Booked in for the night as the location is perfect and have stayed several times before. From the moment we arrived the reception was extremely busy and before long we realised that several people were complaining about the state of their rooms. Did feel sorry for the young receptionist who was trying to sort. She was talking to a man ( who looked like a handyman) in reception and he was stood there drinking a pint( even if it was alcohol free it didn’t look very professional). The young lady apologised for our wait and was very polite. We went to our room, on opening the door there was no instant clean smell that you would normally expect. The first thing I noticed was the carpet. It didn’t look like it had been hoovered and there were large stains. The furniture was tired and dusty and the mirror was smeared where it hadn’t been cleaned. The bathroom was just ok and the bed was clean. If the bed had not been clean we wouldn’t have stayed in that room. We put up with it as it was just for a night. The next morning we could hear conversation from the next room and a baby crying. It was just stud walling so could hear everything. We didn’t opt for breakfast which I was pleased about because if the rooms are that unclean then personally I wouldn’t want to eat there. On leaving the gentleman on reception asked us if everything was ok so did tell him that the room needed a deep clean and said he’d pass it on.

The positive: Staff were great. Good location in town centre. Bed was clean, as was the bathroom. The negatives, and there were many: Bedroom looked grubby, sofa with several stains and the carpet was in need of a good vacuuming and clean. Furniture surface lamination lifting off, bathroom shelf was struggling to stay on the wall. And where are the bedside lamps? What happened to the buffet breakfast? Two slices of toast and preserves, along with an apology. The hotel management need some guidance with regards to fixtures and fittings. It should be a grand hotel, and can be, but it is let down by the overall condition.

Incredible attention to detail and spotlessly clean, with a very comfortable bed, this was a prefect stay!
