The Space:
If you are booking this for June 1, 2024 on wards it includes the 6th bedroom (biltmore cabin), which is separate from the house.
Experience the magic of the high desert at The Desert Lily. Surrounded by a stunning adobe and bottle wall, this tranquil oasis offers the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure. Whether you're gazing at the brilliant starry sky or bathing in the intense desert moonlight, every moment is a delight. Cozy up around the fire pit on cool evenings or curl up in a hammock and dream of other worlds. The weather in the high desert is cooler than Palm Springs, just 40 miles away, making it the perfect destination for fall and winter activities and springtime desert blooms.

Step into the Great Room, where you'll find a welcoming space for lounging, dining, and cooking. The coffee table is an original homestead table over 100 years old!
We offer 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms:
The Sunrise Suite is a two-bedroom private living space, with both bedrooms on the second floor, a queen bed in each room, and a primary bathroom attached to one of the bedrooms. On the main floor, you'll find a living room with a foosball table and a patio with a hot tub and hammocks where you can enjoy the sunrise and sunset views.

For a more intimate experience, the property also offers three individual lodge rooms, each with an individual entry from the covered patio, private bathroom, queen-sized bed, and a unique desert-inspired decor.

Need even more privacy? The Biltmore cabin is separate from the house (close to the pool) and has a cuisinette, bathroom, small dining table, and couch. Perfect for a couple or individual.

Explore the magnificent gardens and take a stroll on the 5-acre lot, take a dip in the pool, and enjoy the private pool area with the most glorious views in Joshua Tree. The Desert Lily is the perfect destination for those seeking a peaceful and enchanting desert getaway.

- Respect: Our neighbors are very nice folks, and we enjoy the quiet and harmonious environment together. Please do not party and/or cause loud noises to help us maintain this peaceful environment. This home is very loved. Please treat it with respect, and it will respect you. Quiet hours are all day in the desert! This is strictly enforced. If you foresee this being a problem for you, we'd kindly ask that you please consider another home. We take great care in being respectful to our neighbors.

- Trash Disposal
You will find trash bags in the cabinet under the sink of the kitchen. When the trashcan is full, please remove the trash bag and take it to trash bin in front of the house (when you head out of the driveway, the road forks - go to the left and you'll find the bins at the end of the driveway). Trash gets picked up by the county every Tuesday.

- Parties or Events
We do not allow guests to throw parties or events in our home. Quiet Hours in the neighborhood start at 9pm. Again, this will be strictly enforced. If you're looking to party or consistently make loud noise, this will not be the house for your group.

- Smoking
The home is a non-smoking environment. Please smoke outside and dispose of your cigarettes in the trash. We appreciate your cooperation!

- Fire pit
There is an outdoor fire pit area. if you would like to use it, please plan to bring your own firewood and make sure this is the only area you light fires in and keep it under control. The desert is VERY dry and fires can go up in an INSTANT. The area is also very windy and as such fires can travel at incredible speeds here.

Yes, pets are allowed if you book the Whole House. There is a pet fee of $50+tax for 1 pet and $100 +tax for 2 pets max. No cats

- Pool/ Spa
If you would like the spa attached to the pool to be heated, please inquire about the cost. Propane is quite expensive in Joshua Tree and we unfortunately are not able to include the cost in the nightly rate. The hot tub next to the house runs on electricity and is included at no additional cost.

Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the entire premises. The only area that is off bounds is the homestead cabin and storage studio in the back that are not permitted for guests to use. My friend Whitey uses the studio area for storage and may be around (he also helps maintain the grounds so if you see him be sure to say hello!).

EV charging:
We have 2 Tesla EV charging stations that you are welcome to use. Note: bring your own adapter if you have an EV plug that is not Tesla.

The Neighborhood:
The Desert Lily is in the heart of the Joshua Tree Highlands, one of the most desirable neighborhoods in the High Desert, and just minutes from downtown Joshua Tree and the National Park entrance!

Getting Around:
We recommend bringing your own car to get around as there are no public transportation options to get to the house. The Joshua Tree Highlands is loved for its scenic roads and rural neighborhood feel, but please note that the dirt roads can be rough and there are no street lights, so driving slow is highly recommended!

There is an additional daily fee to heat up the spa (not the hot tub that is on the patio) due to the high propane costs. Heating the spa is not guaranteed and no refunds for nightly stay will be issued if it is not functioning.

Well located but not all it claimed

Overall we were happy with our stay but there were a couple of things that did not meet with the description. The house was comfortable and the rooms had all the necessities. We enjoyed the outside eating area and the firepit. Our issues were with the pool area and the outdoor kitchen. The pool was an item that had drawn us to the property but the cost to heat the pool and jacuzzi seemed terribly unreasonable. We could not justify heating either for a 4 hour usage, therefore were missed out on the sunbathing and floating as we had planned on. In the same area there is a very large outside kitchen which is deteriorating due a lack of usage and makes for an unpleasant feeling around the pool area. The outdoor spaces have not been tended in what appeared to be many months. The grounds needed to be swept and the weeds needed to be managed. We did use the jacuzzi on the patio, which allowed us to enjoy a warm soak after a long day of hiking. In the future, I would alert the occupants to the fact that the pool area is not being managed and they should take that into consideration when renting. Finally, the indoor dining area and sitting areas were comfortable enough for a large group but the refrigerator in the kitchen was in need of replacement. The doors were tricky to close properly and the freezer was missing parts which would make it more useful. We managed to settle in but the site should be a bit more transparent about the issues.

Great time at a great place

we are a family of climbers and hikers and loved the place and its proximity to the park. we cooked thanksgiving dinner in the kitchen and it all worked out great.
