Nice, clean but nothing special. Not 5-star.

Publié le 24 mars 2014
Les + : Very clean, with polite staff who mostly spoke excellent English (not that unusual in Paris these days).
Les - : Mattresses were saggy, blankets rather manky, breakfast was passable but nothing special. Definitely not 5-star standard.
Situation : Very close to the Metro (3 stations). Very near St Germain des Pres and St Sulpice neighbourhoods with many restaurants, cafes and shops.
I travelled with my teen-aged daughter and we stayed 3 nights. We have both been to Paris many times and are not excessively demanding customers. I booked the Victoria Palace entirely on the basis of the Expedia "Guest Rating" of 5 out of 5. While I do not have major criticisms of the hotel, it is not by any stretch a 5-star hotel (either in terms of hotel rating or guest rating). As noted by other reviewers, it is on a very quiet street, well-decorated, very clean with friendly staff who speak excellent English. The room was generously sized and the bathroom was very large for a European hotel. We also noticed that the hotel was largely empty and therefore extremely quiet. But considering we paid the top rack rate for our room, and that is is rated a 5-star hotel, I would emphatically state that it is not value for money. If it had cost half the rate, then, yes it was great. But at the price we paid, the service we received was adequate, the breakfast passable but nothing special, the comfort level tolerable. The staff were very unhelpful when there was difficulty with a taxi driver they had booked for us. I was charged twice the normal rate and there was no attempt to rectify or have my money refunded to me. I was very disappointed in how this was handled, and then at check-out it was not addressed at all. I have written a separate letter to the manager and hope that attention will be paid by him.

Excellent, convenient hotel

Les + : The staff.
Les - : I prefer softer mattresses but that's an individual gripe.
Situation : Central. I would normally stay on the North Bank, but this hotel has better metro connections than many on that side and is far better value.
This hotel is well worth its rating. It is South Bank, in central Montparnasse, close to the three direct metro stations {no changes) for speedy access all major tourist attractions. It is in a very quiet side street., well served with adequate restaurants and excellent shops of all kinds. It is smallish, with staff who attend eagerly to every need. Décor is chintzy, with fabric (not wallpaper) on the walls matching the curtains in bedrooms and late Empire style pictures and furnishings in public areas.. I really couldn't fault it, though our mattress was on the now fashionable firm side we didn't find that uncomfortable. Strongly recommended.

Les - : The WIFI access was complicated and the breakfast was pricey -- both should be included.
Situation : Excellent location, access to multiple metro stations.
The Victoria Palace hotel does NOT disappoint. Our room was beautiful, extremely clean and comfortable. The hotel staff is professional, polite and very helpful. Loved out stay at the Victoria Palace hotel!

great location and decor

We loved the location in st germain de pres - close to plenty of bars / restaurants so reservations not always required. Great range of shops too. Lovely area to walk through to get the the Seine, Louvre, Eiffel Tower. We loved the hotel as we could all fit in 1 room comfortably (2 adults and 2 children) and it was lovely parisian decor. Staff were friendly and helpful and buffet breakfast fairly standard.

I had a junior suite that was very spacious with a marble tiled bathroom. The friendly staff was very helpful in giving transportation and other advice. Location is great. Stone throw distance of FNAC great electronics shop, and a convenience store for basic food and necessities. 10-15 minutes walking distance to Blvd Montparnasse with a high concentration of restaurants like: Leon (Belgian mussels and pork knuckle), Relais de l'Entrecote (steak frites), Hippotamus (giant 600 gr ribeye steak), le Coupole (historic French restaurant), Chez Bebert (Moroccan). Shopping could be done at the Gallerie Lafayette at the same road. Safe area.
