We loved the property and the easy access to the beach. Turtles visit frequently, which makes for a fun experience. The only downfall to this property is the hour drive to downtown and most tourist attractions. If you plan to spend most of your time on the North Shore, this is the perfect location.
This was a wonderful and affordable place to stay on OÊ»ahuâs North Shore. While the building is older, itâs well maintained and offers a peaceful, laid-back atmosphere that feels like classic Hawaii. The highlight is definitely the beachâcalm, uncrowded, and perfect for kids. The waves break far out, leaving the shoreline waters tranquil for swimming or just relaxing in the sun. Itâs also a great home base, with many of OÊ»ahuâs scenic spots and cultural attractions just a short drive away. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with a generous living area, full kitchen, and plenty of room to stretch out. There was an ample supply of towels, sheets, and even beach towels provided. The beach chairs were a great and appreciated surprise. One downside is that the bedroom faces the highway, and you can hear cars passing by throughout the night. This obviously isn't in the owners control, but something to consider. We ended up sleeping on the pullout couch facing the ocean, which actually made for a great nightâs rest with the sound of the waves, and a peaceful morning waking up to a beautiful sunrise and coffee on the lanai.Security is very good, and the property feels safe and welcoming. If youâre looking for a budget-friendly, beachfront stay that gives you a taste of local life away from the big resorts, this is a great value. Weâd definitely come back!
We enjoyed our stay. Everything was good except the construction noise in the mornings and the muddy parking lot. (It had been raining a lot). We would recommend this place.
We enjoyed the beach in front of the property. The bed was way too soft, the sofa bed was better. Be aware that the bedroom has no door, it is more of a nook. The floor in the appartment was not clean. Maybe because of the construction workers. They painted the balcony ceiling during our stay. One day when we came back the front door was open (we have locked it when we went out). We assume that the workers came in through the balcony door which we did have closed but not locked. After that we made sure we locked both doors. Overall we had a good stay and loved the North shore
Everything thing was good, the bed was a little soft. The location was great as we had most of our activities on the north shore. We would stay there again.
Neighborhood: Sketchy. The property overall was dirty and appeared to be in decay. Upon arrival, it was challenging to find the lockbox. Upon entering the property, we could see that it had not been cleaned. It looked as if someone had been eating something in the messy bed. We weren't sure if the specs of debris we were seeing were crumbs or bed-bugs... There were sheets in the washing machine that had not been washed. There was scaffolding outside, blocking the ocean view, as well as loud construction going on. When I contacted the property manager, they said the cleaning people had stepped out, but would be right back. This was almost 5pm. We were tired from our flight and driving to the property. It did not look as nice as the photos. NOT BY A LONG SHOT. I stated that this was unacceptable. TOTAL RIP off. Avoid at all costs... We were there to attend a wedding, and had to find last minute lodging, that was much more expensive. But... we weren't about to stay at this deplorable property. Paid over $1500.00 for 4 nights, and was only able to get a $175. refund. Live and learn...
I'm so excited to share this with you! The condo was fantastic, we slept with all the windows open, It was just awesome! The only downside was that there was no coffee or tea, and we couldn't find any nearby. (I wasn't looking for a Starbucks, just any coffee). Luckily, we stumbled upon the "Bald Guy" food truck and their amazing cold brew blew us away!
*No real air conditioning. There is a portable a/c unit in the living room & a box fan. The a/c doesn't cool enough; Other than the first night, we didn't have a breeze to cool the unit; it was humid & stuffy the other four night
*The queen bed is very soft & was not comfortable
*The dryer takes a long time to dry items & the lint filter comes loose while in use & clanks around inside the dryer
*The bedroom has poor airflow so we slept on the pullout sofa nights 2-5; sofa was firmer for our backs but there was a support bar that could be felt through the sofa mattress, not ideal
*Lots of rust: tub, top of fridge and sofa frame
*The cable TV did not work; the only way to turn off the TV was to un-plug it; there were three remotes without usage instructions
*Living room seating not comfortable
*The pots & pans are not new; some are teflon coated & should be replaced due to scratches
Wooden spoons & plastic cooking spatulas are old & worn
*No toilet lid
*Only one working electrical outlet working in the kitchen area, the other two did not work
*We had to message the host to get instructions on how to pull out the sofa
*No unit "welcome/unit instructions/local things to know" binder like other VRBO condos we've rented
*No photo of actual entire building in photos to see outside of building prior to reserving
Unit has great potential, but needs improvements so that guests are not inconvenienced & uncomfortable.
This was a mixed bag but potential to be great.
Pros
- View cannot be beat. Amazing!.
- Great beach. We regularly saw turtles while snorkeling off the beach.
- Excellent property manager who is very responsive and accommodating
- Great quiet location without the 'touristy' feel (exactly what we were looking for)
Cons
- The biggest one which took away from the whole experience was the condition of the unit. A lot of rust! We understand that ocean front accommodations are hard to manage for this aspect but we have stayed at numerous oceanfront condos and never experienced this much rust. The whole top of the fridge was (my apologies to the property owners), disgusting :(. Perhaps because I am tall that it was always in clear view for me and bothered me more than it probably would to others who can't see it constantly. It was weird that a lot of items were upgraded (e.g Kitchen) while others seem to be in bad shape (e.g. bath tub/shower, lanai, etc.)
- The bedroom is pretty much unusable. Primarily because there was no airflow in the bedroom and since the unit doesn't have air-conditioning, you have to keep the window open and then you can't sleep due to noise from the road. We slept on the pull out couch in the living room, which worked okay but was not ideal.
The building is going through an upgrade (noise etc. from that was minimal and did not bother us) so hoping the unit will also get some much needed freshening up.
Condo was as expected, not super but ok. Where to park was buried in the web site. My fault only read Check In and Check out procedures. No sign in the Condo or instructions. 10:30 p.m. after parking in same place for 2 days Security knock on door, had to move right now, I was asleep. Simple fix put a sign on the wall were the house key were kept with parking instructions. Also in the Check In and Out instructions give parking instructions. Everything else was as expected.
Mixed feelings about it. Rooms were clean. Living room/kitchen fine. However the bedroom was not big enough for the queen-size bed. Not enough space to squeeze past the foot of the bed just to get into the bed just 6â. The bed was up against the wall on the other side.So after the first night we moved the mattress to the living room and slept on the floor! The bathroom had two issues: toilet was so low it was almost like a squatty potty; the shower had NO grab bar if one slipped.
The appliances were good and everything else was fine.
Pros
1. The beach. Right outside your door, turtles to swim with, beautiful to watch from the suite.
2. The grounds, well maintained, lots of space to chill
3. We felt very safe and secure
Cons
1. Beds - 7/10, tiny space, no door, thin pillows, light from outside walkway
2. No AC or fans
We enjoyed our stay! You cant beat the view in the morning. It was away from the crowds for sure but also means it was quite a drive to the nearest bar if you were wanting to have a drink in the evening. Super close to the Polynesian Cultural Center though, which we loved! Quite a bit of street noise when sleeping with windows open; we tried the hide-a-bed on the couch as suggested in other reviews so we could just hear the ocean but the mattress there was too uncomfortable.
