Located at Mile Post 7, this oceanside beach box cottage named ‘The Mermaid Shanty’ is located just 2 blocks from the best lifeguarded beach on the central Outer Banks of North Carolina. The first thing that will catch your eye is the inviting screened in front porch, just waiting for you to sit and watch the sun come up & sip coffee or enjoy an afternoon cocktail! Sunbathe on the back deck in the afternoon or grill food by the fire pit at night. This home is a perfect getaway for families with children, couples, or a guys/girls week! Quiet street, 2 blocks to beach access, 2 blocks to Goombay’s Raw Bar and Grill, Publix, Food Lion, Lowes, & department stores located within walking distance.

The interior was professionally remodeled & decorated with beach inspired furnishings. There are 3 bedrooms & 2 1/2 bathrooms. One bedroom with a king bed, another with a queen bed, & a bunk room with two sets of bunk beds, sleeps-4 (perfect for children or adults). There is a locked storage underneath the house where there is a full bath with an enclosed shower, toilet and sink (perfect for rinsing off after a day at the beach) & washer & dryer.

We enjoyed this cute house! Comfortable beds, loved relaxing on the screened in porch. We enjoyed using the beach wagon since its a couple of blocks from the beach. We would stay here again.

Place was great location. Loved having full bath downstairs when returning from beach and access to beach items to use. The host was very responsive to any questions and quickly. Had everything we mostly could need. The only thing needed is new frying pans. There are two large and both very scratched up and looked as if someone cooked in them and put them away without cleaning. I just left them as is and used the skillet I had brought from home. Other than that, there wasn't any issue I had at all and would rent from them again when in the OBX area...very convenient location to many restaurants, shopping, etc...My family and I had a great time. Thank you.

Wonderful stay for family

The Mermaid Shanty was exactly what we needed for a short family weekend. Being able to walk to the beach was a huge plus, and the house is well stocked with all the basics we needed for a comfortable stay. Hanging out in the evening by the firepit was a treat!

Perfect place for a family getaway

We really enjoyed our stay at the Mermaid Shanty. Great communication from the owner. This house has everything needed for a week at the beach. Beds were super comfy! And we really appreciated having a washer and dryer available.

Hello, we did enjoy our stay. Just would like to mention that we followed the air conditioning instructions but the room with the bunk beds didn't get cool enough. We were able to find 4 usable beach chairs but there were several that need replacing because they were broken {torn} & rusty.

Perfect Family Getaway at the Mermaid Shanty

Our stay at the Mermaid Shanty was truly fantastic. Tonia, the host, has thoughtfully equipped the beach house with everything needed for a relaxing getaway. As this was our first visit to OBX, we had a lot of questions, but the house provided a sense of comfort and ease. With four kids and our parents in tow, there was plenty of space for everyone to feel at home. The front porch quickly became our favorite spot, and the backyard was a great size. The downstairs room, complete with a shower and extra toilet, was incredibly convenient. We absolutely loved the charming decorations, and everything was spotless and fresh when we arrived. Thank you!

Wonderful Property

Loved the location, the huge front porch, and our 4 kids thought they were in heaven in the room with 4 bunk beds! The house was very cute and you could tell the owner wanted it to be comfy and very inviting. There were so many things at the house it was extremely helpful and easy to feel at home. The kids tried out all of the games, read the books, and we utilized the awesome beach wagon, beach towels, chairs, and umbrellas. We had everything we needed and more. Tonia was so nice and quick to respond to any questions. She had a list of ideas for us on where to go and places to eat. It was just the best vacation and we hope to do this again next year. Thank you Tonia!!

Perfect place for my little family!

My husband, 12 month old, and I loved our long weekend here. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t exactly beach weather for us so we loved being able to hangout on the large screened in patio. This location couldn’t be more perfect! Our favorite restaurant was Bonzer Shack.

Beach themed house

property was beautifully decorated with light and airy colors and accents. House was upper floor only and stairs to all entrances. Bedrooms were nice and comfortable. We enjoyed cooking some meals in well equipped kitchen.front enclosed porch was very breezy and our dog enjoyed playing there. . We really enjoyed our stay.

Great Long Weekend

We really enjoyed our stay at Mermaid Shanty! We came down on a stormy day and asked about early check in. We were able to turn a miserable beach day into a relaxing afternoon on the comfortable screened in porch. We’ve been having trouble finding rentals we like, but we will be back to Mermaid Shanty!

Great Weekend Vacation

We had a great long weekend vacation! The owners were in touch prior to our trip and very welcoming. She provided more info and suggestions than any other rental we’ve stayed in. The beach wagon provided was a small but wonderful touch- we can’t imagine not using one in the future. The hosts were extremely accommodating and provided everything we needed. The few questions we had leading up to our trip were responded to within a few minutes. We will definitely be returning.
