This property exceeded all of our expectations. A spotlessly clean private paradise. Sitting at the pool watching birds and the sloths in the morning was a great wat to start the day. Close enough to town to be convient, but far enough away to feel like you're in the rain forest. Could not have picked a better spot.
The place was quiet and beautiful. We spent the mornings and some afternoons enjoying the pool, jacuzzi and backyard. We saw a family of monkeys while enjoying, a sloth and many beautiful birds. I would recommend a car as this place is about a 17 minute drive from La Fortuna. Definitely worth the drive!!! We will definitely be back.
This place was amazing! The outside pool and hottub area was a hit with our teens. The guy cleaning the pool pointed out a sloth hanging in the trees right in the backyard. We also spotted another one the next day. I cant believe I can say I relaxed in the hottub watching a sloth hang from a tree. It was the coolest thing! It is about 15 minutes from town but I would have rather been there than in town. La Fortuna was way to busy for us. I would 100% stay there again!
This home was awesome. Very clean, beautiful tropical surroundings when sitting out on the expansive deck by the pool and hot tub. The bedrooms and bathrooms are very spacious, and the beds were comfortable. The house is about 10 minutes from La Fortuna which I preferred for the peace and quiet. Highly recommend!
Our stay was amazing. I could have stayed another week. Most relaxing stay weâve had anywhere. We loved that it was a little ways away (10-15min) from the busy touristy town of La Fortuna. Itâs a gem. The sodas nearby are delicious and so affordable. There wasnât anything we didnât love. Now think I need an infinity pool and a pool guy back home. Haha. And thereâs a sloth!
Property overall is amazing! The location is wonderful with wildlife right outside the door. But if lacks sufficient furniture to seat everyone and doesnt have dressers or any bedroom furniture to unpack for longer stays. There is a lovely town to the left away from La Fortuna with a meat market, bakery, and fruit and vegetable stand that are wonderful!
Arnaldo did a great job communicating with us before our arrival and even sent detailed check in instructions with videos, however, the electronics were still a bit tricky to figure out but we did do it.
Other than that, the place was amazing. They have everything you could think of including a swimsuit spinner to dry your suits faster.
The space was perfect for our family of 3. The outdoor living space was like a resort of our own. And from that deck, we saw the 3 toed sloth eat and move branches, we saw iguanas, frogs, & birds of all sorts. The grounds keeper was always excited to point out the sloths to us. There were 2 on the property the week we stayed.
We knew the house was a little out of town and it had an amazing view and jungle like feel. It did make meals out a little complicated when doing tours but we just ate at the house on the days as we didnât want to drive the curvy road at night. And one tour company wanted to charge us an extra $40 to pick us up at the house. We had a rental car so we just met them at their office instead.
Overall, we will stay here again if we ever return to La Fortuna. We loved it so much we didnât want to leave and head to our next town. And when we did arrive at the next place, we really missed Casa Colibri Esmeralda.
This house was a wonderful choice for 3 nights in Arenal. The setting couldn't have been more magical, with a large deck with an infinity pool backing up to a jungle with a stream flowing through. It was so nice to have the private pool, which was incredibly clean. The 2 bedroom house was plenty spacious for 4 adults, one of which uses a wheelchair. Absolutely no issues with accessibility, including with the bathrooms. The kitchen was large and well-equipped and the ceilings were high. There was not a ton of seating inside, but we didn't want to spend time inside anyway. It was more enjoyable to watch for birds and other creatures in the backyard jungle. There is a resident sloth, which was exciting. Our hosts were very nice and attentive. We did have a little issue with the electronic code for the front door on the first day, but it got resolved quickly. The only slight drawback was that it felt a little further from our planned activities than I expected, but I would still stay there if I were to do it again.
Spectacular home with a pool outside of La Fortuna. Not within walking distance to stores or restaurants which was not ideal. Otherwise the house was gorgeous and the pool was out of this world.
Do not try to find the house at night. We tried during the day and the directions from the listing sent us 15 min away from the home. We were able to contact the host and eventually find the property but it wasnât easy.
Otherwise I would recommend.
The home was beautiful & we all loved the pool. The surprise bonus was getting to see the baby sloth on the property. We appreciate the property owner taking the time to find the sloth and walk us over to see him. Our teenage son also loved they had poker (chips and all) and so we played that each night we were there. We highly recommend this property!
The introductory videos and pamphlet were a huge help. Wonderful recommendation for a local guy who made our trip equally successful. He was even able to communicate with our VRBO host and arranged for a last-minute dinner to be brought to the home. It was delicious homemade Costa Rican food with an accessible swimming pool and we even saw a sloth in the backyard. I would absolutely recommend this location. It was safe and a perfect part of La Fortuna.
This house is certainly beautiful - however, we had a few relatively significant issues. Upon arrival (at midnight), the key lock did not work and we could not access the rental. A locksmith eventually came during our stay and fixed the lock, but we had to rely on leaving a door/window open for 1.5 days to ensure we had access. A few days later, we woke up to the water turned off without warning. This may be the water companies fault, but we were not notified and had to shift our plans as it was out for 5-6 hours. Arnaldo was very responsive, but overall these challenges really put a damper on our 4 day stay.
We loved this house! The pool in fantastic. So quiet and peaceful. Loved having the forest in our backyard. Kitchen is large and well equipped. Beds are very comfortable. We saw tucans and many other birds from the pool. Highly recommend! Would stay here again. Pura Vida!
This was such a nice stay. The home was great and very well built and stocked with all you need. it was so nice to sit outside, enjoy the pool and the lush surroundings. The care taker came and showed us the local sloth and we had a nice walk around the property. There are 2 other rentals but they are all very well separated. You opulent tell anyone else was around and each back yard:pool area was very private. We lived out time there.
Very clean house, about 15 min drive from town. Not easy to find at night the first time. House and pool are great. Wish for more seating inside. Everything was so clean pool included. Quite location. Friendly gentle man showed us sloths on the property. We truly enjoyed our stay.
This two bedroom home was very comfortable. Everything that you need was supplied with the exception of food. The views from the backyard were exquisite. The backyard pool with a negative edge was very inviting and was cleaned every day. A plus...spotted a sloth in a tree right behind the house. Highly recommend this property.
The home is beautiful and just out of town so a car is needed. Very clean and well maintained. We had limited cell coverage so had a hard time accessing our email for the check in code-so suggest to print/write down before you arrive. The groundskeeper was very friendly and showed us 2 sloths! We would definitely stay here again!
We stayed in several locations in a recent trip to Costa Rica. This was by far the nicest property we stayed at. Having a river behind the property made for a relaxing background noise. A lychee grove outside of the house was an added treat. An endless supply of towels was appreciated. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook with.
There were a few ants around but being in the jungle you want to see wildlife, not just sloths and monkeys.
We would gladly stay here again!
Overall fantastic house for a family of 4. Great pool -- spent a number of afternoons by the pool after hiking during the day. Nice and private with excellent view. Good place for spotting birds. Kitchen and bathrooms are very nice.
Pretty close to La Fortuna, about a 15 minute drive. Takes about 35 minutes to drive to the Arenal park. Grocery store within 5 minutes drive.
AC, laundry and wifi all worked great.
Highly recommended.
We just left La Fortuna after spending 4 nights at Casa Calibri Esmeralda. I cannot say enough great things about this property!! It was absolutely stunning. From the time we walked in, we were amazed. There are 3-4 properties here but all individual homes and far enough apart to be private. The infinity pool overlooked total green space. Large trees where we saw a toucan and other birds. Every morning a groundskeeper cleaned the pool (before we even woke up). Kitchen was well equipped. Filtered water and ice was great! The patio table was large and covered so if it rained we could still sit outside. There was a pool bathroom as well. Everything was brand new in the house. The location was great too. Far enough from La Fortuna to feel like you are in the rainforest, but close enough for all the restaurants, sodas, and tours. We even were able to get restaurant recommendations from the host (Trevesia restaurant). Finally, our last morning, the groundskeeper took us to see a sloth in a tree on the property. He was so low in the tree we could almost touch him! Super excited about that!! Amazing end to our time in La Fortuna.
Short version: Clean, safe, comfortable, spacious, beautiful home. Highly recommend.
Arnaldo welcomed us on arrival and made sure we got onto the property and into the house okay, provided list of markets and medical resources nearby, responded promptly to questions, helped us figure out sightseeing, even though we werenât using a tour, even came to our rescue when we accidentally locked ourselves out at about 9:30 pm!
The home: Beautiful. Kitchen has huge table and stocked with everything you could need. Cold, filtered, water from the fridge was the best! Never would have thought to watch for in a listing but will now! Both bedrooms have ensuites with many caring touches. Loved the hummingbirds (colibrĂs) on the bath towels.
The pool: Delicious. Best place to listen to the jungle sounds at night or hang out with the grazing cows in the am. Also loved the shaded spaces to relax beside the pool.
The location: Perfect. Short drive to La Fortuna but far enough away to be out of the chaos. Also enjoyed the friendly dogs roaming the property (shoutout to Lulu!)
Things to know: occasionally people working on grounds near Pool. We had lots of space and privacy, but if you want completely secluded, this isnât for you. We loved the chatty dogs and the roosters, but pack earplugs if youâre a light sleeper.
Fragrance Allergies: Much better than most! Call ahead and ask Arnaldo to take the scented plug-in (bathroom) as far away as possible, at least 2-3 days before arrival.
We loved it here! Would absolutely stay again. Thank you Arnaldo and family!
