Summary:

Bring the whole group to Hololani, a small direct-oceanfront resort on the Kahana coast of West Maui, where the building sits at the water's edge and the upper-floor lanais frame Molokai straight across the channel. Your reservation includes two private 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom condos: four bedrooms and four bathrooms in all, two full kitchens, two living rooms and two private lanais, with the heated oceanfront pool and barbecue grills just downstairs.



What we guarantee: Both condos are always inside Hololani. Unit A is a 2-bedroom condo and Unit B is a 2-bedroom condo, with exactly the beds listed below in every bedroom. Both condos have ocean views from the living room and lanai. Both homes are kept to the same quality standard, with finishes similar to what you see in these photos. If we ever could not deliver that, you would approve the alternative first or receive a full refund.

The 4 bedrooms sleep 8 guests at 2 per bedroom, and the sleeper sofa in each living room sleeps 2 more, adding 4 additional guests for a combined maximum of 12.



Each condo has the same practical layout: a primary bedroom with a king bed, a second bedroom with two twin beds, two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a living and dining area with a sleeper sofa, and a private lanai built for the view. It is an easy setup for two families, or for a larger family that wants the kids in their own rooms.



Good to know before you book: each condo has its own front door and its own entry details, so the two halves of the group keep their own schedules. Hololani has elevators, Wi-Fi and assigned parking in the underground garage, and it is a smaller, quieter property than the big Kaanapali resorts, with fewer units and a more self-directed pace. There is a 4-night minimum, with check-in from 3 PM and check-out by 11 AM.



The Space:

Unit A (2BR): Unit A is a two-bedroom, two-bathroom oceanfront condo built around its lanai, the spot for breakfast with a view of Molokai and for watching the sun drop into the ocean in the evening. The open living and dining area flows from the kitchen, which is fully equipped with a refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, dishwasher, cookware and everything needed to cook for the group. The primary bedroom has a king bed, and the second bedroom has two twin beds, ideal for kids or friends. The living room sofa opens into a bed for two more guests, bringing this home to 6.



Unit B (2BR): Unit B mirrors that comfortable layout, with a living and dining area that opens to its own private lanai, a full kitchen and two bathrooms. The primary bedroom has a king bed and the second bedroom has two twin beds, and a sleeper sofa in the living room adds space for two more guests, for a total of 6 in this home.



The resort: Hololani is a true direct-oceanfront property on the Kahana shoreline. The pool deck sits on the ocean side of the building, almost on the water, with a heated pool, lounge chairs and barbecue grills for sunset dinners, and the multi-story building is served by elevators. Hololani's west-facing position lines up with spectacular sunsets, and during humpback whale season, December through April, guests regularly watch whales from their lanais; green sea turtles turn up year-round in the calmer water just offshore. It is the kind of place where guests describe eating breakfast on the lanai and watching whales and turtles in the same hour, then heading down to the pool deck to watch the sky change color at sunset. Both condos are inside Hololani, so the whole group shares the same pool deck, the same grills and the same ocean view.



Guest Access:

Your reservation includes the private interiors of both condos, each with its own front door and its own entry details, plus the shared Hololani amenities: the heated oceanfront pool and pool deck, the barbecue grills, the oceanfront grounds, the elevators and assigned underground parking.



The Neighborhood:

Kahana sits on a quiet stretch of West Maui between the Kaanapali resort area to the south and Kapalua to the north. Captain Jack's and a handful of other casual restaurants are within walking distance along the Kahana coast, and the neighborhood markets of nearby Honokowai are the closest stops for groceries. Pohaku Park, Kaopala and Keonenui are among the nearby beaches.



Kaanapali Beach and Whalers Village are about a 7-minute drive south. Kaanapali is one of West Maui's most popular beaches, lined with resorts, shops, restaurants, bars and beach activities, and its two golf courses and the beachfront walkway make it easy to fill a day there. The Kapalua Resort is roughly the same distance north, home to world-class golf courses, fine dining, Kapalua Bay and the Kapalua Coastal Trail, and Napili Bay, a popular cove beach for snorkeling and spotting green sea turtles, is just up the road. Honolua Bay, a favorite for summer snorkeling and winter surf watching, is about 15 minutes beyond Kapalua.



Winter is whale season on this coast, and the channel between Maui, Molokai and Lanai is one of the best places in Hawaii to watch humpbacks from shore. Summer brings calmer seas and long golden evenings, and the sunsets from the West Maui coast are a daily event year-round.



Getting Around:

Kahului Airport (OGG) is about a 45- to 60-minute drive from Kahana, and Kapalua Airport, which serves interisland flights, is only a few minutes away. A rental car is the easiest way to explore West Maui and the rest of the island, and Hololani has assigned parking in its underground garage. Kaanapali and Kapalua are each a short drive along Lower Honoapiilani Road and the Honoapiilani Highway, and casual dining in Kahana is within walking distance. Rideshare operates on Maui, though pickups are easier to arrange in advance in West Maui.
