To avoid absolutly
Bedroom was very old, furnitures were dilapidated with uncomfortable mattress. We had to ask for towels which were no provided. All for an astronomical Price , 162 pounds per night without breakfast. It is a shame to propose this hôtel on your site. To avoid absolutly. It is theft!

It’s interesting how people have different views. You were already upset before you even checked in, I’m guessing that you’ll not enjoy your holiday at all with all the negative energy you cart around with you. As you can see from all our other reviews our rooms are perfectly comfortable and serviceable, albeit a bit dated. And you chose to book room only, so why complain about it? Read your reservation terms before you book. We remain the cheapest hotel in the area so perhaps the highlands is out of you price range?

Simple et très convivial
Nous avons passé un très bon séjour dans cet hôtel (2 nuits) qui est aussi le bar du village, d’où un peu de bruit le soir. Les chambres sont simples mais confortables et surtout l’accueil y est très chaleureux. Les petits déjeuners sont très bons. Bref, hôtel qui mérite qu’on s’y arrête.

Rien à dire sur la propriété. Juste un peu surpris de ce qui était décrit comme des "Chambres" puisqu'il ne s'agissait que de "Pods" ==> en d'autres mots, Expedia m'a vendu des chambres d'hôtel et je me suis retrouvé dans une tente de camping améliorée. Par ailleurs, le prix Expedia est à peu près deux fois plus élevé que ce qui est proposé sur place ==> bonjour la marge !! En résumé, sur place : belle endroit, des personnes très sympathiques et arrangeantes; Expedia = complètement nul à la limite de l'arnaque. C'était ma première expérience et certainement la dernière.

It’s a 154 old property so it carry’s a lot of history. The owners make this place special. They are very welcoming. The bar and restaurant are very cozy. It’s overpriced but is the reality of being close to the isle of skye.

There was no internet in the room. The only way to get internet was to sit in the restaurant and that was also really slow. The bed had no top sheet only a fitted sheet bottom. You have to assume they wash the comforter after every guest stay. I would be surprised if they did. Big weighty comforter.

Christine, Christine…. What a pleasure it was to host you for the first 3 hours you were here, enjoying the local live folk music, followed by a lovely meal and great chat with the other visitors and locals. Then you went upstairs for a rest and came back downstairs later, demanding that you be given the code for the Wi-Fi network that you could see in your room. As I calmly tried to explain to you that we don’t provide Wi-Fi in the rooms (no fibre here, only copper wire, so we try to manage the number of connections to allow at least some service to customers), you began to rant about needing to make an important business call and you would be taking this to the ‘powers that be’….. I remained calm, whilst wondering what type of business you run that you need to make a very important call on a Sunday evening after eight double gin and tonics, explaining that I am the owner and you were free to discuss any grievances you may have with me. A few mumbles and then you were off. Rest assured you provided a wealth of entertainment to the other patrons in the restaurant at that time who enjoyed your display. It brought them all together and they had a wonderful night. So thank you for that. Regarding your other points:1. Yes, no internet in our rooms, so please don’t book if you need this.2. It is perfectly normal in Europe to have duvets on beds, they are not ‘comforters’. They have a cover which is detached and laundered after every stay.Just to be clear, you are rating us as 1 out of 5 because you couldn’t get an internet connection in your room. You do realise that everyone who reads this review will realise that?

The price for the night is too elevated for what you receive. For almost €170 the amenities, bathroom, bed, etc should be better. No wifi. Few Spaces for parking.

Not exactly sure what you expect to pay but we are definitely amongst the cheapest hotels in the area and there’s no Aston Martin parked in my garage…. Maybe go to Benidorm instead? There’s cheaper rooms there…

Strathcarron Hotel 16/18 Sept Booked for location Breakfast unnecessary. Very disappointed with Room 3. Poor lighting in room and bathroom. Tiny bathroom suitable for one person at a time and unheated. Both blinds were stained. Room decoration very tired. On arrival there were 3 teabags in our room. On second night I went to the bar and asked for more teabags and milk. I was met with “Oh did you use them all last night?” “We don’t do housekeeping”. He would arrange for some to be brought to room 3. I said “oh, ok, thank you”and as I walked away he called out to my back “You’re welcome” . As the 2 men at the bar immediately laughed I assumed he made some gesture. We were given 12 teabags, milk, and two biscuits. Can only assume room stock was not checked prior to our arrival at the property. In reality it was a very high price for what a basic tired room only venue. A fee of £80 per night would be more appropriate and inline with Room 3. We had to ask for heating to be turned on as it was cold in our room. Second night, heating was already turned on. Wi-Fi in room 3 did not exist, thank goodness it was “free”. Website clearly states twice that they provide Daily Housekeeping but in actuality, they don’t as we found on returning to our room after our day out. Our bed was unmade and teabags and milk were not replenished. Whatever we asked for was provided. A socket was standing away from the wall. Refund required for miss selling. Awful room.

This review is just lies. They were awful customers. Please read all our other reviews and decide if you’d like to stay here. We don’t want customers like this so if you are going to be them then please don’t book. Ive asked for this review to be removed because it is incorrect, but Expedia won’t remove it.

Been waiting for your review… we all had a good laugh at you in the pub. Rude and condescending was the view of us all. I knew when you checked in you’d be a one star. Should’ve sent you away lol. When was the last time you had nice time and smiled? Probably a long time ago…. Don’t come back. Please!! Go and grumble at someone else

Becca and Richard are the greatest of hosts. Warm, inviting, I truly felt like I was home as did my daughter. Becca has a sophisticated and quick wit and Richard gave us a beautiful big room with the most stunning view. Dinners were excellent as was the conversation. This sounds unreal but I assure you it was and Becca and Richard are authentic and lovely. We left a heart made of rocks on their wall.

Thank you for a lovely stay! We had misunderstood the restaurant times, and were delighted when Becca and Richard said they would keep the kitchen open until we arrived - even more delighted with the absolutely wonderful cooking! The hotel is old-fashioned but clean and the beds were extremely comfortable, so just what we wanted. Breakfast was just perfect. There are one or two places that we will always book if they are available, and the Strathcarron has now been added to that very select list! Looking forward to next time!

The only negative with the Strathcarron is that it's an older building that hasn't been remodeled. This is the case with most of the buildings in the highlands. Our room was still clean with a functioning 3/4 bath. On the plus side, It's privately owned and operated by the owner and his assistant. The owner stayed up till 10 for our late check in and even offered us drinks. We accepted and ended up chatting for about an hour. He also took breakfast orders to be prepared for the following morning. I appreciated the value that was placed on the customer and would recommend staying here.

This hotel is run by a friendly husband and wife team. I was met by a welcoming receptionist who explained my dining options. I had alternative evening dinner plans but opted for the cooked breakfast. Excellent service served by Becca who delivered a hot breakfast with all the trimings. The food, service and accomodation here would make this hotel my 1st option when I return to Loch Carron.

Our hosts Becca and Richard were just the best! Wish we could have stayed with them longer! They were both so warm and friendly and provided great service. They also own the pub next door- very warm and welcoming!

Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis war unterirdisch. Viel Geld für wenig Leistung. 75 £ für 2 Burger und 2 Frühstücke ist zu viel. Mängel in der Ausstattung kommen hinzu. Sehr kleines Bad, nur 1 Nachttischlampe, keine Handtuchhalter und mehr.

Thanks for the review Udo. Value for money is a very subjective thing. The vast majority of our guests enjoy their stay here and recognise the challenges of running a rural, seasonal business, accepting that this means paying more than you might in the city. Two burgers and two breakfasts would be 64 Udo, not 75. 17 is not excessive for a main course in a hotel and 15 for a full Scottish breakfast with coffee, juice and toast is excellent value for money in my opinion. I accept that our rooms are a little dated, which is why they are the cheapest in the area, which is probably why you chose them, right Udo?

This is your opinion, but not that of the last few reviewers we’ve had, who had different expectations and really enjoyed themselves here. It says everything about you that you booked the cheapest hotel in the area and you’re still not happy. I’m happy that you won’t be back!

Hotel is in need of updating however the couple who own it Rebecca and Richard are working on this. However although tired it was dpotlessly clean, the food was lovely and hospitality of the couple was 2nd to none, have stayed in many 5* and never been shown this level of friendliness by staff nothing was a bother for them. We booked because it was the only availability in the area but i would never normally go to 2/3* accomodation as i like my comforts and am very fussy however if i am in the area again i wouldnt hesitate and would recommend, true Highland Hospitality at its best.

Hi Dennis, thanks for your feedback. We are the cheapest hotel in the area, which is probably why you booked it. Not quite sure why you think it’s overpriced, would be nice to know what was missing from your stay. I’m guessing just another salty Expedia Booker who expected breakfast to be included in their room only booking.

This was the only hotel I could find in the area on the night I needed, it was very overpriced but nontheless I booked it due to limited alternative. The room standard is very poor, it's clean enough but really dated, the layout is poor, the standard of the fittings is very dated. There is a small bar and fortunately a good group of people also staying there made it a fun evening but otherwise it would not have been great.

This is a fair review and I think you summed it up well. The room is priced the cheapest in the area (albeit expensive) and you say yourself it was the only choice you had. Thank you for noting the cleanliness of the rooms, we pride ourselves on that. Yes the fittings are dated, but functional and clean. The hotel is 153 years old, so sorry for you that the layout doesn’t correspond to your 21st century expectations. If you’re planning on enjoying a holiday in the highlands then perhaps plan a little in advance and set your expectations accordingly?

Interesting that our main bar has been under refurbishment since November last year and you’re the first reviewer to mention it being an issue. It’s more likely that you were just upset that your booking was room only and you had to pay for breakfast. Maybe read the terms of your reservations when you make them? Looking at the cctv it seems you had a great time in the evening and thoroughly enjoyed yourself. Certainly didn’t look like you were having a 1 star time!!! Please don’t come back.
