Discover the charms of the funky Mission Beach neighborhood in this beachside San Diego vacation rental just steps from the boardwalk! Head straight to the beach, or burn some rubber on the boardwalk, and you'll soon learn why this neighborhood has a special place in the hearts of locals. This lower-level Mission Beach vacation rental, part of a triplex, is also close to Belmont Park, Balboa Park, La Jolla Village and the San Diego Zoo, so get out there and experience the best of sunny, laid-back San Diego! Bring the kids! This rental is great for families with well-appointed bedrooms and a full bathroom equipped with a tub, meaning the kids can take a bath after a day at the beach. With a full kitchen (including a dishwasher) you can cook your own meals if you choose, and the living room features a 42-inch plasma TV for nightly movies. There is a common area patio for with a BBQ and seating area to soak up the sun. Coin-operated washer and dryer on site. There are some beach items available chairs, umbrella, cooler, boogieboards, and toys. Things to Know Check-in time: 4:00 p.m. Check-out time: 10:00 a.m. All guests shall abide by the good neighbor policy and shall not engage in illegal activity. Quiet hours are from 10:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. No smoking is permitted anywhere on the premises. No pets

Electricity went out on us and I had to find and reset circuit breakers, fire alarms kept going off for no reason. We did not cook anything in the rental so we disconnected them and had to put them outside. Lights and ceiling fans kept turning on and off randomly at all hours of the night. But, other than the internet connectivity being poor, at least we had a place to sleep each night before each days adventures which was the primary reason for coming to SD. We still had fun once we got out of the rental and got on to our adventures and that’s what it’s really about!

Host was very welcoming. Loved the location. Parking garage was very small and hard to access with a bigger vehicle. We could hear guests on the 2nd floor a lot. Must not be much insulation.

This place was literally a complete dump. Booked this months in advance and got check-in information the morning of arrival. Upon showing up, the place was a complete wreck with the ceiling torn out and living room under complete construction due to water leaks. This place in no way should have been listed and the company/owner should have notified us weeks/days in advance that the place was in no shape or form to stay. The pictures did not even represent the outside of the place which was also run down and plants all dead. We arrived at 3:30/4pm with all our stuff and groceries after driving over 6 hours, left with no where to stay. When trying to get ahold of the host/company Vacasa , no one answered and it took time to try and track down someone to talk to. The emergency phone number given led to an answering system. The whole experience was a complete nightmare and we didn’t get checked into an alternate place until 11 that evening. I would not recommend this host or the company, Vacasa who is now supposedly taken over the account. I should have taken pictures of the place. In the end I did get money refunded, but cost of the entire experience was more than the refund.

The location was fantastic! Close proximity to the beach, local shops and restaurants. The kitchen and living room were nice, however the bedrooms lacked comfortable beds. They have also recently renovated the bathroom, to remove the bathtub, while the shower is beautiful, it is a bit inconvenient with a toddler.

This location is outstanding, steps from the beach and Belmont Park. It was a good sized space for our family with two young kids and comfortable furnishings. However there were multiple cleanliness issues, primarily the floor was broom clean but after walking in our socks, they turned black as did the bottoms of my kids feet. I alerted management to this and the best they could do was get the cleaners back the day before we checked out which we declined at that point. There were also multiple issues with ceiling fans which meant we had to coordinate timing with the repair person they sent to check it out and it was uncomfortably warm in one bedroom and the light kept turning on overnight in the second.

End of Summer Vaca

Cute beach condo! Great location. The online pictures do not portray the updates to the kitchen and bathroom. The condo has a really comfy beach vibe. Otherwise everything was as expected. We had a few technical issues and our inquiry was answered within a few minutes which was amazing. I would like to say that although a full size SUV fits in the garage the anxiety getting it in there was enough not to move the car all week. I would not bring my car again. The alleyway and turn radius is almost impossible mid SUV tops! Thankfully we did a ton of walking and Uber came in handy. Also there were some teens in the space above us. If you are a light sleeper not the rental for you. They were not being excessively noisy just walking around in the middle of the night. Overall we had a great stay and would recommend!

I'm giving 4 stars because overall it was fine. The beds and pillows were comfortable, sheets were clean, and plenty of clean towels (bath and beach) as well. There were beach toys and boogie boards for the kids and it's pretty much on the beach and a block from Belmont Park. I was happy to see that there was shampoo, conditioner, and body wash provided! Then I was sad to see that all 3 bottles were filled with the same soap. Luckily I brought my own. The furniture was fine, nothing to write home about but we didn't get the place to hang out inside anyway. It looked and smelled like they did some recent updates to the kitchen, bathroom, and ceiling fans. Nice! But the lights in the fans would randomly turn on at all times of the day and night. Not ideal. Bring a sleep mask! All in all it was good enough, we didn't rent it to have a fancy get-a-way, we just wanted a place to shower and sleep that was close to the beach for the kids. I'd stay there again (as long as my auntie rents a big fancy one down the beach again too) ghostly lights and all.

Great location - rough interior

We stayed here for a Mother/Daughter long weekend at the beginning of May. The location was wonderful and the parking was really convenient and easy to access. The interior of the rental was pretty rough. Exposed outlets, broken screens, grimey cupboards and surfaces, dead bugs on window sills, etc. I honestly think the cleaning team probably did a fine job, but the actual apartment is just so worn that there isn't a lot that can be done to spruce it up. The beds were very comfortable, but the rest of the furniture felt very dorm-room-curb-find. If you are particularly sensitive to musty/mildew, you might consider bringing some allergy meds along.We spoke with the rental agent when we arrived and they were very responsive. In end I definitely appreciate that all the homes in this area are older places that have a lot of charm and huge variety of upkeep needs. Moisture is unavoidable this close to the ocean. It feels possible that owner has just made the decision to let the property exist as it is until they decide they are ready for more major renovations. Our stay was totally fine. We slept well, we loved walking around to the nearby locales. We appreciated easy parking. We just felt surprised by the level of upkeep given the other rentals we've stayed in over the last few years. Again, I was really impressed with the rental agency's response!

Fun at the beach, easy walk to Belmont park

The place was comfortable for a fun spring break with our family at the beach. We appreciated the boogie board and sand toys available in the garage. The patio space with a hose to wash off the sand before entering the house was really useful. Everything was as listed. One possible improvement would be up have a mirror in the bedroom to make sharing one bathroom a little easier.

Heavy rain was an issue

Pros: Great location (steps from the beach and very walkable to several shops, restaurants, bars and attractions), outdoor/patio space, comfortable beds, plenty of space. Cons: Heavy rain came in through the windows in both bedrooms. Luckily we didn't use any beach towels because we needed them all to soak up the water inside. I was in contact with Vacasa immediately to report the issue was told they'd report it to the local team and keep me posted with updates. The next day a random and unexpected man showed up to check out the windows. A heads up would've been appreciated when letting a random person into our rental space. Also, a tiny bit of cosmetic work would make a world of difference.

Weeklong getaway with the whole family

Excellent location! Walked to the gorgeous beach and boardwalk every day (literally from the front door to the beach is a two minute walk). Arcade was nice for our 13 year old. SeaWorld was just a few minutes drive away, and the zoo and downtown were less than 15 minute drive away. Property manager was very responsive for whatever we needed. Great to have the grill, kitchen and laundry available.

Great location - house was ok

House was clean upon arrival, and it had everything we needed. Location was amazing, just 3 houses down from the beach. The kids loved the beach toys! Overall we had a good stay and would stay again. The price was very affordable compared to other houses in the area, but you get what you pay for. House is a bit shabby and could use some work, but overall everything was functional and comfortable. The negatives:- I tried contacting Vacasa (The management company for this unit) before our stay to ask a question. They never got back to me with an answer. - Bathtub drain would not plug, and when we tried to run a bath for the kids a bunch of hair came floating up from the drain. So we stuck to showers after that- The washer and dryer are inconvenient to get to, and the dryer takes at least 2 cycles to dry the clothes (So you have to pay for it twice)- A man tried to access the unit we were staying in to do some work. There was a list of contact numbers in the garage and I tried contacting 3 different people listed. One hasn't worked for the company in 5 years, one was no longer in use, and the other never answered. We eventually figured out what unit he needed on our own, but the management company needs to improve.- The garage is VERY tight to get into if you have a larger vehicle, takes a bit of shimmying to get in.- Would recommend putting in a dehumidifier as everything felt damp in the houseBut overall, an enjoyable, clean and affordable stay!

Generally a fiasco. Upon arrival the door code did not work and it took several calls and maybe 30 mins to get the correct code. We had to wait outside with our luggage after a long day of traveling. There is NO street parking- only narrow alleyways. The garage door code did not work either. Mgr suggested opening manually but the pull was removed. It didn’t matter anyway bc the garage was occupied by a boat trailer, to the surprise of the property mgr. We were also told the garage did not fit large SUVs. Imagine our delight. There is no overnight public parking nearby (signs say they will tow). Property Mgr eventually got us permission to park in a neighbors spot, which is good bc we would have had to get a hotel. The inside of the property was no was no better. The screen door and latch were broken. Many outlets did not work. Not fun when it’s December, there’s no heat, and you can’t plug in the space heater. Walls are partially painted/painted over dirt. Ceiling, wall decor and fixtures are very dusty. Furniture is aged. I wouldn’t recommend. Pics online do not reflect condition of the property. (I took my own!) Definitely some editing there! Not worth the price whatsoever. This is a place for some kids to crash near the beach and nothing more. Must say that the property manager was very nice despite all of this.

Mike's Place review

Mike's Place is basic, nothing fancy, but it's super clean and quite close to the ocean. Communication by the host was excellent. But that said, they might consider a couple things for improvement: supply some coffee and/or tea for guests; and amend the check-in and check-out times. We're all used to 3pm check-in and 11am check-out times, but their 4pm check-in time and 10am check-out are a bit extreme and cuts 6 hours out of a 2 day booking. We were offered an early check-in, but had already made plans and were notified so late, that we weren't able to take advantage of it. Also, if it's cold, be aware, there are a couple of space heaters in the closets. Overall, a good experience

Our stay here was just fine. The place was clean, and the one small problem we had was addressed promptly. The location is fantastic, only about 50 steps to the beach. The unit has comfortable furniture/beds, and all the linens needed. A major plus is that there is convenient, free and secured parking for one car. The kitchen is not very well stocked. All the basics are there (cups/plates/silverware), but if you plan to cook, you may want to bring some measuring cups. etc! The feel of the place was very mediocre. The building is clearly very old, and it is showing. While the unit was clean on our arrival, there are parts that are just yellowing and rusting that can't be cleaned. The appliances are outdated but functional. It also feels very dark inside. There is very little natural light that filters into the unit since it is on the bottom level and surrounded by other buildings and foliage. It felt a bit like staying at a Holiday Inn - you have the required basics but nothing more. It was not a bad stay - just nothing special.

Great area. Was easy to walk to many shops and eating establishments. Easy to drive to area attractions. The unit is fully furnished and easily accessible. There was one of the beds in the two bed room was squeaky when slept on. Having a nice area to come back to made our vacation a great experience in San Diego.

Location!!

The location of this spot was excellent. Only 2 houses down from the beach, you can literally hear the waves with the windows open. They had every we needed, pans, silverware, beach toys, parking, tvs in each room, lovely patio, and comfy couches. It’s a little bit of an older home but Definitely worth the price! Only complaint would be the laundry. It worked 1x but swallowed out $4 when we tried again. Dryer works okay ish. And it was hard to find quarters around the area. There are plenty other Laundromats around if u really need to do laundry. Great stay!
