You stayed at Volcano Hale. Volcano Hale is a shared property and as such, may experience noise and busy times more so than non-shared facilities. The rooms are efficiency sized and smaller than average. Volcano Hale is a historic property offering basic or simple features for the modest traveler looking for adventure in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. As a basic, historic property, Volcano Hale is our only property offering shared bathroom and kitchen facilities. The property has a rustic, "dated" style true to its era. Although this style may not appeal to all travelers, we're happy to be of service to those travelers that own a travel style with an appreciation for simplicity, self service, and shared areas. It’s unfortunate that this issue wasn’t brought to our attention the moment it was noticed. Unfortunately, it was brought to our attention on the morning of check-out. We quickly sent out the following reply “Thank you! This is very valuable. While we haven’t had a problem, it is best to address these early on! I will take care of this. Again, thank you for thoughtfully letting me know and travel safely.” We do apologize if our reply wasn’t what you were expecting. While uncommon due to our climate, roaches do make their way from the coastal areas up the mountain to our area. Once noticed, they are quickly taken care of.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts! Volcano Village is one of the most remote communities on of the more remote Hawaiian Islands: compounded remoteness. It is located at the entrance of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. It's no secret: yes, it is astonishingly expensive for facilities in our area to do what we do. We really do try to control costs as much as possible. We appreciate all of your observations and we'll see if any of them can be mitigated. E.g., perhaps our central trash bin is not as obvious as it could be; we'll take another look. :) Dehumidifiers get rid of "soggy" in a rainforest. However, if the noise from the machine is too much for anyone, remember it is your room and you are free to turn anything on or off as you please. The machine is not essential for air quality, so whether it is off or full of water from a very humid day, please don't give it a second thought. Thank you so much and Aloha
