Excellent experience overall, wonderful staff
Gorgeous hotel in a beautiful location, short walk in to the village. Hotel staff were excellent, very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was very good quality, and a great choice. Evening meal absolutely delicious. Spa (aromatherapy massage) was fantastic. Pool area was a little tired - pool was a little colder than ideal, and the button to activate the jacuzzi didn’t seem to work. Also would recommend better pillows as the ones provided were a bit unyielding. But all in all, good value for money and a lovely experience, would definitely visit again.

Great New Forest reyrrat
Had a few days with my son at the Balmer Lawn and had a great time. Kid friendly but also respectful to other guests. Outdoor facilities were great and the staff couldn’t do enough to make us welcome and catered for.

Not for vegans!
Pleasant with good service. Unfortunately the room was extremely hot and only a small oscillation fan was provided. Very disappointed that there was only 1 vegan option on the menu for the Berisford restaurant which meant we had to travel further afield to eat.

Very nice stay for a birthday getaway, lovely weather so the outside pool was a must, so nice and relaxing! Room was great, needs a little updating but would definitely stay here again!

We only stayed for one night to attend a wedding but it was really wonderful. The reception staff were so friendly and welcoming and also very helpful. Our room was very comfortable, quite warm but electric fans are available . Our ensuite bathroom bigger then our one at home. We managed to fit in afternoon tea as well which was delicious It was a treat to stay at Balmer Lawn and the location is beautiful

Staff at check in friendly. But not asked or informed about breakfast. Cons - Room lacking dressing mirror, drawers for clothes hanging for outdoor coats and very limited wardrobe space. Attending for a wedding so felt this is a must for me and let’s the room down. Cold water tap let’s hardly any water out. Double bed is firm and not big enough for my six foot tall husband. Room is dated and clearly had animals in it - bathroom not very clean as dusty ledges / sides. Buffet breakfast- eggs were rubbery and inedible, bacon dried out so inedible, black pudding and hash browns cold. Fab big mushrooms tho luke-warm as were the tomatoes. Sausages ok. Some basic choice for continental offer. Ability to slice and cook your own toast. Masks / gloves not required. Pros - coffee tea making in room and opening windows as room is nice and warm. You can borrow wellies and the lounge and dining areas are comfortable and relaxed. Dog friendly site - tho listening to a barking dog early morning is not my favourite way to wake.

1st room view dire. Some staff lacked training: anticipating needs; initiative. Others very good. We had to cajole afternoon tea as we had just missed time slot. Very good family hotel. Breakfast average. As a non pork eater I objected to paying extra for salmon. Lunch outside very good.

It is a very nice hotel but the pools are badly designed, the indoor one is an odd shape, and the outdoor one has shallow steps which cut the useable length down to about 6m, so it is not somewhere you can swim proper lengths, however they make it look on the website. it's really just for small kids to splash about, and very nice from that point of view.

The hotel has great facilities, staff were amazing but the room we had was quite stuffy and warm even though the weather was not. With the amount we've paid, we've probably would expect a little bit more.

Can't wait to go back.
Our stay was so good that we instantly booked up to return for our anniversary in October. We have stayed all over the World in hotels and I honestly don't think we have ever received such great service. The Reception Manager Phillip Bunney was particularly attentive and helpful. The room was very good too, hotel was very clean, location great, amenities very good only one minor negative was that the bar and restaurants were a little on the pricey side but wasn't too much of a bother. Already looking forward to going back.

Good Morning and thank you for your review. Our Hotel was built in the 1880's and sadly cannot be adapted to include a climate control system. Extremes in the weather can create an environment that can be too hot or cold for some of our guests. We recognize this and do our best supplying fans or heaters. The Hotel recently received planning permission to build over thirty modern rooms and these will be located on the site of the outdoor pool. We are aware that this area is looking dated, but we have no plans to invest further in this area prior to its permanent closure. We look forward to welcome you back.

The hotel has put in place good procedures for social distancing and dealing with COVID 19, however these need time to bed in. There are many occasions when the staff seem unsure of processes and although there were many staff on duty we waited each time we required attention. The room was small and hot but had all we needed. Overall a nice stay, restaurant was excellent and we would return.

Excellent staff very friendly and helpful. Food was lovely, although they should include bread rolls in their continental breakfast. Unfortunately their Doombar beer was not very good tasted like the pipes needed cleaning. Lovely spa treatments, I would recommend staying there to anyone. Room was very nice and clean but the view was a bit mundane.

Nice hotel in a lovely setting but disappointed to be given a room with missing light bulbs and no air con when the temperature outside was 33! Staff were very friendly but service was lacking - Prosecco served at room temperature, two bookings for swimming pool 'lost', worryingly, no cleaning of outdoor swimming pool area, sun loungers etc between sessions

Dear Cathy Thank you for your feedback. The hot weather has not suited some of our guests, but sadly our hotel does not have air conditioning and have never made this claim. I do apologise that our maintenance standards appear to have gone amiss in your room and hope you brought this to our attention and that it was resolved? I would question your assertion that the pool is not cleaned, it is completed by an automated unit during the night and the loungers and surrounded area are cleaned each hour. I agree that warm Prosecco is far from ideal and apologise that this was your experience. It would be my hope that we can welcome you back and please contact us direct at the start of your planning

cupboard size room with no room service
I booked the room from hotels.com (expedia). I booked the standard room from the site which in the hotel's interpretation was a cupboard with a bed and a window looking at a wall! (not even in London I get small rooms liek that). Claimed to be newly decorated, but the room appeared tired with dirty walls and questionable cleanliness. No aircondition on the hottest day of the year made it impossible to sleep. The room was not serviced at all throughout our stay (the excuse was that we had to declare that at checkin(!!!) and they have informed us about that at checkin (not the case)). Overall a bad stay better to be avoided, so many nice hotels in New Forest.

Good Morning Mr Hatzakis I would usually welcome all feedback, both positive or negative. However, feedback should be both fair and accurate. Our Hotel has pictures of every room including the view from the window. This level of transparency is unusual. You chose to book a small standard room not a standard room. To describe this as a cupboard is simply ridiculous. You informed us upon arrival that you wished to be accommodated in one of our best rooms. This would have required you to book the style of room that would meet your expectations! Our Hotel is within a delightful building built in the 1880's and it is not possible to add climate control. We do not claim air conditioning bed rooms, so such feedback is not relevant. As we wish to maintain a Covid Secure environment, we took the decision not to service rooms in June and this has been visible on our website from this time. I believe it is a reasonable expectation in these difficult times that all of us are making sure we are comfortable in any environment away from our homes. The front page of our website includes a link that informs our guests about every part of their stay. I would note again that your feedback is simply inaccurate and also fails to note advice from HMG about household 'bubbles'. Your departure included a threat to write a poor review and I will leave others to interpret the fairness or other motivation for such a comment.

Amazing service even with all the Covid measures! They really knew how to make your stay special and took all the appropriate measures needed without making it feel clinical. Excellent service and food! This was our first visit out and I’m so glad we came here!

Lovely Hotel
Stayed for two nights during half term with my partner. The staff were very friendly and helpful. A lovely hotel which is setup nicely to cope with couples and families.

Generally a good hotel with a mix of traditional and contemporary decor. Food - breakfast and dinner superb. Visit let down by an average room for the quality of the hotel/price with scaffolding immediately outside window, items from previous guest left in bathroom by mistake, no wardrobe and shower verging on unusable as temparature very high. Pool area average - very shallow and looking a bit tired. In summary, quite a good hotel let down by staff oversights. Other hotels offer much better value/quality for money. Highly recommend a lunch of meal there, however!

An anonymous review is always difficult to reply too as we do like to create a lasting relationship with our guests. I believe the guests stayed in Room 5 which enjoyed a full refurbishment in recent years. At time of writing, there is scaffolding in use as one of our partners is upgraded the communications mast for the emergency services. We have chosen to maximise the floor space available and not added a wardrobe.. It is fair to write that this decision is not always popular. I regret that we were not made aware of any problems with the shower during your stay as I am confident a solution would have been found. As an independent family hotel, we have always invested in improving our business. The level of investment has never been higher than across the past five years. We have exciting plans for our leisure facilities, which we acknowledged will benefit from new investment. However, large capital investment must be done carefully and ensure that the Balmer Lawn Hotel is part of the New Forest for many years. I am disappointed that our usual high level of housekeeping was not present, but delighted you enjoyed dining with us.
