the wooder house: charming haven in the woods, family-friendly & dog-friendly

Welcome to the Wooder House, a private, comfortable home centered on 38 acres in the heart of Virginia's beautiful Nelson County. Our home is perfect for families, friends, and couples looking for a cozy haven to chill together in the woods. Your pups will love it too! Our favorite inside feature: huge windows in the common area that let you enjoy the outside views from the inside.

NEARBY: The amazing offerings of Nelson County (and beyond!) are all just a short drive away! Breweries (12min+), cideries (15min+), wineries (8min+), Wintergreen resort (~25min), so many hiking options to choose from, and more!

KITCHEN: Fully stocked for all your food and drink prep needs - cooking tools, pans, and other essentials (spices, oil, etc), drip AND french press coffee maker options, blender, crockpot, hand mixer, a grill outside, serving dishes, cocktail shaker, and plenty of space to store your food.

BEDROOMS: 3 bedrooms with queen beds, and another with 2 twins (day bed and a trundle). One bedroom (queen) is on the first floor, and the other bedrooms are all on the second floor.

BATHROOMS: 2 bathrooms - 1 with a shower/no tub (first floor) and 1 with a luxurious window-side tub/no shower (second floor). A sweet outdoor shower is also available from roughly May to October.

*Note: While our home can sleep 8, we suggest a max of 6 adults.

FIRE: Inside there is a cozy wood burning stove, and outside there is a smokeless fire pit set up. We provide firewood as well as fire starters (and s'mores sticks!).

ELECTRONICS/TECH: Great Wifi for those who want it! We also have a discreet 80in projector screen on the first floor w/AppleTV, 50in FireTV on the third floor (in the loft), Netflix included, bluetooth speakers, and a record player. Enjoy our carefully cultivated vinyl collection while you take in the view from inside. =o)

LOFT: We call the third floor "the loft." In this open room (no door), you'll find space for yoga (2 mats, blocks, and a strap provided), a dedicated desk for work, more books/games/puzzles, a small couch for reading and relaxing, a queen futon (extra sleeping space if needed), and a 50in FireTV. This space was designed to be versatile and let folks spread out!

KIDS: A kid-targeted room with 2 twin beds also has a hidden nook with toys, books, and games, as well as blackout curtains and a sound machine. A pack-n-play is also available for the littles. There are step stools in both bathrooms, two high chair/booster options, and kid-friendly plastic or stainless steel plates/cups.

*Please note though, parents of babies and toddlers, some features to be mindful of: The house has 2 sets of stairs and there are no baby gates. An unprotected wood stove is centered inside the house and there is an unprotected fire pit outside.*

OUTSIDE: Enjoy cozy patio furniture on the deck, or settle into one of the 6 Adirondack chairs around the the fire. Bring your s'mores supplies! =o) We also have a gas grill for your BBQ goals. We provide both firewood and gas for the grill. A sweet outdoor shower is available from May to October.

Note: We are working on developing our trails, including our private trail to the Rockfish River. While we think it's a nice walk, the trail is not well maintained - explore the woods at your own risk.

DOGS: Courteous pup family members are welcome. You know your pet best! We provide couch covers, towels for wet paws, bowls, and more. =o) Nelson County is very dog friendly - perfect for bringing your pals along! If you plan to leave your dog in the house alone though, please bring a crate they are comfortable in. Note that other pets (cats, etc.) are not permitted.
