So disappointing, for starters the pool is not on the property and is a six minute drive so it’s inconvenience when you don’t have a car with you because you have to book an Uber back and forth or otherwise it’s a 48 minute walk. Also when you get to the Roko gym they give you vouchers for, a towel each is £15, otherwise you have to bring your hotel towel and bring back the towel to the hotel , which is so inconvenient! No bathrobe provided as stated so bring your own if you want! The hotel is outdated and our floor had the hallway with mould on the ceilings and there was even a hole with a bucket filled with dripping water underneath! The cleanliness is appalling with dirty light switches, broken side frames, broken cupboard inside the room, broken window in bedroom meaning pain in hot weather in the night, no AC or fan in room so boiling, broken toilet flush so have to push down gently because hanging off and shaky lift with worn out unsafe conditions!! Also, when we went there was machine noise from outside going on like a lawn mower throughout the night and even the morning after! Only good things are the staff at reception who tried to raise issues with manager, the staff in the restaurant and the breakfast!

From the outside and when you went into reception it looked good, once you passed through and went up a floor then in changed like a time warp, carpets dirty and smelly, marks on wall one towel in a family room £118 overpriced by around £70 breakfast dry and cold will i return definitely not.

This was for an overnight stay whilst visiting York. I did anticipate that the Mercure Fairfield Manor Hotel would be a slight upgrade from your everyday Premier Inn but was slightly dissappointed with the condition of our hotel room/bathroom. The furniture was antiquated & worn, the toilet handle was hanging off & the bath tap was constantly dripping. The thermostat on the wall for temperature regulation was not working correctly so it was either very cold or stiflingly hot & the radiator was actually turned off when we first arrived. We were also placed in a room that was right next to where the working staff would wheel large bins past us which made for noisy early morning/evening! On a positive note, the breakfast was ample & well attended by the friendly culinary members of staff.

The hotel was in a good locationand although it offered the opportunity to use a local health club facilities on site would be an improvement. The staff were very helpful and all very polite and had smiley faces. We had breakfast and evening meal in the hotel for all 5 days. I woykd suggest the the dining room seemed a bit chilly as the air conditioning was on. The food was all very good with plenty of choice all cooked to a good standard. We took advantage of the 2 courses for £18 evening meal but there was some confusion when we paid the bill which i had to question as some meals gadnt been charged at the correct rate(£36 for 2 people) I think it was because some food was in the offer some was not. The old system they had where all food was in the offer but certain foods had an additional cost( eg steak) the staff said was more straight forward. Having said the the food bill was sorted to our satisfaction. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitly return and consider Mercure hotels for future breaks

Clean and comfortable. Loved the little touches in the room, e.g. Earl Grey Tea, coffee machine, bottled water, fluffy towels, comfortable mattress. It was these little touches around food and drinks which would make me recommend staying here.

Paid £320 for a 2 night stay. Room was very dated and hasnt been upgraded for a very long time ( decor suggest 1980s ) staff not helpful at desk, I asked if she had info on bus services to city centre, she replied thats not her job and that id have to go online and google it

The centre of York was easy to reach, nice and serene location. We would have given 5 stars when the cleaning staff had not messed up: 1 day not cleaning the room but tagging it off on their working list. Next day only partly cleaning the room and putting some content of the bin as display in the room. (revenge?). The first failure was apologised for by the receptionist who gave us a free drink voucher to make up for the mistake. Just a pity that the bartender started to refuse the voucher initially when he saw it, even before I could order anything. What the staff behind the front desk tries to “rescue” is ruined by other service staff members: here is some improvement possible. If this hadn’t happened, we would rated the hotel 5 starts for our 5 nights stay.

Cant fault the hotel itself but on several occasions my wife and i were (in our opinion) deliberately over charged every time we ordered food or short changed ar the bar! This was always by the evening staff and im not sure if this is there way of bumping up their wages.

Recent short notice stay at this hotel. We were warned about the work going in the bar/restaurant area. Good points were friendly and helpful staff and decent quality food. The breakfast was being served in what looked like a meeting room and was typical full English hotel breakfast, but perfectly fine. We ordered room service in the evening using their app. Food was delivered quickly and hot. Really good quality, if a little pricey. The hotel is also in a useful location with attractive grounds and plenty of parking. WiFi was fast and easy to connect to. The main downside, however, was the standard of the room and the general decor of the communal areas. The room was well below the standard of a 4 star hotel and the bathroom very tired - the sticker on the heated towel rail stating it had failed electrical inspection was particularly unimpressive. Toilet didn't flush very well and the sink was very slow to drain. Overall, not a terrible stay by any means but difficult to recommend in its current state. Does look as if the company is starting to modernise, however and it is in a good location for the north side of York

Overall a very pleasant stay. It is a shame that the renovations are impinging in the lounge etc. One small thought, attention to the beverages in the room. We had 2 teabags/coffee/sugar,for a 2 people/2 night stay. Reception helped us out.

Great stay with our dog
The best front of house person, really friendly and helpful. We had our dog with us and there were snakcs and water in reception.

This is our 3rd stay here. We've stayed in the centre of the city before but most places are small. The rooms here are spacious and quiet. There is a footpath that takes you across fields and along the river, straight into the city. It takes about an hour. The walk is part of our routine as we really enjoy it. There is also a bus stop straight outside the hotel. We have never caught it before, but on our first night we had a table booked at a restaurant in the city. We waited at the stop but the bus didnt arrive. We went back to the hotel and the friendly man behind the desk advised us to use the park and ride, about a 10 minute walk down the road. It was perfect. We'll definitely stay again. Thank you. (Review by Kerry, David's wife).
