan a few times . They just all decided to stay downstairs. It was safer. The grill needs to be trashed! It’s rusty, broken and full of trash and spiders. No barbecuing here! The washer didn’t look usable it had a broken door so I didn’t use it. A family of 4 on a 4 day stay were only given 1 towel and 1 rag each. Lesson learned!! Never again!
This grill is disgusting. It’s rusty full of trash and spider webs.
The back door knob is about to fall off and the door jam is loose!

Dancers Dream

My daughter and I stayed here for a week for a dance competition. It was perfect for the two of us. Loved the proximity to Forsyth Park and even downtown wasn’t too far to walk to. Comfortable living and sleeping quarters. Our only question in the most haunted city in America… Is this place haunted?

Loved staying here! It’s convenient to a lot and allowed us to walk and explore Savannah like we wanted. Our only complaint would be the beds being hard, but that really person to person preference.

Our stay was great! Number one Mary was such a pleasure, she is super responsive and accommodating. The home is full of charm and it’s cozy. Mary has it equipped with everything you need for your stay. It really did feel like home away from home. The location was perfect! Right across the street from the park and 5mins uber or 15mins walk to everything! We will definitely be back and highly recommend this home for your next visit.
