This place was TERRIBLE! The desk clerk was passed out on the lobby couch, the bed comforter had stains, there was dirt running down the walls, paint peeled off the bathroom vanity, and filthy light fixtures. However, the room was newly painted, evident by the painters tape still stuck to the ceiling and paint on the fridge.

This was our first stay here. The staff at check in was less than friendly or helpful. Nothing but negative things to say.Our room was clean and a nice size. The hotel was relaxing and quiet. So easy to walk to so many dining, drinking and shopping options. Beds were comfortable. We will be back for sure!

It is an historical site and the surrounding area is very interesting. An old historical mining town with a lot of history. The hotel was a super spot to stay and supposedly haunted. Well they were just as nice as the staff was.

PROS: Very easy check in and check out process. The parking was close by and so many places to shop, eat and drink within walking distance. All around perfect location and The room was clean. The main area has museum like display dating to the 1800s. CONS: The bed was EXTREMELY uncomfortable. I know the building is historic but you'd think they would update the beds periodically. The walls were so thin, you could hear other guests talking in the hallway and in their rooms. The security lock was broken. The room was tiny with a tiny bathroom and no full length mirror or vanity really. If the bed was better, i would definitely stay here again. So until or if they do something about that, i will have to book reservations somewhere else, unfortunately. But if you're passing by, definitely stop in to check it out. It's got a lot of history. And Placerville is a great place to visit!

Placervile is a historic town and will be relished by history buffs . We came here to visit family and participate in a golf tournament at Cold Springs Golf Course. We stayed 2 nights at the Cary House which is perfectly located in downtown Placerville and has numerous restaurants, pubs and wine shops. If you come for shopping you won't be disappointed. Love the Cary House and. and ALL it has to offer.

160 year old hotel, beautiful lobby. Rooms are comfortable. Hotel doesn’t allow smoking. But my room had an odor of cigarettes. The hotel is haunted. Maybe the smoke came from a spirit.

My family and I spent our weekend at Placerville and stayed at the Cary House, we had a wonderful time! The staff was friendly and our rooms were clean and comfortable. We enjoyed looking at all the historic artifacts they have at the hotel.

very old and unique, needs updating. hotel electrical can only support Heat in winter and AC in summer. Our 4th floor room was pretty warm and couldnt leave window open because of street noise.

I absolutely LOVED the area and the hotel was full of history and charm! It was great to walk out in the morning and head over to local coffee shops. The old-style elevator was awesome and the grand staircases were wonderful. The room was average, but large. The bed was super comfortable and everything was clean and working. I was located in a corner room that faced the main street, diagonally across from the bar. This is probably the worst room you could be in. The live music went right through the walls, the buildings made simple conversations outside the bar echo, and once it closed at 2am you have the drunks yelling. I didn't sleep the first or last night. Earplugs were useless. I had to plug headphones into my computer and put on music so just to drown out the noise. When I arrived for check-in no one was at the desk and there was a sign that they were assisting another matter and would be back shortly. The janitor ended up coming down, seeing me at the desk, and calling for help. The sign provided a phone number for immediate assistance but I assumed they would be right back.... This was the case most of the time.. a sign at the desk so I couldn't ask to switch rooms. So when in doubt, call the number because they won't be right back. Next time I am in the area, unfortunately, I will be finding a quieter place to stay.

If you want to feel like you are a part of history in old town Placerville this is the place to stay. Very clean and comfortable and a good price. Walk to all the stores bars etc. We had a great stay...would stay there again.

Blinds in the room were missing the cord to pull them up. One blind was stuck half way down and needed the window blocked with a sofa cushion for privacy. Bathtub was missing non-skid surface, somewhat dangerous. Coffee pot was missing from the coffee maker. When the Placerville bars close it's a little noisy around 1 - 2am. Some lights missing in parking area behind the building.

The hotel has 39 rooms andxwe were given the room across the hall from the 150 year old elevator, which passed by very frequently. The front desk was run by teenagers who disappeared in the evening the minute the last guest was checked in. There was no customer service. However the housekeeper was awesome. She helped us with several issues that we would normally expect the front desk to

It was like stepping back in time. The historical feeling of the building and surrounding area was fascinating. Expect an old building with dated fixtures and furnishings. This is not a Marriott or Hilton. Charming for being what it is. Will stay again.

The lobby is incredible with antique furnishings and stained glass windows. The room was styled in antique furniture and pictures. It’s lovely, however the floor was really slanted. The walls are thin so we heard people walking above us and people in the adjacent room showering. We were right next to the alley and heard commotion all night.
