We toured the Big Bend area and stayed almost a week with another couple. We had snow and ice which did not bother us at all as it was beautiful.
The hotel, however, was simply not prepared even there were many weather forecasts regarding the weather conditions. The restaurant and bar were closed and the shops in the hotel were closed. Add to this the elevator was not working and she sent us to the second floor without a second thought. When we balked, only then did she offer assistance from an employee. My husband did most of the heavy lifting (with a shoulder replacement and 70+ years old). She seemed completely overwhelmed by the weather...did not offer any restaurant / bar suggestions and basically, we were checked in and on our own. For an upscale hotel which we were obviously prepared to pay for, this was to me poor planning.
Only after thinking about what we were paying for, did we ask for an upgrade which she should have automatically offered as the hotel was far from full due to weather conditions. Additionally, the original room reserved for us was small and had no real shower, just a curtain in a corner of the bathroom. I would go back to experience the full deal, but I was disappointed that hotel management did not do better. Even hot chocolate in the lobby or something more creative would have helped since they offered no restaurant suggestions, etc.
