Here you will find The Boot Inn, which is a traditional family run Pub & Restaurant sitting in the centre of the unspoilt village of Calstock lying right next to the Tamar estuary steeped in history and with quirky cottages aligning its narrow but picturesque streets. You are able to walk from this village along the river to the National Trust gardens at Cotehele.

You can venture on the mainland railway for a trip into Cornwall visiting the seaside towns of Looe or St Ives plus many more places of interest. Travelling into Devon you could alight at either Paignton or Torquay where you will find the Model Village at Babbacombe. Feel like a giant as you step through the small entrance and the vast miniature world opens up before you. Explore 4 acres of award-winning gardens showcasing hundreds of uniquely hand-crafted model scenes, vehicles & people.
The Model Village portrays a generic version of Britain through the decades with some well-known landmarks. There's many hidden puns, fun scenes and lots of humour for all to enjoy.
Try out the famous and award winning tour which is the best way to explore South Devon! Includes steam train, river boat and bus visiting the quaint towns of Paignton, Dartmouth and Totnes. and the round robin bus tour.

Brunel Boathouse is on the doorstep of history itself with Isambard Kingdom Brunel's Royal Albert Bridge. A remarkable railway bridge spanning the River Tamar between Plymouth, Devon, and Saltash, Cornwall. Designed by the renowned engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, this iconic structure features two 455-foot (138.7 m) lenticular iron trusses soaring 100 feet (30.5 m) above the water. The bridge also includes conventional plate-girder approach spans, resulting in a total length of 2,187.5 feet (666.8 m) The Royal Albert Bridge has been a sightseeing attraction since its completion in 1859 and has appeared in various artworks, photographs, and even on the UK £2 coin. Also nearby is a granite memorial stone that is positioned in the gardens, there are two identical signs and an interpretation panel on site to commemorate the embarkation of US soldiers of the V and VII Corps for the D-Day landings of World War II.

Around the corner from the property is a bus stop for a trip into the centre of Plymouth, plus local taxis service available.
The waterfront city of Plymouth is set in one of the finest locations in the country, it stands right on the border between Devon and Cornwall overlooking the spectacular waters of Plymouth Sound to the south, while the remote beauty of Dartmoor National Park nudges its margins to the north. Both Devon and Cornwall have long been cherished as holiday destinations with fabulous beaches, stunning unspoilt countryside, historic town and many more famous attractions such as the Eden Project. Plymouth city centre has a pedestrianised shopping centre with its undercover shopping centre. It has a large modern multi-screen cinema complex and the well known Theatre Royal which regularly plays host to The Birmingham Royal Ballet in addition to the musicals, plays, comedies and operas that are staged throughout the year. In contrast, The Barbican offers a more cosmopolitan atmosphere being Plymouth city’s oldest quarter. The area overlooks a pretty harbour and includes a variety of small independent shops, a number of wine bars, restaurants and cafes with open air seating.

Plenty to see in Plymouth such as the historic Royal William Yard, the Barbican, Hoe and coastal paths. There is a ferry crossing from Cremyl to Mount Edgcumbe which is an excellent area to explore. The National Trust has numerous locations within easy distance. Ideal to spend an afternoon at Buckland Abbey, the home of Sir Francis Drake with an excellent depiction of his life.

Not only is Brunel Boathouse ideal for holidays and professional stays, it is ideally located for the University, Marjons Graduation ceremonies plus the Naval passing out parades at Raleigh. Close by to the Naval Base, Babcock and for the events held at the Life Centre/Central Park.

The property was warm and welcoming with a great view of the Tamar river and bridges. It is an ideal location for exploring Devon and Cornwall. We had a great time staying there. The electric car charger was very handy. Elaine the host was very helpful and her communication was excellent. We would not hesitate to recommend this property to friends and family.

We stayed for 4 nights. Comfortable property suitable for a couple. Welcome fudge was a nice touch. May not be suitable for those with mobility issues as there are 2 sets of stairs. Located very close to the river bank and directly underneath the historic Brunel Railway Bridge. There was noise from the trains but not too intrusive.Things we felt could be improved were, the blind over the porthole window in the bedroom. It was too small to block out light adequately. Would have liked another bedside lamp. We would stay again but things we missed, an airing line on the balcony, a teapot and a sieve.

Cute location

We had a lovely time, Elaine and her husband were very welcoming. The accommodation had everything you needed. We sat and watched the boats go by from the balcony. Walked to the local pub which was very nice and over the bridge to meet some friends. Cute location good value for money.

Excellent Ocean City Base

The perfect base for our week in Plymouth. Elaine was easy to contact and provided all the information we needed. The cottage was very well equipped and had a lovely view of the River Tamar. Stayed here to be near to my son. Was suitably located and clean on arrival. Lovely, cosy and homely and Elaine was very helpful up to and including our stay. Unique location

Small but perfectly formed cottage in a wonderfully unique location directly under Brunel’s iconic railway bridge and adjacent to the River Tamar. Good facilities in the cottage but little clothes hanging space. Very comfortable sitting room with lovely view of the river and its sail boats.

Underneath the arches! A superbly situated flat, overlooking the Tamar across to Saltash.

The comforting sound of trains running over Brunel's Tamar Bridge, a regular weekday bus into Plymouth, the gentle movement of the boats moored in the river and the turning of the tide make for an ideal stay. The stairs are a tad steep but are worth the effort. Bathroom is, downstairs and bedroom up. Lovely, local "hosts" and kind welcome "gifts" add a kind touch.

Brunel Boathouse

My wife and I enjoyed our stay here it was very relaxing and the locals made us feel welcome at the local watering hole. If i could just say the boathouse could do with a couple of pint glasses as we had nothing to put our beer in. That was our only complaint but is was just a minor complaint. We would definitely stay there again. Thank you.

Position perfect

A beautiful little property positioned perfectly for exploring both near and far. Access to major roads was easy for whichever direction we chose to go. Bus stop at the door for anything close, including the city centre. Hosts were terrific, after a little problem at the very start of our stay. Problem was fixed quickly with supreme good grace and humour.

Great stay. Lovely little touches left by the host e.g milk, croissants etc. Really nice Boathouse and nice and clean. Ideal location for visiting Cornwall as just over the bridge. Lovely views. We had a great stay at Elaine's property and she was very friendly and informative. It was my 50th birthday whilst we visited and she left me a card and cake, there was also a delicious box of fudge 😋 I would highly recommend staying at this property to anyone I know and hopefully stay there again ourselves in the future 😀

Unusual and interesting little Boathouse

We had a lovely relaxing stay in The dog-friendly Boathouse, which included our own dog Teddy, and which is beside the River Tamar in an interesting position right beneath the Tamar Bridge. No problems BUT I would say that if you are OLD people like us, (in our seventies and a bit creaky) there are lots of (steep) stairs which we had difficulty on. I would have liked to have seen a schematic drawing of The Boathouse before visiting; similar to what you get with a caravan. Of course, the local roads are very steep for walking too, but I was already aware from Google Maps of that. I enjoyed their choice of art on the walls but perhaps a little shelf on the wall in the bathroom might have helped. Perhaps I took too many toiletries ! Also, a 2-way light to go up to bed in the roof, then turn it off from upstairs. I used a torch. The hosts were both friendly, and interesting and helpful and when the shower power tripped out, about 7:30 in the morning I phoned their mobile number and it was sorted within 2 minutes. There are plenty of facilities in The Boathouse, including local information, soap and a lovely box of local fudge. There is a really fantastic view sitting on the balcony. It was spectacular, and you can watch the boats on the river. Teddy spent his time often on the fluffy royal blue mat beside the balcony glass doors. I'd recommend the Boathouse to anyone and I'd love to visit again.

Beautiful spot on the river with lovely pub just a short walk

Had a lovely time at Brunel Boat House. Lovely views and pub a short walk away It was a shame you couldn’t walk far along the river although you could explore Saltash over the bridge but we didn’t get round to it. We did get a bus to Plymouth waterfront to have a look round But otherwise took the car to the coast or Tamar Valley for a bit of walking. Shame we didn’t get the train to Looe which would have been nice but we had to return home early So although it was a lovely area we did do a lot of driving about
