Hale Kona Kai is an intimate, absolute oceanfront complex of 39 one-bedroom condominiums. Located at the edge of Kona Town, it is off the main road providing for quiet, ocean-view relaxation from every unit. Located just south of Royal Kona Resort, excellent dining at Huggo's or Don the Beachcomber's is a short distance away and other restaurants are just a bit further. You will find the white sand of Honl's Beach less than a quarter mile to the south and the Kona Farmer's Market just a half mile to the north.

The complex offers an elevator providing easy access for everyone. On the ocean side, you will find a heated saltwater swimming pool and a barbeque at the south end of the complex. Each floor has coin-operated washers and dryers for your use. Each condo does not have its own washer/dryer.

Each unit offers assigned parking, secure WIFI, & cable TV. All units, including lanais, are non-smoking and Hale Kona Kai is a non-smoking facility.

The unit was amazing! It had the perfect view for relaxation. It was well supplied with the essentials: linens, towels, beach towels, even kitchen necessities such as spices (not just salt and pepper like the others). There were a variety of pots and pans to use and other kitchen utensils too. I appreciate the welcome snacks but would have been great if there were also at least welcome bottles of water.Just a little side comment: there was not enough spoons and forks though. Also need to change the toilet paper holder. Because of the one end open design the whole toilet paper falls off frequently. And the whole toilet paper holder rotates too so the more the roll keeps rolling off.I used the common laundry located on our floor the 4th. I put 4 quarters to get Tide soap but nothing came out. Either the thing was empty or broken. Maintenance team should check that often and put a sign so no money (like mine) gets wasted.Same unfortunate incident happened when I used the dryer. No sign was put on saying it was broken. It just ate my coins as well.If there’s a way they can upgrade the washer dryers to using credit cards that would be great. Or better yet install inside the unit itself.Other than those minor stuff everything was great! I highly recommend this condo. No regrets at all.

Patio- awesome. Condo not so much

I was prepared for the dated and worn look of the condo, and the photos were accurate. However, i wasnt prepared for the musty, mildewy smell, and the cockroaches. Unfortunatly that put a damper on our impression of the property. The bathroom, and the kitchen needed a good wipe down, the microwave was disgusting. The good- the location is awesome. The patio is fantastic and we spent a lot fo time out there, its gorgeous. Very central, can walk anywere, quite at night, just the crashing of the waves.... I did text the property about the smell and the cockroaches, however nobody replied.

Great location!!

No doubt about it, this is a room with a view. The condo was nice but could be so great with some upgrades. We really enjoyed our stay there and knew if we needed anything we could always get in touch with someone.

Great Views and Location

The view from the deck/lanai is everything they tell you it is. It is a lovely view and you are right on top of the ocean. Felt like you were in an aquarium with all of the different colored fish swimming under us. It was great. You are a very short walk to several dining options and the primary shopping/pier area of Kona. With that said, like most reviews have indicated, the property is dated and the lack of central air was annoying. The portable A/C did keep the bedroom cool, but maybe not in a nice healthy way. The rest of the unit was very warm. On some days, the deck area caught a really nice breeze and was cool in morning/evening. We noticed some units are remodeled. This one could really be special if the owners put in some new flooring, shower, doors. I was a little miffed that they supplied only 2 rolls of TP for a week long stay. We made it, barely. Just an odd thing to try and short renters on given that isn't something i'd normally plan on shopping for during vacation. The mgmt. company did do a really nice job of communicating with us and felt professional. A great view and a great city location.

Perfect location and the best unit!

This is not the first time we've stayed in this beautiful unit. I booked this trip for my Parents and they just loved it. The view is spectacular and the location of the complex is just perfect. 100% recommend.

The view - fantastic

The overall look of the unit is clearly dated and needs a pretty big refresh - but that’s only cosmetic stuff. The important stuff, like cleanliness and how well things work, is just fine. The view is great, the parking is easy, the pool is nice; plus it’s an easy walk to town. Glad we stayed here.

This condo is in a great location. Walking distance to most amenities. The room itself however could really stand to be upgraded a bit. Only 5 coffee cups, 6 forks. Really ? No Netflix ! Really ? Otherwise it was fine.

On the plus side the view really is fantastic, great to be right on the water and you can hear the waves. However the property is falling apart, the shower is really quite derelict and the bed is extremely uncomfortable and overused. Save yourself the heartache and stay elsewhere.

I've stayed at HKK 6 times, including other corner units. Wit the northwest facing wrap-around lanai on the top floor, this is the best location there.

Perfect Location

We had a great vacation with this condo as our home base. It was clean, comfortable, and just as described - no surprises. We had all of the information we needed and our interactions with the management representatives were very good. The location of this property is perfect - a very short walk to shopping and really good restaurants. I cannot imagine finding a rental with a better view in all of Kona. The view is spectacular! Be sure you plan your days to enjoy every sunset from the lanai.

Amazing views from balcony

I read the reviews before checking into this place and have to agree that it could definitely use a little better maintenance and upkeep. For example, The bathroom drain was very very slow and the fixtures although they worked or loose and funky . That being said, we had the right expectations going in and we had a great stay. Here. The wrap-around balcony is amazing and we spend a lot of time out there. We got to watch dolphins two of the 3 days we were there. We also used the lagoon next door for an early morning Zen float in the water. So easy to walk to restaurants in the evening in Kona town. The location is absolutely unbeatable because it's close to town yet quiet..

Great Location room was sub standard

The overall property is nice. This particular room 413 was in poor condition, poorly equipped, dirty, and moldy, with very dated furnishings. Poor quality of linens. We rented this unit for 24 days and were provided 2 rolls of toilet paper, 4 dishwasher soap pods, 3 garbage bags. The bathtub was so old the porcelain was wearing off the faucet dripped constantly. Very disappoining! The view was fantastic!

Filthy property with outdated pictures

The photos online are at least 15 years old. The unit was disgustingly dirty. The kitchen floor tiles were greasy, and many were cracked and broken. The fridge was covered with rust, including inside the freezer. The fridge door gaskets were all full of mold. There were stains on the countertops. The bathtub had paint peeling off it, and the cold water faucet was bent and hanging off the wall. The faucet dripped constantly. The shower curtain was full of black mold. The vanity top had stains on it. The entire unit smelled of mold and mildew. All towels were put away damp. The carpet was almost black and full of stains. The ceiling fan in the bedroom had a chain running to the wall that was hanging with dirt. The elevator was broke one day, and the a/c for the entire complex was broken for 3 of our last 7 nights. One tall patio chair was missing one foot and was uneven and dug a hole into the balcony floor. Only given 1 small Splenda packet size bar of soap for 2 people for 7 nights and no other toiletries. Left over baby shampoo left a greasy film on me. Lots of half used toiletries and spices in the kitchen, all sketchy at best. Asked for :30 minute early check in and 1:00 late check out, and was told no to both, because of COVID and cleaning. Not sure what they are cleaning, but it isn't anywhere inside this unit. The view and location are both great, and the bed was comfortable. Having a parking space was nice, but it was tight.

Great location + view

We really enjoyed being right on the ocean and walking distance to town. The property was clean and well stocked with things like soap, spices, aluminum foil, dishes and beach supplies. The property is completely dated. The pictures show it but you feel it when staying there. I would say location makes up for it but be aware of the dated condition before booking.
