Isla en el Cielo is a spacious three-bedroom home in Pacific Heights — a safe, high-end neighborhood of luxury homes tucked away in the mountains surrounding Playa Potrero.

The Space:
The home features a bright, airy, open-concept living space with a living room, dining area, and kitchen. The living room is furnished with a blue linen couch, a wooden coffee table, plush ottomans, and a flat-screen TV. Behind the sofa, there is a wooden dining table with seating for six people. The living and dining areas are situated next to a large sliding glass door that opens to the home’s patio space.

The spacious floor plan also features a massive chef’s kitchen with high-end white quartz countertops and state-of-the-art stainless steel appliances, including an oven, stovetop, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, and freezer. The modern kitchen also has a stylish light-blue tile backsplash, tons of sleek white cabinets and drawers for storage, and a large quartz center island with two rattan chairs under an elegant light fixture.

The master bedroom features a laid-back coastal theme with a blue comforter patterned with palm leaves and two stylish rattan light fixtures above the king-sized bed. It also features a flat-screen TV, a walk-in closet, and a sliding glass patio door that leads to a private patio with ocean views. The second and third bedrooms each feature a bright, inviting tropical design with rattan light fixtures and a sliding glass patio door. The second bedroom has a king bed, and the third has a queen bed.

Each bedroom has an en-suite bathroom, and there is an additional bathroom in the hallway. The master bathroom features a walk-in shower with beautiful stonework, a separate tub, and a double-sink vanity.

When you walk out the patio door in the living room, you’ll be greeted by a beautiful covered patio with a new dining set and comfortable outdoor seating, as well as a barbecue grill and a couple of lounge chairs to soak up the sunshine. Venture down the walkway and stairs in the backyard to reach the swimming pool — a stunning infinity pool that overlooks the Pacific Ocean and lush mountains surrounding Playa Potrero. This property also features a guesthouse with two additional bedrooms that you can book for up to 12 guests.

The Neighborhood:
Pacific Heights is a mountainside community in the hills above Playa Potrero with stunning ocean views. Look out on palm trees, lush gardens and the beautiful seascape, surrounded almost completely by frog-green hillsides. Mountain breezes make this hillside perch much cooler than the beach, and wild animals are frequently spotted here.

Drive down the road and you’re in Potrero, with easy access to three beaches (Potrero, Penca and Prieta), and many other beaches to the north and south. The Mediterranean-style village of Las Catalinas is nearby, as is the brand-new Marina Flamingo.

Offering easy access to three beaches (Potrero, Penca and Prieta), this town combines upscale lodging options with the charm of a traditional Costa Rican town (think central plaza with church, school and soccer field).
There are plenty of restaurants, shops and other conveniences, and the downtown area has two mini supers (convenience stores), as well as a commercial plaza with a coffee shop, a hairdresser and other businesses.
Some of the liveliest nightlife in the region can be found at Las Brisas Bar, right on the beach, though it’s normally hopping only on Wednesdays (Ladies’ Night).
Potrero has several nice housing developments with “Villagio” in the name, popular among Italians and other expats. You can find Italian gelato shops, Costa Rican sodas (small, affordable restaurants) and hotels in a range of prices (Pitaya Lodge, Bahía La Esmeralda, Hotel Isolina, Bahía del Sol).
Just to the south of Potrero lie all the attractions of Surfside, and to the north is a beautiful, hilly drive along the ocean, ending at the Mediterranean-style village of Las Catalinas. Potrero is within easy striking distance of several beaches, and it’s a great base to explore the entire region — for a sampler of both the high-end and the humble.

Getting Around:
Our agents will be happy to assist you with renting a car, giving you the freedom to explore the area where you want, when you want. For short drives to nearby towns or beaches, golf carts are another popular mode of transportation. You can also rent a bicycle to ride around in town or beyond.

We can arrange transfers to and from the airport. Rental cars can also be delivered to your property at no additional cost, allowing you to relax and enjoy the scenery as our private van drives you here from the airport.

Taxis are available but can be a bit hard to find. Many locals use buses to get around, though there are a limited number of routes and times of day when you can catch them. Private shuttles can be a great option for traveling to nearby destinations, and many tour companies offer transportation to and from the tour. Our information brochure will provide you with useful information on local transportation options and points of interest, as well as contact information for taxis and shuttles.

This is a lovely home. We had a wonderful time. We decided not to rent a car and now wish we had. The drive up to the house is EXTREMLY steep. This is not a walking location. However, with the height you get spectacular views. We ended up using Uber a few times to go out to dinner and grocery shopping. While we all want to save water, the hot water system is not very efficient. The showers have to run for quite some time to get warm., not saving on water much.

The place was amazing. The views were great and the property was perfect. Many great places to eat in the area and ample kitchen utensils to cook your own meals. The only issue we had, which if you know ahead of time was no big deal but, the city water was on and off during our stay but we worked around it. All and all, it was a great trip.

Overall impression: Pros: The property management team were the absolute best. Communication was absolutely spot on from planning dinners and excursions from the beginning of the trip to the end. The drive to the property is definitely rugged but absolutely worth it! The house itself is safe, super clean, spacious, quiet, and has all the amenities that are needed for your stay. The beds are definitely comfortable. There is sufficient air conditioning throughout the entire house as well. The interior and exterior aesthetics match the listing photos for sure. We cooked quite a bit during our stay but also made a point to hit some local restaurants as well. The views from the property are amazing, stunning, and picturesque. The infinity swimming pool is nicely done and is refreshing after a day of exploring beaches and or waterfalls of Costa Rica. Cons: There were not many negative things to say about the property really. Only a couple of things I noticed were that the two guest rooms did have water come in from the sliding glass doors during a thunderstorm. So the bottom of the frames are probably not sealed correctly. Also one of the towel racks in a guest bathroom was loose from the wall. The tankless water heater is on the opposite side of the house of the showers so it took a moment for the water to warm up in the shower. These issues were not a deal breaker for us at all since it was only the wife and I. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will come back again!!!
