This was an outstanding property. We use vrbo a good bit and this home was the most well stocked we’ve ever seen. The location on the canal was perfect. The variety of wildlife we saw daily over 4 weeks was incredible. If you’re planning a trip to the 4x4 this is your place to be.

We had an amazing time, the home was lovely and very accommodating. So close to the beach you could walk if you wanted too, yet tucked away very nicely. My family had a wonderful time, thank you for everything. Amber, the host, was equally accommodating and went out of her way to take care of us, even after the visit. Thank you!!

This was our second stay at Cool Change. When we arrived it truly was an air-conditioned oasis with a full Japanese foot bath and beautifully lit shell garland greeting us. We especially enjoyed the kayaks and stand-up paddle boards this year and discovered how nice it was to hang out on the deck under the house (and use the hammock) on during the heat wave. Horses visited the yard regularly and we saw fish jump out of the canal and watched egrets, herons and osprey. All four of us and our dog are excited about returning again next year.

This house is just as pictured! Beautifully maintained and has all the extras you could possibly need for an incredible beach trip! There were enough kayaks for our family of 5 to go out for the day too. We loved seeing the horses visit daily. The screened in deck was great for morning coffee and watching the horses. The downstairs deck is perfect for enjoying meals and hanging out after a day at the beach. We really enjoyed our stay at this house!!

Our stay was excellent, the house was clean and very cozy. Our host helped with any questions we had quickly. It was a perfect week to see horses out on the beach. I counted over 50 horses on the beach in different groups in one day. We also saw horses around the house. Overall, this house is the perfect place to stay. Not many rentals offer as much as she does. Once we figured out the best way to travel on the beach and which mile post (21 or Firestation road) to take to get to our house it was fun traveling on the beach. First time, we were wondering what we got ourselves into. New experience for us driving on the beach and parking your truck on the beach while you are enjoying the beach. Highly recommend!

Beautiful home

I always travel with my two dogs. The host had dog water bowls full when we arrived. I’ve never had a host go to that length. The kitchen was well equipped! We have nothing negative about this host or home!

Picture Perfect

Can’t say enough positives about our stay at Cool Change. House is perfect location on the canal… beautiful sunsets every night. Short walk or drive to the beach. The house has everything you could possibly want or need. The screened in porch is perfect to share meals or just enjoy the tranquility of the canal. So many cute touches throughout the house from furnishings to decorations.Working with Amber was easy and she was super attentive. No one in our group had any complaints. Perfect vacation with family in a perfect location. We will definitely be back to Cool Change again soon.

Cool Change was Perfect During an Unexpected Heat Wave

Cool Change was an air conditioned oasis during an unusually hot week in June with every amenity you could want or need, including a water cooler and perfectly scented Ocean Breeze body wash. We still were able to enjoy the back and front porches (the latter of which managed to be cool every afternoon) and dinner on the deck underneath the house. The kayaks and stand up paddleboard made our week even more fun and we had daily horse sightings in the yard and canal, including under the house once. We already are looking forward to returning next June!

A Wonderful Experience

My husband, son, his wife, and granddaughter stayed at the house 7/5 till 7/12/25. The house was immaculate and had everything we needed to for our stay, and more. The house was located close enough to the beach that we could walk if not taking a load with us. Or could drive if we wanted to load up the beach chairs, cooler, and toys. As advertised, there was a small herd of horses that visited our yard at one time or another almost every day. If not, we saw horses on our walks or drives on the beach. Spent a lot of time on the back deck watching the wildlife on the canal. Fire and rescue close by sold tee shirts and ice if needed. This was our first visit to the Outer Banks, and would like to visit again in the future. Would definitely stay in this house again if available. Driving on the beach was quite an adjustment for us, but we were pros by the time we left for home! We even tried the kayaks one day, and very enjoyable.
