For as old as it is, it was very nice and clean. Rooms were updated, but still had some age showing. We stayed in the bridal suite but didnt know the jet tub wasnt working completely until we checked in.

The area around the hotel is nice and walkable. Check-in was easy and the restaurant downstairs was great! The view from the rooftop bar is fantastic too.

The common areas of the hotel, lobby, hallways, even elevators were very nice, cozy, and interesting. The room itself was disappointing. It was VERY small, as was the bathroom - so small that two queen beds, as is basically standard in the US, wouldn't even fit, so two doubles were used instead. They were comfy, but everything was just way too small. The bathroom basically had no countertop. The room would be great for a single person with one bed, but that's it. Unfortunately, we won't be back, which is a bummer because the common areas are cool.

We apologize for the sizing within your room, and we understand the frustrations when amenities seem too small. When the hotel underwent renovations in the 1960s to add private plumbing for every single room, some sacrifices regarding space had to be made. One of the best hotel stays I’ve had. Wonderful staff. Thanks Patrick at front desk. Cool neighborhood and lovely city. Rapid City very cool.

This is a unique and interesting hotel. It has historic and kind of kitschy details, but the rooms and amenities are very nice for an older hotel. The walls are a bit thin, so you can hear adjacent noise in rooms. Parking is not very convenient, unless you pay for valet. Staff was very friendly. The hotel and nearby dining options are very good.

The rooms are very small. The guest rooms bathrooms needed to deep cleaned, especially the bathroom. If you really look you will see the baseboards dirty, black prints all over the door, tile needed a good cleaning. The shower curtain was not wide enough for the bathroom which led to water on the bath roomn floor. Very oddly small shower curtain. The Customer service at the front desk is very good! Especially the person checking me in. They have a nice rooftop with great drinks. Overall the property has a unique old time feel.

Everything at the Alex Johnson is wonderful. The hotel staff went out of their way to correct the problem that was created by my use of Expedia. I will never use Expedia again. Use the hotel’s website or call the property, I do not believe my outcome would have been the same at some other properties. The Alex Johnson went above and beyond to make me a happy guest.

Love the old atmosphere and the originality of the rooms. It is also haunted, so I would have loved to stay on the haunted floor just to see if I can get an experience.

Not recommended. Poor visit.
Beds were dirty, bed sheets had stains.Carpet needs to be shampoo. Room service did not change them.valet staff was friendly. Beds were suppose to be queen size. Beds were only double size. Check out staff was rude. Hard to comunicate with. Room over all size is smaller than advertised. Room was over priced also. Would not recommend staying here in the future. I am requesting a full refund.

Deadwood Great Service
Iron Horse Inn is a classic Deadwood Hotel...rustic, cowboy charm with excellent downtown location. Sheri at front desk is forever helpful and there is a great little breakfast spot, The Wooden Nickel.
