Overall my stay was okay. The hotel staff was great, the hot tub nice and hot, and the continental breakfast was okay. So far, so good, right? Then there was the absence of the restaurant within the hotel, it was closed the entire time I was there. And Grayling does NOT have many options for dining out other than fast food. I'm told the bar/grille was open, but whenever I checked on it the doors were locked and the lights were off, and I checked at various times to make sure. The in-room phone sucked. I couldn't get any volume on it, and when I told the front desk they sent someone from housekeeping to point out the volume adjustor, which we set on "HIGH", but still the phone didn't have any volume. This wouldn't have been too bad except that the only place I could get cellphone service was out in my car in the parking lot. I felt cut off from the very people I was there to see, not good! And lastly, in their efforts to help the environment, the hotel bought eco-friendly toilets which use a minimum of water, and I do mean "minimum". When taking a dump, I wasn't hitting any water, and after eating only fast food for a few days, it stank. I felt like I was sitting in my own filth. And in a bathroom that didn't have a fan in it, that's just not good. It reminded me of the old rest stops from years ago when the facilities provided were little more than outhouses.
This could be a 5-star hotel if it weren't for the lack of the advertised restaurant, no phones, etc.
