Villa with private pool & sea view for absolute privacy and serenity.

Harkia Villas is a complex of 2 luxurious villas, villa Faskomilia & villa Thimari, designed by its owner Argiri Vasilaki. Both villas offer a unique panoramic view, by hanging over the hill Anemomilos and overlooking the Cretan Sea. The villas are perfectly located; Close to sea and mountain, allowing the guests to explore destinations in the western and eastern part of the island.

The exterior: An outdoor & private swimming pool with 4 sun loungers encircled by flowers, olive trees and grass. There is a large balcony with a pergola table for 4-6 people and a private barbecue free to use whenever you want. On the first floor of the villa there is also a large balcony with a swing for 2 people and a table with 4 chairs to enjoy the beautiful mornings and charming colours of the evening. Private parking for up to 2 cars just next to the villa.

The interior: On the ground floor there is a large living room for up to 5 people, the kitchen, the dining area and one bedroom. The kitchen is fully equipped and has a large dining table. The bedroom has two single beds with coco-mat mattresses, a small balcony and a bathroom with bathtub.

Οn the first floor there is a bedroom with a large double bed with coco-mat mattress and pillows. In addition, there is a bathroom with shower/jacuzzi and a large balcony. with spectacular view on the Cretan Sea.

Harkia Villas are built at an altitude of 500 meters and offer an experience of tranquility and nature away from the mass tourist spots. On the other hand, our guests can find restaurants, supermarkets and cafes within a 10km radius. More specifically:

- Platanias area is 10km away. In Platanias there are shops, restaurants, bars, supermarkets, gas stations, local tavernas and more. In addition, there is a sandy beach.
- The town of Rethymno is 15km away.
- The monastery of Arkadi is 8 km away. It is an important historical site and one of the must-visit spots on the island.
- Ancient Eleftherna and its museum are 20 km away.
- Margarites village famous for its ceramics is 24 km away.
- Kastro Tavern is 7km away. It is located in the village Mesi with a very nice environment and delicious food.

Absolutely beautiful

We spent 10 days in the villa in August 16. It was just beautiful ! If you decide to have holidays there you will be in a peaceful environment in the mountains at less than 10 minutes by car from Rethymon. The view is just amazing! The villa is beautiful with everything you need for luxurious holidays. Then we have to talk about the Vasilaki family. We never met so nice people who were always there to advise us on where to go for interesting visits. When we arrived at the Villa a lunch was prepared for us with delicious beef cooked with tomatoes and With very good cheeses. After a long trip this was just delicious. We strongly recommend this villa if your are looking for a peaceful place far from the crowd and without any noise ( just the noise of the nature). Thank you so much again to all the Vasilaki family. Perfect little Hideaway

Das Haus liegt traumhaft ruhig in den Bergen. Alles ist wunderschön bepflanzt und liebevoll gestaltet. Wer Ruhe sucht, wird sie hier finden! Auch das Innere des Hauses ist geschmackvoll und es ist alles da, was man braucht. Die Gastgeber sind sehr herzlich! Es war ein sehr schöner Urlaub!

Excellent location if you enjoy peace and beautiful views

Beautiful villa, very well equipped with a very welcoming host, the host even met us half an hour away from the villa, in the middle of the night, to ensure we arrived safely. We were also greeted with a prepared meal and all important essentials, milk, water etc.. The villa was cleaned twice a week with the towels and linen changed. We cannot recommend Harkia Villas highly enough.

Perfect getaway

This villa is beautiful and the view is even better. The drive up from the coast is straight forward, even in the middle of the night! We had everything we needed, it’s a great place to chill by the pool for days on end but still managable to make day trips to some of the major sites. We had some very yummy food made by the owners one night and I would recommend doing this. We would definitely visit here again!

Exactly what my family’s was looking for, piece & quite up in the mountains away from the hustle & bustle. We stayed put every day by the pool, had our lunches ( lovely traditional Greek food) made & delivered by mum,(Vasos) Views are stunning, watching the eagles is great. Villa was 100% suited to our requirements. Steep little drive up to it but don’t let it put you off, it’s worth it. I definitely shall go back, hopefully later in the year. Auszeit vom Massentourismus

Die Gastgeber sind sehr freundlich. Bei unserer Spätanreise stand warmes Essen im Ferienhaus bereit, für welches wir sehr dankbar waren. Das Ferienhaus liegt in wundervoller Ruhe im Berg. Man hat einen sehr schönen Ausblick bis runter auf Rethymno und das Meer (ca. 20 km entfernt). Da wir Mitte Oktober angereist sind, war der schöne Kamin nicht nur Dekoration, sondern abends dringend notwendig. Vielen Dank an dieser Stelle nochmals für alles, wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt.

Erholung pur! Wir wollten gar nicht weg.

Wir haben unseren Aufenthalt in der Villa sehr genossen. Das Haus und der Pool sind einfach wunderschön und der Ausblick atemberaubend. Hier kann man wunderbar abseits des Touristen-Trubels entspannen. Das Haus und der Pool werden regelmäßig gereinigt. Wie schon von anderen beschrieben, erwartet einen nicht nur bei Ankunft ein leckeres zubereitetes Essen (Nach besonderen Allergien oder Ernährungsweisen wird vorher gefragt), sondern man kann auch von einer Karte für den nächsten Tage lokale Spezialitäten bestellen, die der Vater der Familie (Koch in Rente) liebevoll zubereitet. Die ganze Familie ist sehr freundlich und steht jederzeit für Fragen zur Verfügung. Wir hatten eine wunderschöne und total erholdame Zeit! Einzige Schattenseite, wenn man fernab vom Trubel ist, ist natürlich, dass die Anfahrt egal wohin immer etwas länger dauert. Das ist die Ruhe und Aussicht aber auf jeden Fall wert!

Tolles Ferienhaus in äußerst ruhiger Lage

Wir haben 14 Tage in der Villa Faskomilia verbracht. Der Empfand durch die Gastgeber am späten Abend war sehr herzlich. Ein schmackhaftes Essen, Wein und Olivenöl standen für uns bereit. Die Villa liegt in 500 m Höhe südlich von Rethymno am Berghang. Die Ruhe, die man dort genießen kann, ist himmlisch. Auf den insgesamt vier Terrassen findet man immer einen geeigneten Platz in der Sonne oder im Schatten. Wir haben häufig die Gelegenheit genutzt, uns von der Mutter des Gastgebers bekochen zu lassen. Sie bietet von einer kleinen Karte äußerst schmackhafte heimische Gerichte an. Die Villa wurde regelmäßig gereinigt. Der Aufenthalt dort ist nur zu empfehlen. Herzlichen Dank an Familie Vasilaki!

Pearl Anniversary Holiday

We wanted to stay somewhere special to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary. We chose well! The villa was like a home from home. The family looked after us so well with unexpected gifts of food and drink every few days. From things like casseroles, cakes. fish. olive oil, vegetables, wine and even homemade Raki. They were so hospitable. The villa was cleaned every 4 days to a very high standard and that included the swimming pool. It is worth mentioning that the broadband connection is 35Mbit both up and down and ultra reliable. The WiFi covers everywhere including the pool area. Its just a little weak in the top bedroom. Considering the remoteness of the location this is staggeringly good. We did enjoy the peace and the bells from the sheep and goats like everyone else who have stayed here. Do make sure you get a reasonably powerful car to cope with the steep drive from the road. We would highly recommend staying at this villa 100%. Enjoy!

Peace and Quiet

We have rented many villa's over the past few years, all around a similar budget and this was certainly one of the best we have been to. Great hosts, Lovely villa and pool; and if it’s peace and quiet you want this is definitely the place to be. It was our first time to Crete, which as an island was bigger than we had anticipated, so we didn’t get to see as much as we had planned. There are some nice beaches and if you like walking some great gorges to visit. The villa was actually better than the pictures portrayed, which is unusual! You obviously need a car to get there and the last 20 minutes driving is on mountain roads, but they are very quiet. The only note of caution I would make is that the final ramp up to the villa is quite steep, which can be a bit daunting the first time up but fine once you are used to it. Thanks Argiri, Eirini and Vaso for your hospitality (and especially the lovely pot of hot food on arrival).

A Slice of Paradise

What a fabulous holiday! This is the place to come if you want a relaxing holiday in a stunning setting. From the outset the communication with the owners was great and we chatted with Irini on Whatsapp, who was very helpful. On arrival we were greeted with a wonderful Greek meal in the villa that was delicious. You can order home cooked food that is delivered to the villa. We did this several times and would strongly recommend it. The setting of the villa has to be seen to be believed and the photographs do not do it justice. Situated in the mountains, it has stunning views of the mountains and the sea. The only noises were the clanging of goat bells and croaking of insects, making the whole experience the most chilled and relaxing holiday experience we have ever had - even our two teenagers were impressed! The villa itself was like well designed and comfortable, with everything that we needed during our stay. The stunning views can be enjoyed whilst eating outside or on the bedroom balconies. The infinity pool is very big for a two bedroom villa, enjoying the same views and the water quality was faultless. On top of this the owners made every effort to make the holiday as special as they could. It was meticulously maintained and they dropped off local treats that were delicious. The villa is 10/15 minutes from the nearest town so a car is essential. We did not find this a problem at all and the incredible setting more than made up for this. We found a beach 15 mins away that we practically had to ourselves, where there was great snorkelling. Rythamno old town is only 25 mins away and there is loads going on there. We could recommend this villa enough, it was our best ever villa holiday and we have already booked to back next year.

Schöne Villa mit Pool in super ruhiger Lage

Wir waren 9 tage in der Villa und haben den Aufenthalt sehr genossen. Insbesondere die ruhige Lage - es ist insbesondere nachts mäuschenstill - hat uns beeindruckt. Haus und Garten sind gut gepflegt. Spectacular Villa

The villa was a real delight to stay at during our vacation. We loved the breezes that moved up the nearby gorge daily delivering fresh breezes in the upper bedroom. The faint sound of goat and sheep were a delight in the evening and morning making the villa enchanting. The Vasilaki family were very attentive to us during our stay checking in with to see if we needed anything or if they could be of any help. The owners truly practiced the Cretean art of hospitality which we took in and enjoyed immensely. We would again like to thank Irini and Vaso for all their generosity especially the food (main courses, deserts, and appetizers) that they blesses us with during our visit. The villa is located towards the center of the island making it perfect to access the scenic sites on the island all within 1-4 hours. The villa is elevated near the top of a mountain range providing relief from the sometime oppressive humidity of coastline. Great views from the upper bedroom and patio of the spectacular colors of the eastern sky during sunrise. The villa is also located near supermarkets, bakeries, restaurants and a butcher shop. We plan to come back in the future and wouldn’t stay anywhere but the Vasilaki Villa.

Spectacular ... if Rethimno Crete is your destination of choice stay here!

The Harkia Villas are wonderful but no amount of research, words, excellent communication or zooming in of photos can prepare you for the amazing location. Set high on a hillside in a bleached gorge sit these two villas ... we stayed at Villa Faskomilia which is the one with the square pool and were delighted with our choice. We arrived on a late flight and as we knew it would be dark we accepted the owners kind offer to meet us about 5kms away and follow them to the villa... it was here in a supermarket carpark that we met Irini and Vaso who warmly welcomed us to Crete and who we then followed up the long and winding road to the villa. The villa is lovely, very well presented, clean. We were thrilled with the food basket, Olive oil, bottle of wine and Raki on the table ... we were so hungry! As we settled down in the comfy beds for the night little did we know that we would wake to the most amazing view ... and this is where the Harkia Villas become very special indeed. Set amongst Olive trees, fruit trees and flowers the villa has a sweeping view down to the sea that you could never tire of. There is no noise apart from the cicadas and the goat bells ... the odd car perhaps which you will see on the winding road before you hear it ... it's an incredibly peaceful place. The pool is fantastic and our teenagers loved it... we spent most of our time in or by the pool ... the sun loungers face the pool and the view... it was fantastic. We dragged ourselves away from the pool and view down to the town and the waterfront to swim in the sea, eat and buy food but also ordered from the Harkia Villas menu and was treated to a delivery meal made by Vaso of Cretan delights ... I recommend the Fried Aubergines and the Tzatziki... the rest of my carnivore family recommend the Lamb! The whole area of Reythimno is great, rich in history, interesting landscapes, lovely people and the sea is just divine. There are lots of places to eat and the Lidl supermarket has everything you need to fill the pantry... we also like the smaller independent supermarkets which we supported as well. We had a brilliant time and thought the hospitality of Argiri, Irini and Vaso was fantastic and who I don't think could have done any more to make our time at Harkia Villas as special as it was. Thank you! We highly recommend.

Es war ein wirklich fantastischer Aufenthalt. Anfangs wurden wir mit einem selbstgekochten Essen empfangen. Bei unserem nächsten Kretaurlaub würden wir gerne wieder in das Haus zurück.

Sehr freundlich, sehr sauber, und alles dran und drin

Fast 500m über dem Meer und mit fantastischer Aussicht liegen diese beiden Ferienhäuschen in den Bergen südlich von Rethymnon. Die Ausstattung ist hervorragend, und alles wird sehr gut gepflegt. Alle 2 Tage kam jemand zum saubermachen und mit frischen Handtüchern. Für den Pool kam ein Handwerker, und als eine Klospülung mal nicht wollte, wurde auch sofort repariert. Die Vermieter waren ganz besonders freundlich und immer wieder präsent. Sehr nett war die Versorgung mit einem Abendessen am Abend der Anreise, und auch ansonsten stand alles in der Küche bereit, was zum Überleben gebraucht wird incl. eigenem Olivenöl, Wein und Raki. Es gab Feuerholz für Kamin und Grill, eine eigene Waschmaschine, es gab vier verschiedene Terrassen für jede Gelegenheit. Sehr praktisch war auch die Möglichkeit, Essen bei den Vermietern zu bestellen, bei mindestens 1 Tag Vorlauf, da während unseres Aufenthalts an Ostern 2019 kein Lokal im nächsten Ort Harkias geöffnet hatte. Das Essen von Frau Vasilaki war aber sehr lecker! Die Grundstücksauffahrt ist recht steil und sollte mit dem Auto mit viel Schwung und leichtem Gepäck genommen werden :-). Wir kommen jedenfalls gerne wieder!!

Außergewöhnlich atemberaubend schön

Eine top gepflegte Villa mit allem Komfort in ruhiger Lage mit atemberaubend schöner Aussicht. Die Gastfreundlichkeit und Hilfsbereitschaft der Gastgeber war bemerkenswert. Wir haben uns in diesem gemütlichen Haus sehr wohl gefühlt und kommen gerne wieder zurück. Strände, Geschäfte, tolle TaVerben und interessante Orte sind -Mietwagen oder zumindest Fahrräder vorausgesetzt- problemlos zu erreichen. Tolle Insel, schöne Gegend, super Haus und herausragende Gastgeber. Von uns gibt es die maximale Punktzahl. Vielen Dank 👍👍👍

Wonderfully Relaxing

We had a wonderfully relaxing holiday at Villa Faskomilia. The villa is beautifully appointed with everything you could possibly need. The beds are comfy, the pool is large, the outside eating area is cool and shady and the views of the mountains and sea are so peaceful. The upstairs balcony has a swing seat which was my favourite spot. Lovely for reading in the early morning sunshine or for playing cards during the evening. The owners were lovely. There was a meal waiting for us on arrival together with a bottle of wine, water, eggs and other essentials. It was so delicious that we ordered 3 more meals during our holiday - all delicious. For other food, there are lots of supermarkets in Platanes (on the coast) about 15 minutes drive away. I would thoroughly recommend these lovely villas for a relaxing holiday.

Amazing Peace and Views

Stayed Aug 2018. For total peace, seclusion and relaxation this villa is perfect. We had a lovely welcome from Irini and her mother, along with a delicious prepared meal, fruit, wine, eggs, bread and olive oil. We also ordered a home cooked meal one evening which was lovely - the chocolate cake went down very well. If we needed anything at all Irini was very quick to reply via whatsapp or in person. The pool was great, a lot bigger than any other villa I researched and with the surrounding noise of just bees, and birds it was a great place to relax. We spent most evenings around the pool watching bats dip in and around the pool, which was pretty cool. When the sun faded we could sit up on the roof terrace and views. There is a small village just up the road with just a taverna, the owners of which are very welcoming - we had a meal here on our last night and it was more like a banquet, most delicious. Owners gifted us eggs from their hens too. If you want to get out and about it really is a trek down the mountain, we had a lovely taxi driver and also hired a car for a couple of days to go sight seeing. When I booked I thought we’d manage withought a car but it really is essential. We visited Rethymnon, some pottery villages around Margarites, the monastery at Arkadi and a most amazing gorge - Kourtaliotiko with waterfall. This is definitely not for the faint hearted or if you’re not fit - around 1500 steps but if you make it, it really is amazing we navigated over the rocks and went paddling in the fall water. It comes out at Plakias beach but we didn’t venture that far. Our first experience of Crete was great, people very friendly and roads etc not overly busy which helps when driving on the opposite side to what you’re used to. Lovely villa, lovely island.
