"Heron Cottage" Walkers Paradise & Animaux acceptés

Le cottage Heron a été construit en 1862 et est un cottage en pierre de 1 chambre situé dans le magnifique village anglo-saxon de Witton le Wear. Du salon et de la chambre il y a une vue sur la rivière et les collines. Dans la cuisine, vous trouverez du thé, du café (instantané et un perc), du sucre, des dosettes de lait, des torchons et du liquide vaisselle.
À l'étage, il y a une chambre double avec antiallergie (couette et oreillers king-size fournis) et une salle de douche avec articles de toilette gratuits. Le chalet a un petit jardin avant avec des sièges.
Les animaux domestiques sont les bienvenus (max. 2)
La réserve de Low Barns se trouve à 300 mètres et le château de Witton est accessible à pied.
Un court trajet en voiture vous amène à Bishop Auckland, Hamsterly Forest, Durham, Barnard Castle et Shildon. Le château Barnard est le musée Bowes et de nombreux antiquaires. Newcastle se trouve à 50 minutes de Newcastle. Ou la magnifique côte du Northumberland. Ou une journée au musée en plein air Beamish vaut vraiment une visite. C'est également un excellent emplacement pour visiter "Kynren". À 5 minutes à pied, vous arriverez au vert du village où vous trouverez le Victoria, un bar et un restaurant modernes (les chiens sont les bienvenus dans une petite pièce à droite de l'entrée principale). Ou The Dun Cow, une auberge traditionnelle servant de la vraie bière.

The cottage was well equipped for 2 people.I doubt that the bedding is anti allergic, maybe it was once. The picture on Tv in the lounge was poor and the bedroom one could not receive all stations. The decor is very dated, with a few dog hairs and dead flies. There is NO WIFI despite the website and joining email indicating there is. We were told this was taken out as the property was being sold. Despite all this we enjoyed our stay and it was good value for the money.

Cute little Durham retreat

We love visiting the cottage. It has everything we need for a comfortable stay and is in an idyllic part of Durham. The views are breathtaking. The fire makes the whole cottage feel so cozy and homely. When you visit, try to remember it is over 100 years old so dont expect a "new build" - it has all the wrinkles of age, which make it endearing. We will be visiting again as soon as we can

Great Location and check in but no fridge or wifi

Great communication with property owner and easy to check in and out , unfortunately no wifi , dvd player wouldnt work , and fridge freezer wasnt working

Countryside and Family Heron has it all

The cottage is beautiful and cosy throughout and the setting is perfect. Witton le Wear is ideal with my parents only at Howden . The rooms are comfortabley furnished and in beautiful decor with character. The kitchen has all that you need and easy to use ,with plenty of storage . The shower works well once you remember too lower the showerhead to the floor to get the water running . After that it runs really well .. The surounding area is full of Wildlife and beauty, rolling farmland and Nature Reserves . And after an energetic day return to Heron Cottage for relaxation, what could be better . Would I recommend Heron Cottage YES Would I stay again YES

Cleaning

On arrival we were greeted by Nicky who was very friendly. Overall first impressions of cottage. Looked nice. We then came to put our food supplies away to find cupboards dirty inside. Crumbs all over from the toaster in another. Cutlery draw. Say know more. List can go on.The fridge had not had a clean for ages. Worktops with dried dirty food marks on them. Thankfully we had brought wipes with us. We left all our supplies in our own container's. Living room enough dust you could write your name on top of the fire place. Dining table still marked with dirty food. Let's go upstairs now bedroom. Dead fly's on covers under all the cushions on the bed and dusty. Noted cube 3 pin sockets plugged into extension leads. Dangerous overloads the extension cable. Wire hanging out of a plug. Bathroom. Toilet base not cleaned by look of in ages. Toiletry holder full of thick dust. Fan full of dust. 2nd night awake till 4am with the barking howling dogs next door and greeted each time we entered the place with a yard full of dog excretion in next doors yard. Good points. Overall the cottage is furnished well. Bed ok. Shower good. Lots of good points to the cottage. Seating comfortable. Bad points. Lacking a good deep clean. And I mean a deep clean. Understand the property is sold and possibly why it's not been looked after. But hey I've paid to stay and expect it to be clean. Can honestly say never stayed in such a dirty place. We should not need to clean down on arrival.

Lovely wee cottage.

We stayed for one week and were comfortable and warm. No wifi sadly but tv was fine. The stove with logs and sticks was so welcome on chilly evenings. The local pub The Victoria was so friendly with great ale. Just a short walk along a country path. A very enjoyable week.

Witton le wear is a gorgeous village and very much enjoyed exploring with our dog, disappointed with the cottage, although tidy not very clean at all, especially the kitchen, was almost like somebody had left just before we arrived, and not cleaned for a new arrival 🙁

Oh what a view

Great place for a base for both walking and driving.....two pubs in village (both shut on Monday) lovely homely feel this cottage with fantastic views from the front door/bedroom window....cosy log fire, great shower and a comfortable double bed... Nikki was also only a message or call away if needed any help with anything.. great friendly horse across the road who loves apples and carrots....and is called Cruze, we were also lucky enough to get a visit from a barn owl on the last night..... right in front of the door..., Great little break just what we needed.

Gorgeous little cottage

We had an amazing stay at the beautiful Heron cottage. It was like home from home and so lovely and cozy. Spotlessly clean and everything you needed. Enjoyed the log fire especially. Lovely location with beautiful views especially when you're lying in bed looking out of the window of a morning. Within distance of fantastic places and walking. Would definitely like to go back again.

needs a good clean

There where cobwebs every where and cleaning was basic the oven/grill was dirty. The description said tea towels were provided there wasn't any (luckily we had brought one with us) ample towels don't think one per person for a week is ample. The area was lovely, low barns nature reserve is well worth a visit. The Victoria inn was a nice place to go for a couple of drinks George Jess and the locals made us feel very welcome. Fir Tree Country hotel is great for food. Would return to the area, but sorry wouldn't stay at Heron Cottage again

The cottage was very dirty only the most basic cleaning. It looks like a quiet area with nice view but the heavy lorries using the road from early morning onwards made it very noisy. It wasn't possible to have a walk from the cottage because of the traffic it is a dangerous road.

Lovely little cottage perfect for couples

This was our third time staying here, we had a lovely four-night stay at Heron Cottage, both our dogs loved all the nearby walks and me and my partner enjoyed spending time by the river. The cottage had everything we needed for our break and the view from the bedroom is just stunning, we spent alot of time watching the sheep. Can't wait to return!
