‘Le Monument aux Girondins’ was built as a memorial to the Girondists, local politicians murdered during the French revolution (1793). Depicting a Statue of Liberty standing atop a large pillar and flanked by two pools containing spectacular statues, Le Monument aux Girondins is a striking memorial to the Reign of Terror. In 1943 the entire monument was dismantled in order to melt the statues for their 52-tons of bronze. But luckily all statues were found undamaged in the city of Angers at the Liberation in October 1944. #History

A storm brewing
It was a rainy day in Bordeaux, but the dull greys only seemed to add to the magic. This shallow pool called the Miroir D'eau - or the water mirror - was the perfect place to enjoy the rain.
