Excellent, great stay

Lovely little ryokan in a traditional street. Staff very attentive and friendly, food excellent, nice (but small) onsen. Not particularly central, but a pleasant walk up the river to Gion and downtown. Wonderful experience of proper Japanese hospitality

Welcoming traditional ryokan

Publié le 21 août 2014
Situation : This inn is a convenient location for getting out to explore around Kyoto with a station very close by and Gion just a short walk away. Highly recommn
On arrival and each time we returned from exploring Kyoto people materialised from nowhere to welcome us in and welcome us back...a refreshing iced tea and cake were never far behind. I loved the traditional rooms and had a really comfortable nights sleep. I was at first amused by and quickly a commited convert to Japan's hi tech bathroom ablutions and Seikoro didn't disappoint, despite the simple traditional style of the restfo the inn and its fittings.

Classic ryokan service and cuisine

Publié le 16 juil. 2014
Les + : The dedication of the staff.
Les - : Slight street noise in rooms on west (river) side, although we slept soundly.
Situation : Walking distance to many sights in southern Higashiyama; walk to Keihan rail stop.
Ryokan Seikoro was a memorable experience, highlights being the impeccable service, flawless cuisine and excellent public baths.

very nice place. We had a very spatious room with a small living room next to it. Nice welcome and a huge traditional japonese smiley service. However, the breakfast was way too expansive for what it held, specially the western one: 30$ for coffee or tea, a glass of orange juice, with 2 small croissants, marmalade, and a small plate of fresh fruits. So better choose the japonese one, or get some food from the next store the night before.

Lovely traditional ryokan

Publié le 12 juin 2014
Les + : Staff, traditional historic feel.
Situation : Near Gion and within walking distance to numerous interesting sights. Subway close by.
Had a great time at Seikoro. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. Room was quite nice, although not a very economical option with meals included. Food was very good, with even better presentation!

Legit Kyoto

Publié le 20 mai 2014
Les + : Staff - amazing! Can speak english, so attentive & very friendly - atmosphere was so cute, as you'd expect from Japan - the onsen was amazing
Les - : Japanese futon is a stiff sleep if you're not used to it, but that is most likely a western cultural adjustment I need to make.
Situation : Easy to get around, close to Temples & Shrines & great experience for those seeking Japanese culture. 2 stations away from Kyoto downtown
This place was great - loved it so much - very close to the train station - easy to get around, close to Temples & Shrines & great experience for those seeking Japanese culture.

A life experience

Publié le 27 avr. 2014
Les + : The experience and the service. The onsen was very nice too.
Les - : No much.
Situation : Easy walking distance to many of the shrines and temples. Pretty close to subway station.
We had a fantastic stay at this ryokan which was truly a complete experience. Everyone went out of their way to make us welcome and our maid was so sweet and awesome. We did the meal plan, which we loved (although you should be warned that dinner is a multi hour experience). The building is older and shows some of those signs, but this gives it its own character. The room comfort of 4 is probably more on me, I got tired of sitting on the floor with the traditional japanese setting - but the floor futons slept very comfortably. The onsen was very nice, especially after a day of walking, but there is no garden view as others we enjoyed had. Free wifi access was very useful.
