Creekside Cottage with Treehouse: Whimsy and Wonder in the Woods of Appalachia

  • If there is magic left in this world, you'll find it somewhere tucked back in Honeybell Hollow. A true representation of Southern Appalachia, The Summer House is set among moss covered meadows, native wildflowers, a spring fed pond, towering tulip poplars, and creeks on three sides. Every detail, from the antique fixtures to the vinyl record collection to the literature on the shelves, carries depth, story, and intention.

The Summer House is compact in the practical ways and spacious in the meaningful ways. The cabin itself consists of a living room, kitchen, and full bathroom the main floor and a 3 in 1 bedroom setup upstairs with an additional half bath. The kitchen is stocked with all the essentials including basic cooking supplies like olive oil, salt/pepper, etc. There is a working record player that comes with a curated selection of vinyl and doubles as a bluetooth speaker. And you won't need the wifi password (though we will obviously provide it) once you dig into the novels and poetry lining the built in bookshelves. The downstairs bathroom has a bath tub (thinking of you, parents of littles).

Upstairs, you will find a loft bedroom that creatively and cohesively contains a queen sized bed, and two twin beds. The twin beds snuck their way into the nooks and crannies with one existing as a built in sleeping cove and the other secretly folding out of the wall (we apologize in advance for the sibling quarrels about who sleeps in the wall bed.) High end, organic cotton and bamboo bedding, memory foam pillows of varying firmness and the most comfortable mattress you’ve ever slept on (objectively).

The real heart of the Summer House is the quintessential Appalachian porch big enough for dining, storytelling, dancing, and late night lingering. The porch overlooks a lush meadow of native wildflowers and ferns, a creekside fire pit with endless firewood and a s'mores kit provided, a fairy garden, and a babbling stream that feeds into the larger Barnes Creek on the south side of the property.

The property sits on acreage with access to a tree house, a hand-painted teepee, a creekside mud kitchen, loose parts play items, hammocks, a spring-fed pond, and an additional creekside fire pit.

The Summer House is designed with families in mind. Baby gates, children's books, a few wooden toys, a noise machine, etc. all provided. High chair available upon request.

20-30 minutes from downtown Blue Ridge, Blairsville, Murphy, NC and Hayesville, NC with easy access to portions of the Appalachian Trail including Blood Mountain, Vogel State Park, and more hidden waterfall swimming holes than we’re willing to name here.

You will enter the property through a shared driveway that splits off into a private driveway specific to The Summer House. Everything behind the garden gate, including the fire pit, fairy garden, creek, etc. are for your private use as guests at Honeybell Hollow. You are welcome and encouraged to venture past the garden gate into the larger "Mother Meadow", "Crooked Creek Beach", and "Treehouse Town" areas, but please note that our family also uses these spaces and they are considered shared/communal. This means you will likely see our children splashing in the creek or romping around in the treehouse. We love meeting our guests and sharing this special piece of land, so make yourself comfortable and feel free to explore all parts of the property excluding our personal, fenced in back yard and chicken coop area.

We believe in and kind of live for the little details that add up to life's true magic or meaning or whatever. Need us to co-conspire in planning a surprise engagement? Want us to decorate the treehouse for your child's birthday? We are honored to be brought into the fold of your story by helping to make much out of the little things. Reach out - we are more than likely down for your wild plans.

It should be noted that we have chickens and a needy poodle who will not intrude on your personal guest space but occupy and roam other communal parts of the property.
