    - Black Shack is an adult only property.
    - The second double bedroom at the Black Shack is accessed via the master bedroom or the rear deck and is therefore only suited to a close family member or friend. It is separated with a sliding door for privacy. And finally, one of the public entrances to the beach is next door to this property, however privacy is totally maintained by a 2m high fence.

    - Strictly no parties at this property – please. You will be evicted if this rule is broken.

    Where will I be?

    The Black Shack is in the best location in Hyams Beach. It is merely metres from the sand. Spend the evening listening to the waves, and wake each morning to an incredible sunrise over Jervis Bay. Enjoy a gentle stroll along the beach and visit the famous Hyams Beach Cafe which is only a short walk up the road.

    Why choose Black Shack?

    Be the envy of everyone by having stayed in Hyams' most exclusive beach shack. Fashion designer Nicola Waite has designed this beautiful minimalist beach retreat with her dramatic creative signature. The Black Shack, although right in the centre of Hyams Beach, has a sense of total privacy, allowing the most relaxing of holidays.

    How is the property laid out?

    The Black Shack is completely open plan and the design elements flow through into each of the clearly defined areas. The interior space has lime-washed wooden floors and stylised furnishings complimentary to the black interior throughout. The well equipped kitchen has an electric oven, ceramic cooktop, integrated dishwasher and bar fridge with freezer. The open screened master bedroom has a queen bed styled with luxury linen. The small second bedroom with a double bed is accessed via the master or, for greater privacy, from one of the rear decks. The walk-in wet room has floor to ceiling concrete tiles and complimentary Aesop toiletries are provided for guest use, making the Black Shack a truly opulent experience. There is an external European style laundry on the side of the front deck with both washing machine and clothes dryer.

    Wi-Fi, internet, Netflix or pay TV- will I have it?

    The Black Shack has both Wi-Fi and Chromecast has been attached to the TV.

    What about outdoors?

    An elevated series of rear decks provide breath-taking views of Point Perpendicular, Bowen Island and the glistening waters of Jervis Bay. The large garden is part gravel and part lush lawn. Selective use of screens, border trees and the surrounding forest create a sense of complete privacy. A hot/cold outdoor shower is well positioned beside the back decks.

    Keeping warm or keeping cool?

    The Black Shack has reverse cycle air-conditioning in the main space, comfortably heating or cooling the entire home. There is also a ceiling fan in the master bedroom.

    What about sheets, towels and other supplies?

    Luxurious pure cotton and linen sheets, towels and luxury Aesop bathroom toiletries are provided at the Black Shack. Please bring your own beach towels however.

    Parking for cars, boats etc?

    Off street parking for up to 2 cars is provided. Parking is restricted to the gravel driveway, and there is to be no parking on the grass.

    Is my dog or cat also welcome to stay?

    Sorry, the Black Shack is not pet friendly.

    What are the minimum stay rules?

    - Summer Season: Between 2 and 7 nights, depending on the property
    - Easter: 4 nights
    - Long Weekends: 3 nights
    - All other times: 2 nights

    Are there any special Summer Season rules?

    Please note that during Summer Season, our properties may have designated changeover days so as to make the cleaning rosters manageable. We also do not schedule arrivals on the Christmas, Boxing, and New Years Day public holidays.

One of a kind

This dreamy little 50s shack is without doubt in the best possible position in Hyams Beach. However our otherwise perfect experience was marred by lack of maintainance and other niggly little things that if fixed would make this a 10 out of 5 review. Our biggest gripe was on arrival our wagon got stuck on the concrete footpath because there is a 100mm drop off from footpath to the gravel driveway. Had to find some rocks to make a ramp.Wouldn't be a problem for an SUV or 4wd but for normal cars it is a real issue. We had to use the 2nd bedroom as a place to lay out our clothes as there is no wardrobe or hanging space anywhere. BBQ was grotty and slow because one burner is clagged up. The bedroom roller blind is a booby trap that fell down on my wifes foot and there are nails sticking up everywhere on the back deck that need to be replaced with screws.French door key in knob cheapies not very secure and the bottom bolt in the bedroom is broken. The bar fridge struggled on a 32 degree day.(Tip: leave the fridge cupboard door ooen to let it cool easier) Air con struggled too. We would have liked to open windows so we could enjoy the coastal breeze and sound of waves at night but most of them have been nailed shut and there are NO flyscreens. The replica Hans Wegner chairs look nice but we were scared to sit on them in case we bumped into the fish vase. Its a 5 star review from me only because of what it is and where it is. Superb Location

We enjoyed our short stay at the Black Shack, everything worked well, good showers with strong water pressure both inside and out, a comfortable bed and Netflix on TV, though strangely no ABC. The location is superb just a short walk from the garden to the beach. Two tips for future renters, the air con needs to be switched on, on the bottom of the unit, and the Salty Crab, (next to the mega Woolworths, a 10 minute drive), is an exceptional take-out for up-market Fish and Chips, though if you don’t want to wait you should phone your order in advance, it closes at 6.30pm. Stylish décor and furnishings but some might find the all black inside as well as outside a little oppressive. Nearly everything black is perhaps the triumph of style over practicality. A $55 penalty if the cleaners have to empty the dishwasher seems to be tough love. Are Cleaners really that well paid in Hyams Beach? In conclusion we would be very happy to go back, though we would avoid Australia Day, when Hyams Beach was exceptionally busy.
