Sarmizegetusa Ulpia was discovered earlier, was known already in the early 1900s, and was initially mistaken for the Dacian capital, a confusion which led to incorrect conclusions being made regarding the military history and organization of the Dacians...

On a roadtrip in Romania in June 2016. The photo was taken somewhere close to the small village Hațeg I think. At least it is somewhere in the in the west part of Romania, on the roads between Drobeta-Turnu Severin and Deva. A region filled with scenery like this, mountains (some with snow), hills, forests, castles and farms. Romania is such a diverse country. A country that should be on every travellers bucket list!
