Host never provided an access key and was unresponsive
Never received our access key to the unit. We arrived from our flights and drove over to the unit only to find out that we had no access to the unit. We messaged the host with no response. We called the host multiple times only to get their voice mail.
We ended up calling VRBO customer service who set us up at a hotel for which VRBO will cover for one night, offered a free refund and to arrange a new reservation. We stayed at a small one room hotel and received an email the following day staying VRBO couldn't find a new reservation for us and that we would be responsible for making our own arrangements.
We ended up hotel hoping the rest of our trip at high costs due to last minute bookings.
I did finally receive a callback from the host the following day and she apologized and then asked if we were still wanting to check in. I told her that we've already settled our new arrangements and didn't want to add anymore complexity to an already complicated situation.
I think I will stick with hotels from now on. This was unacceptable. If you're offering a service where people are committing their money and planning a long distance trip out to your place, You have a professional duty to make sure you hold up your end of this transaction. If not, you should stay out of this business.
