We stayed for a long weekend and had the best stay. We took our 2 year old and our miniature poodle. The hotel was really accommodating for both of them. It’s a great location, walkable to all the attractions and easy to park up. The hotel is very clean but the rooms are a little dated.

My overall rating would have been Higher if I had been in a different room. There was a noisy humming sound that went all night and it made it difficult to sleep. I also couldn’t open my window and get fresh air as smokers would stand near it and the smoke came straight into my room. The staff could be a little friendlier. However the young Man on reception who checked me in was lovely.

The hotel is rather dated and needs a but of investment, i have stayed in many historic hotels which are great but this seems to be stuck inbetween the 2 and for me doesn't work. The staff were all amazing and breakfast was very nice but the decor and rooms left a lot to the imagination. Also had issues with the computers to register the car and the shower gel and shampoo bottles were empty in the bathroom

There is nothing unique or special about this Hotel. It is expensive and overrated and the rooms are very average and need updating, as does the hotel.

How expensive the food & drinks were. Had to ask for the heating being put on in the room .The room was cold. Having to pay for the car-park daily is very bad But worse being asked to pay for the carpark on leaving ,I hadn't used the car park .Also being asked to pay for Continental breakfast that i hadnt had. The receptionist saying infront of other people in reception , that she'd got written down that id had tea & refused to pay for it. Obviously she had been misinformed, but it was no excuse for the rude way she spoke to me. The fact was it was my friend who ordered the tea ( she was under a different room number to me ) When the waitress informed us that we would be charged for breakfast we told her to cancel it, that we wasnt paying £18 for two cups of tea . The tea was never brought to the table. Apart from the recepton staff on leaving , the rest of the staff were really nice & polite. I doubt i would stay in a Macdonald hotel again.

I got charged £7 to park but was only informed of the charge the night before our stay, and not when I booked. The swimming pool was far too cold. There was a surcharge of £5 for scrambled egg and smoked salmon and eggs Benedict, which is ridiculous!

LIKES: 1: We stayed on the top floor of the Coach House [the Hayloft]. The room was delightful: large, quiet, oak-beamed, clean, with a huge super-King double. 2: Reception was quick and friendly, and the Bar was quiet and comfortable 3: Breakfast was comprhensive; the eggs were done "just right". 4: The swimming pool and sauna were large and well-equipped. Right temperature; not too muc chlorine 5: The disposable slippers were a nice touch DISLIKES 1: No tea-making facilities in the room 2: Shower controls were incomprehensible, and didn't produce warm water 3: Carpets in public spaces were dull and tired 4: Many breakfast options were charged a supplement, on top of an already 'stiff' base price. 5: The dressing gowns provided were far too small. They didn't even cover my girlfriend,who is normal size 6: Parking was expensive, and far from the room. There were spaces close by, which we weren't told about OVERALL A four-star hote, that could - given the generally friendly and helpful staff - reach five star standards . . . . . . . were it not for the dead hand of MacDonald Hotels overall management

Great staff and location.
We were in a lovely room James Bond + 1. Stunning room, unique sloping floors, separate sitting room, TV's in bedroom and lounge, great Elemis bathroom products. Only real downside, the bedroom is right above the hotel lounge. Last night really loud group were heard through the floor and believe me we could hear every word. Just feel some soundproofing or signage asking for quiet after a certain time would help. But it us a great hotel with great staff and superb location for the Christmas Market, about 5/10 minute walk dependent on your speed. Highly recommended.

Underwhelming.
Underwhelming. Difficult to find the car park entrance in the dark, staff seemed distracted by setting up xmas decorations. Bed was. NOt comfortable, shower was luke warm water. We left a day early and reception didn’t even ask why or check everything was ok- to me that summed it up perfectly.

Living on past glories
We have often driven past this hotel when visiting family in Stratford upon Avon and thought that one day we would stay there as from the outside it looks elegant. The approach to the hotel and the public areas lead you into a state of high anticipation, however the rooms leave a lot to be desired. Accepting that the 'deluxe' rooms are located in the original Tudor building, you can live with the creaky and uneven floors, but the quality of the room was poor. Beige everywhere made a dark room darker, the enamel in the bath was chipped and cracked, the room was cold as the radiators didn't work, the bed was small and not very comfortable. The only positive was the food in the bar. A bubble truly burst.

Very Dissatisfied
Requests were for a per free room. On arrival were checked into a room that had had pets in and the allergies started immediately. We were told that all rooms except the premium rooms would have had pets in but would have been deep cleaned. In fairness we did get moved but by this point the allergy had taken hold. We then went to the bar/restaurant area for a meal and what I was amazed to find, they allowed pets in the eating area. Thats one thing, but to allow them to sit on the furniture is outrageous. No way that can be deep cleaned each time. Hasten to say, that it was not a great experience and had to leave to go to the room. Didnt really enjoy the meal because.of this. Having stayed there a number of times before I was really surprised to see this being allowed. Rooms and hotel was very cold and ither guests at breakfast complained too. Speaking of the breakfast. Alot of money to pay out to then have £5 surcharges on, lattes and ither items on the menu butbif you wanted porridge that was the same pri e as a full english ??? Really ??. Overall, not happy at all with this trip for what the cost was...not great value for money
