The Neighborhood:
Oneroa is the heart of Waiheke and one of the easiest places on the island to stay. The village runs along Ocean View Road above Oneroa Bay, with cafés, restaurants, shops, and the beach all within a short stroll of each other.
For morning coffee and relaxed breakfasts, Wai Kitchen is a popular local choice, sitting above the bay and well suited to easy mornings with a view. Solar Eating House also works well during the day, offering a casual all-day menu in a sunny, garden-style setting.
For casual lunches, The Ocean View Kitchen & Bar is a central option for coffee, lunch, or a relaxed drink overlooking the village.
In the evenings, Oneroa has some of the island ’s most popular dining. Fenice is a long-standing Italian favourite serving pizza and pasta in a warm, welcoming space. The Oyster Inn sits in the centre of the village and is known for its seafood-focused bistro menu, cocktails, and lively atmosphere.
Oneroa is also close to two of Waiheke’s best-known vineyards. Mudbrick Vineyard & Restaurant sits just above Church Bay and offers refined dining in a garden setting with expansive harbour views. Nearby, Cable Bay Vineyards combines estate wines with modern Mediterranean-style food and views back towards Auckland.
A short drive or bus ride from Oneroa brings you to Onetangi and The Heke, a relaxed brewery and grill known for wood-fired dishes, burgers, and local craft beer, with a lively atmosphere on weekends.
With beaches, wineries, cafés, and the ferry all close by, Oneroa is one of the most convenient and well-connected bases on Waiheke for guests who want to explore the island without spending their holiday in the car.
Getting Around:
Buses run regularly across the island, with routes from Onetangi stopping close to the major wineries including The Heke, then continuing through Ostend and into Oneroa, before connecting to the Matiatia passenger ferry.
If you’re driving, there is easy off-street parking at the cottage. Taxis and rideshare services are available, though they can be limited during peak times.

Smiths Cottage is adults-only and sits in a peaceful residential area.
