Palouse Falls in extreme Eastern Washington State is the official State waterfall. 198 foot drop into an emerald pool. Don't miss the upper falls, just a short hike from the main event.
I'm not going to say that I'm disappointed because I am surely not. The short road trip across Washington State was epic; so many different landscapes within 5 hours of the coast! My goal was to take "the one shot" of this waterfall. I have seen many images of this fantastical place since I discovered it while following a photography channel on YouTube (check out Nick Page if you want to see more of this area) and decided that I needed to take my best crack at it. Many photographers risk life and limb to get certain angles that, when you know the hazard involved, make them a little more impressive; however I also wish to return home safe and sound rather than in a thousand Zip-Loc bags so this is the view I "settle" for...no disappointment there! This is a hard place to photograph properly as I did not imagine the layout of this waterfall. You see all the waterfalls around my home fall "from" somewhere like the side of a mountain and not from one hole in the ground into an even deeper hole in the ground. This makes it hard to get good light unless you are doing this all in the middle of the day... YUCK!! So methinks there must be only one time of day on only several days of the year where conditions might be just right, at least that's what I have surmised. This makes me happy for the shots that I did get, going in at random and snapping away. Next time...
