The host was very accommodating and we truly had the BEST stay. The house is very clean and organized and has amazing features. Do not miss on booking this stay!!
This house was perfect for exactly what I needed. I had 14 girls in total stay with me for the weekend, mostly family but a few friends. We all came here to explore Salem and have a quiet weekend. Pete was awesome! Anytime I had a question or concern he did message back within the hour. He was very accommodating and very helpful. The house is huge and never felt like you were stopping on each other. I loved how the house was tucked away and we could sit outside and not see anyone. The only thing I felt challenging was all trash needed to be placed in purple garbage bags and you could only get them at one place in town. I had tried to go there twice and both times they were closed and I got lucky the third try to get them. This isnât on the owner of this listings fault but I do wish I wouldâve tried to grab these on my way to the house the very first night so I didnât have to worry about having the proper bags for trash removal. Overall it was the perfect stay and made my first Salem experience amazing. Would highly recommend this house, specially for a larger family!
We rented the house for âhome baseâ for our sons Gloucester wedding. The house was plenty big for our needs. The back porch was our favorite space.
The listing states there are four bathrooms. There are really 2 1/2 bathrooms and an outdoor shower. With a large group getting ready around the same time, this could be problematic. The listing also states 6 bedrooms when there are actually 3 bedrooms and an additional large nice space over the garage with one double bed and a single bed. Make sure to keep the back porch doors locked as we had a critter come in overnight that got into a trash bag on the porch.
The kitchen was very well stocked and we were very pleased with the additional refrigerator in the garage.
The house was just as it was posted. They have everything you need right there, the kitchen had everything you would need. I love that the linens were provided, much easier for packing when folks are coming from all directions.
The house was clean, private and you are provided with everything you need. We came in after the first Nor'easter came through the area, Pete was in contact with us from the day before check in til after we checked in providing information. This was due to the storm because of the damage in the area and power outage. We had power, we found this restaurant George's in Gloucester 10 minutes away. Had dinner then went back to the house and settled in for a relaxing cozy night. Beds were comfortable, there are extra pillows and blankets which is very nice to have. Plenty of indoor activities for rainy days. Visit Russell's orchard and try the apple cider donuts, you won't regret it. I must add cell service is not great in the entire area. The house does have wifi but phone calls will drop. Honestly it was nice to set the phones aside and enjoy the time with family and see the beautiful sites. Don't expect to find chain restaurants or grocery store. These are all locally independent restaurants and grocery. Way better food and some of the nicest people! We did not find a bad restaurant during our exploration. 5 stars đ is what I give this house, you will not be disappointed.
We had a wonderful family vacation in Gloucester with 5 adults and 5 teenagers. The location is private and quiet and the house is beautiful with lots of space to spread out. It was a real treat to have access to the private beach which was never crowded. The beach is long with fine sand, great for running or shell collecting, and with a very gradual slope itâs perfect for playing in the water. The beach is a 0.4 mile walk - no one complained but it would have been easy enough to do a drop-off. It was so pleasant at the house and beach that we only hit a fraction of the area highlights. Did go deep sea fishing on a party boat out of Gloucester, sampled lobster rolls at several places, checked out Plum Island and antique stores on the one rainy day.
As with most VRBO listings for larger parties, the bedroom descriptions were a little vague.
House was clean and almost what we expected. The "fourth" bedroom is a great space above the garage but to shower, occupants must go to second floor of main house and use one of the two full bathrooms on the floor. The screens of the rear porch were not cleared of cob webs. We were not informed that mouse traps were in the basement and two of our grandchildren discovered them why they were playing.
The most disappointing situation is that on the last beach day, a resident complained to us that we were using the beach. The golf cart was out of service so each day we drove our car down to the beach dropped off the beach stuff and some family members. We never parked our vehicle there unattended or for more than 5 minutes. Yet we were subjected to someone's complaints that "we did not belong there".
Overall the house itself was great but our stay was not that great.. First the positives, of which there were a lot. The house is beautiful, private, well stocked, clean (inside), fun for kids and adults and I imagine being a wonderful place to go all year round. The nearby Coffin's beach is dreamy - which is why we were looking to rent a house there. However, it was not a great place for us (one adult and kids), and there were a series of unfortunate events. The house is too far from the beach for young kids to walk. And the golf cart cannot be left by the beach. So without another adult to drop the kids off, there would be no way to actually go to the beach. If you have someone in your party able and willing to walk to the beach after dropping others off, this would be a great place!
The other issue we had was that some animals got into the trash our first night, and the previous renter's trash was strewn all over the property, including feminine hygiene products. It was disgusting. The owner was not able/willing? to have someone come clean it up - so with young kids, I had no choice but to clean it up myself. While the animals getting into the trash was not the owners fault, for the amount we spent to rent the place per night, I should have not had to spend over an hour cleaning up other peoples feminine hygiene products! or a partial refund would have at least made me feel a little good will toward the owner. Even after I cleaned up, I wasn't comfortable letting my kids play outside knowing what was there before I cleaned up. It just felt too gross.
While he was not helpful with the trash, the owner was helpful in contacting his friends in the area when the golf cart was stolen. It was fortunately recovered with their help. But beware... donât leave valuables or golf cart around!
Phone reception is very spotty and there is no Landline. If that is important to you, look for another place.
I would rent this place again if going in a larger group. I would do some things differently to make it more enjoyable.
We stayed here for a week over July 4 holiday with 3 teenage kids and plenty of space for all of us. Our 17 yo particularly liked his quarters above the garage. The house is very well equipped in the kitchen, loads of beach supplies (towels, chairs, buckets & spades etc) and plenty of spare blankets/linen. Lovely view across pond from screened porch at dinner time. It is a 10 min walk to the private beach or a quick beach buggy ride although you cannot park the buggy at the beach. The locals are also very particular which street you use to access the beach (we were spoken to a few times) so we found entering via Sandy Lane the easiest and hassle free. Lovely views across the pond at sunset and plenty of space for kids to sprawl out in the basement or living areas (although we could not get the TV to work in basement which was not a bad thing!). Check-in/Check-out process very simple and clear. Wingaersheek beach is one of our favourite beaches in NE and although pretty crowded on July 4, other days there was plenty of space on the beach to ourselves. Sunsets are magic and it truly is a very special place to visit. We will be back!
Loved the property and the location. Off season was a great time for a getaway with some friends. Lots of room for everyone to spread out. Can't even begin to imagine how super it would be during the summertime. Lovely neighborhood. Home has a lot to offer. Thank you again for sharing your home.
The place is very comfortable, nicely laid out and just the right setting and size. There were two grandparents, two parents, three grand children (ages 14 to 25) and a 25 year old guest. Plenty of room, easy to get to fishing places, plus Gloucester and Rockport are a short drive away. The 5 to 6am walks on the big, empty beach were a treat. The enclosed porch was so nice!
Great house and location for a large family get together with lots of parking space. 10 min walk down neighborhood street to beautiful private beach. Included golf cart great for getting handicapped and beach supplies to beach.
We had a lovely stay with family on this spacious, clean, well appointed home near Wingaersheek Beach in Gloucester, MA. The house easily accommodated my family of 3, my parents, my brother's family of 4 for a total of 9. The first night we had 2 extra for a total of 11 and there was plenty of room to sprawl out!
Location: The house is situated on a private gravel driveway on a hill overlooking a lovely pond across the street. The private beach is about a half a mile away of which you can use the golf cart to transport chairs, etc to and from the beach. The private beach is awesome but there is very little beach at high tide, so look at the tide charts to plan. The public beach is a little further away and parking is $25 They do have portable restrooms at the public beach. Exit 13 off RT 128 is where the house is, so it's a short drive north to downtown Gloucester where you will find everything you need. There is a small convenience store named Annie's, a good place to stop on the way to buy purple city mandated trash bags. There is also a lovely farm stand called Marshall's very close by where you can buy fresh local produce, eggs, marinated meats, baked goods, etc.
Accommodations: in a word, lovely. The house is very well maintained. No shoes are allowed inside and that is why it's so clean with beautiful wood floors. The large garage has a huge bedroom above with its own AC system that can easily sleep 3. The main floor has a half bath off the mud room, a large eat in kitchen, a dining room we never used, a large screened in porch overlooking the pond and a large living room with sectional sofa and huge TV. Downstairs is a nicely appointed recreation area with board games, pool table that turns into air hockey table, huge sectional sofa and another large color TV. Upstairs are 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths. The first bedroom has 2 sets of bunk beds that can sleep four. The second bedroom has a king bed. The master is huge and has a large walk in closet and en suite bathroom.
TIDBITS:
1- Trash- must be in purple bags for the city to take
2- temperature/ thermostat- locked at 73 for max lowest temp. I am used to setting it colder, so that was a challenge. I just turned the fan on higher and this enabled me to sleep comfortably
3- Golf Cart- in garage, pretty easy to operate, just make sure to charge it
4- kitchen- incredibly well appointed. They really have everything you need
We would rent again without reservation!!
My family and I loved our stay at Pete's beach house. The house is stunning. It is light, airy and super clean with an open floor plan and plenty of room. We were a family of ten and there was room to spare! The kids really enjoyed the game room. I fell in love with the enormous master bedroom. The kitchen is well stocked and has everything needed for a comfortable experience. Sitting in the sunroom at dusk watching the sun set over Sleepy Hollow Pond is relaxing and inspiring. The private beach is a short 5 minute walk. It was gorgeous and my kids actually found a seal playing on the beach in the sun.
Pete and his beautiful wife Tracy are a delight. They are super friendly and helpful. Pete was consistently prompt with any and all correspondence. Checking in and out was easy as pie. Pete was kind enough to allow me to throw a family gathering during my stay. It went off without a hitch and everyone raved about how amazing the house was.
To put it simply, I wish I could live here and be Pete's neighbor. I love it here.
We had visited the area for a college graduation for a member of our family. Everyone absolutely loved the stay and plan on coming back, and staying for a week in the summer. House was perfectly clean and fully stocked. The owner Pete is a pleasure to deal with. We cant say enough good things about our stay! 5 Stars all the way! Highly recommended & Top Notch!
