Mornings start on the covered patio, where blue French doors open onto a brick courtyard and a cushioned outdoor sofa under the pergola. Past it, the garden opens up with lounge chairs beneath a sprawling canopy of branches and a bistro table next to a patio heater for cool coastal evenings. It's a good spot to shake off the sand and stay out until the stars come up.

Inside, the living room pairs a mustard-yellow sofa and a TV with a laid-back beach feel, and the dining table seats six beneath an oversized, vividly colored painting. The kitchen is set up for real cooking with a gas range, stainless steel appliances, and bright white cabinetry, and a washer and dryer make longer stays simple.

Both bedrooms have queen beds. The first has an upright piano in the corner, so bring your sheet music or just play around before dinner. The second doubles as a workspace, with a desk by the window for anyone checking in with the office. Two full bathrooms, each with a shower and tub combo, mean no one is waiting their turn after a day in the sand, and the home welcomes up to six guests.

The neighborhood is residential and calm, tucked between La Jolla Village and Bird Rock. Palomar Avenue runs straight west to Windansea, the stretch of coast known for its palm-thatched surf shack, sandstone ledges, and front-row sunsets. Bird Rock's coffee shops and cafés are about a mile south, and La Jolla Village's boutiques, galleries, and restaurants are a short drive north, along with the sea lions at La Jolla Cove and kayaking at La Jolla Shores.
