Spacious rooms, sleeping accommodations, well stocked kitchen with all the necessaries for preparing food for large groups, outdoor activities available - it seemed there was something for everyone. Hosts were very friendly and accommodating. Nothing bad to say about this trip!
We just finished our 40 people family reunion at the Cub River Lodge and had an absolutely wonderful time! The place was big enough that we could spread out so we weren't on top of each other. We loved the big conference room. It's where we ate our meals, played board games, puzzled, had a talent show, danced, held church services, and played some moving games. The weekend we went was pretty hot (about 90 degrees) and we needed to be careful to keep windows open at night and closed during the day. But if we did that well the air conditioning units and swamp coolers kept things nice and comfortable. Denice, the manager, was wonderful to work with- quick to get back to us and just really kind. She even gave us a little extra time to check out. Such a sweetheart.
A couple of notes for people considering this location. First, some of these reviews mention a hot tub and swimming pool. Maybe those reviews are just outdated but there are neither at this cabin. Second, You need to know that this cabin is attached to an RV campground and right next to a popular restaurant. There is no private outdoor area attached to the cabin. When we first arrived I was very surprised and felt like this listing really misrepresented the location. The pictures show such beautiful open mountain land. But when we arrived on a Friday around 5:30 the place was hopping with lots of traffic in and out for the restaurant and a packed RV campground. The office of the campground is even attached to the cabin. I was really disappointed.
Having said that, as our large group settled in we found this was still just a perfect location for what we wanted. We spent most of our time indoors, but with the heat we likely would have anyway. The restaurant is only open Thurs-Sat evenings and so the traffic we first were worried about was very short lived. The restaurant also owns a decent piece of grassy land and when we asked they let us play on it during the day. And we still enjoyed the volleyball net, tetherball, and large swing in the RV campground- just didn't feel like we could let the kids loose with strangers right there. Like I said, I'd recommend this to any group with lots of kids- the cabin and Denise were WONDERFUL. I just wish I'd had accurate expectations about the surrounding location.
Thanks for such a memorable weekend Denise!
Recently we stayed at the Cub River Guest house and RV Camping Park. This was our 50th anniversary and we rented the Guest house with my 6 daughters and their families. There were around 35 of us and the Guest house could have held more people. Even though it was very hot the weekend we stayed and the place had a Swamp cooler in the conference room, and a small AC in the TV room, it was a wonderful experience, also here were lots of fans and that was good. The Conference room is what made the place for us, we did dancing, games and karaoke at night. The Guest house was clean and all the cooking supplies we needed were available to us. We also went floating down the Narrows which was only about 40 min away, the grandkids love it. They also enjoyed the pool. The Guest house furnishing were not new but gave the place a lot of character. The young kids loved sleeping in loft and the older kids really liked sleeping in the Conf room and TV room, there were lots of pads available to us, which was really nice. Also Preston was only about 15 min away which made it nice to go get food or ice cream treats. We brought our trailer and slept in it and had full hookups, so we could go to bed earlier then the rest of the kids. This was very good for us and we were right next to the guest house. We put chairs outside around the trees and did a lot of visiting outside where it was a little cooler. Denise was really easy to work with and we all plan to come back again. For a Family reunion this is a perfect place to stay
I was looking for a cabin large enough for my family of 40-plus people. I found The Cub River Guesthouse near Preston, Idaho, just two hours away from where I live. I wanted to see the place before booking, so I drove to the cabin. The owner, Denise Avery spent about two hours just walking the grounds, and showing me through the lodge and the guesthouse. I booked the guesthouse while I was there.
Some of my family members arrived almost an hour before check-in time, but they were allowed to move in anyway. Fifteen of my grandchildren slept in the loft, and loved it! It was THEIR space. The multi-purpose room was big enough that we could have our meals together in the same room. That rarely happens! We enjoyed the large swimming pool nearby, and the hot tub, which was right off our porch. We were disappointed that the near-by horseback riding was not available while we were there, but we found other things to do. Some of our group went hiking, others rode dirt bikes, and many of them played volleyball. We were wishing we had a fire pit close to our cabin, instead of having to take our chairs and everything else to a fire pit in the campground. We had a hard time getting all of the cleaning done by 10:00 A.M., but we were allowed some extra time to finish, and I got my deposit back.
If I could make a suggestion, it would be that the owner invest in all new sheets. If the queen-size sheets were all the same color, and the twin-size sheets another color, it would be less confusing when trying to find the right fit. The top sheet and the bottom sheet would always match, and It would be easier to do the laundry because there would be no sorting necessary. Denise did whatever she could to make our stay very enjoyable, and I would recommend the Cub River Lodge and Guesthouse to anyone needing a place for a large group gathering.
