À propos de cet hébergement

Roselyn Cottage - sleeps 6 guests in 3 bedrooms

  • This is a stunningly beautiful part of Cornwall famed for its tranquility. As well as the village of Lerryn itself with its riverside green, excellent pub and café/deli and scenic walks along the riverbank, the location makes a great base to explore South East Cornwall. Visit the Eden Project, the historic eighteenth century harbour of Charlestown featured in Poldark, the sunning beaches of Lantic Bay and Polkerris, Restormel castle, the Lost Gardens of Heligan, historic Lostwithiel and of course the delightful seaside town of Fowey.

    Inside Roselyn Cottage

Roselyn is set back from the quiet village road and is approached up the garden path to the front door. This is flanked on either side by an elegant paved terrace, which catches the afternoon sun, and has a café-style table and chairs. You'll step through traditional half-glazed stable doors into the bright and airy open-plan living area, with a comfy sofa, vintage Ercol easy chairs, a contemporary wood burner and smart TV. Also in this space is a dining table for six and a beautiful hand-crafted kitchen. This has a large central island with granite worktop, a Neff hob and oven, and is generously equipped for keen cooks. Downstairs is also a utility room and WC.

Upstairs you have three comfortable bedrooms, two of these are doubles which look out over the front garden towards the village — one of them has a lovely en suite bathroom with a walk-in waterfall shower. The third bedroom is a twin. All have excellent deep-sprung mattresses. Upstairs is also a contemporary family bathroom with bath and shower.

The décor throughout is a blend of lovingly curated antique, mid-century vintage, and up-cycled furniture set against a backdrop of original stripped pine floors, subtle paint finishes, and carefully chosen contemporary and heritage fabrics, prints and artworks.

    Outside and in the village

The main garden is to the rear of the property and is laid out over three terraces. The centrepiece is the Finnish hot tub, which can accommodate three to five people. It's fired using natural wood, and the water heats remarkably quickly. The upper terrace of the garden is lawned and has garden seating and a classic barbecue for al fresco dining. Please note that because the garden is terraced this property may be unsuitable for small children. Please contact us if you would like to discuss further.

The location of Roselyn Cottage in the heart of Lerryn means that the little village and all it offers will become very much part of your memorable holiday experience. Within a few paces of your garden gate is the very wonderful Lerryn River Stores which is remarkably well-stocked not only with kitchen essentials but with cheeses, meats, Cornish gins and ales, oven-fresh bakery products, excellent local pasties and fab ice creams. You can also get logs for the hot tub here! Cream teas and other nourishments are served inside and outside of the café and can be enjoyed by the river. Opposite Roselyn is also is the 16th century Ship Inn, a good traditional pub serving hearty food including locally caught fish. The beautiful Lerryn area and riverbanks here are reputed to be the inspiration for Kenneth Grahame's The Wind in the Willows."

The essence of this area is ‘messing about on the river', and you will find that your body clock tunes in to the ebb and flow of the tides. Roselyn comes complete with two sit-on kayaks with buoyancy aids and paddles, to help with river exploration. You can also walk along the creek and beside the Fowey River through stunning woodlands to the tiny hamlet of St Winnow, used as a film location in the original screen adaptations of Poldark (in the 1970s!) and home to the legendary Angie's Kiosk serving farm-reared meats, home-baked cakes and ice creams — it's well worth the walk there and back (or short drive).

If you tire of the river, the sea is close by. The beaches in this area are non-commercial, and the best one, Lantic Bay, is accessed along the coast path — along the way are stunning views, and truly spectacular landscape. Note there are no lifeguards so enter the sea with due care. Lantic Bay also has the rare benefit of being dog-friendly all year round. Further along the coast you will also find little Lansallos Beach. In contrast, idyllic Polkerris beach, slightly further away and east of Fowey is one of Cornwall's best and most well-equipped beaches. It offers all manner of watersport activities as well as a café, pub, restaurant and lifestyle shopping. You have two neighbouring towns; the nearby 12th century Stannary town of Lostwithiel will be your go-to for convenience shopping and also has excellent independent retailers, cafés and restaurants. Fowey itself — an essential visit — is best reached via the Bodinnick ferry (you can take a car over or park in Bodinnick and go across as a foot passenger).

    Things we love…

We think Roselyn Cottage represents all that's best about this magical area of Cornwall. It's steeped in history and the sensitive restoration has brought out the beauty of the stonework and character of the building. Of course, we love the hot tub and it's rewarding to spend time with loved ones, soaking and conversing, knowing that your moment of luxury is warmed by nature. The spirit of the timeless Fowey River flows through this area; home to Daphne Du Maurier, host to countless sea-birds, and hideaway for pirates, smugglers, artists and lovers. The essence of Roselyn is time slowing down to keep pace with the tides rather than the clock, the antidote to hectic modern living.
